I think our Vermont
Has been increasing recently. I have to wonder how much is related to weather as well. More indoorsy stuff.
I was trying to be hopeful but I think we’ll see a minor surge here as winter sets in. Along with the holidays.

Montana leads country in COVID cases per 100k

Montana! We are Number One! Leading the nation in positive Covid-19 cases!!! I guess that whole, "no one needs to wear a mask or get vaccinated" is working.

Michigan woman’s death caused by rare Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine side effect, autopsy report says

This is really very sad: We look at statistics and the rarity of severe side effects or death resulting from a vaccine but when you read about a person, their life and that in fact they did die as a result of the vaccine, it just makes one feel sad.

Yes, it is sad indeed. I wonder if the outcome could have been different if she had been given adequate information about potential complications and instructions to seek medical help early. She had a ton of underlying health concerns which should have been a red flag that she might need medical support after her vaccine. It's so sad because the complication that killed her is treatable.

According to the study below, there were no cases of CVST reported with thrombocytopenia following administration of 182 million mRNA severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov2) vaccines, which would be the Pfizer and Moderna types.

The Centers of Disease Control and the US Food and Drug Administration identified 6 cases of CVST associated with thrombocytopenia in US patients who had received the Ad26.COV2.S (Janssen) coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. Similar thromboembolic events were reported in Europe following ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (AstraZeneca) vaccination. Both the Ad26.COV2.S and ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccines contain adenoviral vectors.

NIH Admits to Funding Gain-of-Function Research in Wuhan, Says EcoHealth Violated Reporting Requirements

A top NIH official admitted in a Wednesday letter that U.S. taxpayers funded gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses in Wuhan and revealed that EcoHealth Alliance, the U.S. non-profit that funneled NIH money to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, was not transparent about the work it was doing.

In the letter to Representative James Comer (R., Ky.), Lawrence A. Tabak of the NIH cites a “limited experiment” that was conducted to test if “spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.” The laboratory mice infected with the modified bat virus “became sicker” than those infected with the unmodified bat virus.

Dr. Richard Ebright, biosafety expert and professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Rutgers University, had previously rebutted Fauci’s claim that the NIH “has not ever and does not now fund gain of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology [WIV]” as “demonstrably false.”

Ebright told National Review that the NIH-financed work at the WIV “epitomizes” the definition of gain-of-function research, which deals with “enhanced potential pandemic pathogen (PPP)” or those pathogens “resulting from the enhancement of the transmissibility and/or virulence of a pathogen.”

Melbourne came out of lockdown this morning. They are ecstatic.
Over 2020/2021 they have spent a total of 263 days in lockdown.

I guess we are about to let it rip, in Australia. Our vax rates are getting really good (but are uneven, around the country).

As a country, we are 71% fully vaccinated (86% at least one dose).

Each state will open up as each state reaches 80% fully vaxxed. That will likely be December for my state.

International flights are going to resume in about 10 days time, for fully vaxxed Aussies. And as long as we test negative on our return, we won't have to quarantine.
This will apply unevenly around the country, until each state reaches its 80% fully vaxxed rate.

Hope our hospitals are ready as they can be!

It's sad but thousands of people die each day from covid. Just yesterday over 3,000 of people in the US died from covid. Pretty much every medication has complications.

Aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc. even over-the-counter meds have side effects that result in fatalities.

Our local pharmacy is taking names of individuals who will qualify for the 3rd Moderna vaccine. I'm disappointed that the 3rd Moderna dose will be a half dose.
Wonder why some are getting the full dose in other states?

I don't understand what you mean- I don't think it is different from state to state- The two doses of Moderna were 3 times stronger than Pfizer so I can understand why the booster will be a half dose- As far as I know the standard will be to give half a dose of Moderna across the United States - Have you heard differently?

I know people in GA and SC that got a Moderna booster three weeks ago and it was a full dose.

Booster Shots and Third Doses for COVID-19 Vaccines: What You Need to Know

What is a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine?
A third dose of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) is identical to the first two doses. It can help protect people with weakened immune systems who did not have a strong enough response to the first two doses of one of the mRNA vaccines. Such people can get a third dose as soon as 28 days after a second dose. The FDA has authorized, and the CDC recommends, that those with certain medical conditions that suppress the immune system get a third dose of the same brand of COVID-19 vaccine that they initially received.

I am confused because I thought the FDA authorized the
half dose for Moderna booster-- I will have to do more research

The full dose of Moderna is already authorized for immunocompromised. So people who are getting a full dose are getting it under that authorization.

I got a full dose as well, under the authorization for immunocompromised.
This new authorization for a half dose is for those who are not immunocompromised.

That is what I thought.
