Covid hospitalization hot spots across the U.S., in five charts (nbcnews.com)

Covid-19 hospitalizations are once again ticking upward after a lull in October and early November, with tens of thousands more Americans filling hospital beds across the country in the past four weeks.

The increase is particularly noticeable in the Rust Belt and the Southwest. As of Wednesday, Michigan's population-adjusted rate is highest in the nation, followed by Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

States along the East Coast, from Massachusetts to North Carolina, are seeing the greatest percentage increase in hospitalizations in the past two weeks. More than 600 people are hospitalized with Covid in Connecticut as of Wednesday; that's up from 374 people two weeks ago, an 82 percent increase and highest in the nation.

Track the hardest-hit states with this NBC News analysis of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Covid hospitalizations data. This article will be updated daily...
Not a big surprise, IMO: Two weeks after Thanksgiving.

One of our fast food places just posted that they opened their indoor playground after it being closed for 2 years. Just in time for omicron! You should read the comments from some of the parents... If any parents express any type of concern somebody else tells them to stay home it's ridiculous.. who in their right mind would take their children to an indoor playground that's enclosed in a fast food place with covid running rampant like it is? The same fast food place did away with masks none of their employees wear masks.. it's a Chick-fil-A by the way, so not surprising....

That is ironic. Last year my friend mentioned the "Circus Tents" that Chick-fil-a set up in their parking lots to provide shade when dining room was closed. The tents remained (along with the closed dining rooms) long after they were allowed to reopen. We started using the phrase "Circus Tent" to refer to any person or business that wasn't concerned with Covid, but used it as an excuse to provide shoddy service or get out of performing unpleasant tasks. We based this on the idea that fast food places kept their dining rooms closed purely for financial reasons. Interesting to see that confirmed on the flip side, by the same vendor!

End of moratoriums means the return of the 10-minute eviction

McCloskey speaks with an evictee as he and Constable Chris Mueller, left, secure an apartment in Glendale.

PHOENIX - The city's last eviction moratorium of the pandemic had expired and the rent forgiveness program was running out of money, so Lennie McCloskey changed into his bulletproof vest and headed out to work.

He climbed into his truck and counted through his daily stack of eviction orders. "Fifteen, sixteen - jeez Louise," he said as he stacked them on the passenger seat. He strapped an extra magazine of ammunition to his belt and picked up his radio to call dispatch.

"Constable 33, heading out," he said. "Looks like a busy day."

"Okay," the dispatcher said. "Guess it's back to business as usual."

Nobody in Phoenix was better or more practiced at the business of eviction than Lennie, who had personally removed more than 20,000 Arizonans from their homes during the past two decades as the area's longest-serving elected constable.

"Lock-'em-out Lennie," colleagues occasionally called him, because the 65-year-old former judo champion was capable of coaxing tenants out of their homes with subtle intimidation or with grandfatherly kindness. He arrived at each apartment with treats to pacify dogs and stickers to give children.

The tenants he ushered outside each day into their first moments of homelessness were often inconsolable, or defiant, or suicidal, or mentally ill, or violent and aggressive, but Lennie was calm. "You have to take your own emotions out of it," he'd told colleagues during one national training. "It's our job to carry out the court order."

Tenants were more resistant to leaving their homes after months of government assistance. And Lennie could feel his own behavior shifting, too, in ways he was still trying to understand. "It's not like I've gone soft, but maybe a little bit more lenient," he said. "More compassionate or understanding."

He waited at the entryway for a few more seconds, took out his baton, and started banging on the door.

"Hello!" he shouted. "Maricopa County peace officer! Open up now!"

All Chick-fil-A playgrounds are closed out of an abundance of caution. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

I-Team: 93-Year-Old Veteran Denied Treatment For COVID-19 As State Prioritizes Unvaccinated
more at link
. A woman who lives north of Boston and did not want to be identified said her father, a vaccinated, 93-year-old veteran struggling with COVID, was told he could not get the potentially life-saving treatment. “I got a call from his doctor saying he had been denied for monoclonal antibodies and they were going to prioritize the unvaccinated. I was heartbroken,” she said.

The I-Team has learned that hospitals are not able to meet the increased demand for treatment, not because of an issue with supply, but a shortage of staff and space to administer the treatments. According to state-issued guidelines, providers are advised to prioritize the unvaccinated and the immunocompromised

One of the few things Florida is doing right is creating centers for monoclonal antibody treatment run by county health departments. They are walk in, and the treatment is given by injection. No triage or special treatment by patient category. It is too bad that the 93-year old is probably too sick to travel, otherwise he could be treated here in Florida. I grew up north of Boston, so it is especially sad to read about this case.

That is an outrage-- this 93_year old man does what everyone should
do, but he cant get treated while someone who didnt get the vaccine
gets treatment via priority? what the he-- is that???

Triage. A 93 year old, even vaccinated, has less future value to society than a young person. And, is less likely to survive Covid, even vaccinated than a younger person.

We don't know the "rest of the story" either....all we know is " 93 year old veteran, vaccinated, with Covid". Did he have other co morbidities? COPD? Heart disease? Obesity? Cancer?

And, he is home, doing fine according to the article. So, fortunately he had a mild case.

One would think that a 93 year old would be considered immunocompromised .... that age factors alone would compromise his immune system.

I guess not.

'90 Day Fiancé' star Jason Hitch dead at 45 — Fox News

90 Day Fiancé" alum Jason Hitch has died. He was 45.

The reality star's death was confirmed to Fox News Digital by his sister Shannon.

Shannon said her reality star brother died of coronavirus complications in a Florida ICU on Tuesday night. She was able to be with him as his life drew to a close, as was his father.

Shannon added that while her brother had no preexisting conditions they were aware of, he was not vaccinated against the deadly virus to the best of their knowledge.

Just by age alone, he is a high risk, whether vaccinated or not. Not providing him antibody therapy is nuts. I hope Pfizer pill is approved soon. But the pill was tested on un-vaccinated. Is it going to be approved for the vaccinated?

Covid UK: Britons CANCEL pre-Christmas plans as public heeds Whitty's Omicron warning | Daily Mail Online

Fears that Britain has been pushed into a 'lockdown by stealth' are mounting as 'scare stories' about Omicron trigger a wave of pub and restaurant cancellations ahead of Christmas and England's chief medical officer told people to scale back their festive plans.

Millions of people are entering a 'self-imposed lockdown' in a bid to avoid having to isolate on December 25 if they test positive for Covid.

Almost every one of the 90 restaurants in London's West End have suffered cancellations in the past week, while one pub manager in Covent Garden added that every single booking for a Christmas party in their private room disappeared last week.

A string of shows in the West End have been cancelled as Omicron becomes the dominant strain in the capital, including Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre, Hex at the National Theatre, and The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time at the Troubadour Theatre Wembley.

At last night's Downing Street press conference, England's chief medical officer Chris Whitty and Prime Minister Boris Johnson stoked fears further by encouraging people to scale back their Christmas plans.

Last week we were taking an Uber from near Santa Monica, Calif. to LAX. The driver said he had just come from Santa Monica where he was supposed to pick up a rider. But she wasn’t willing to wear a mask. When he told her “No mask, no ride…Uber rules,” she started screaming at him that she was going to call Uber and report him! He left her there, called his supervisor to report what happened and picked us up instead, dutifully wearing our masks. I wonder how she got to where she wanted to go. :D

The Queen calls off Christmas lunch for fifty family members to Windsor amid soaring Omicron cases | Daily Mail Online

The Queen has cancelled her annual Royal Family Christmas lunch on Tuesday 'with regret' as a 'precaution' to try to save her loved ones festive plans, amid fears over the Omicron Covid variant.

The 95-year-old monarch was planning to welcome 50 or so relatives, including Prince Charles and Camilla, to an event at Windsor Castle next week.

One day after the festive party, the Queen was due to travel by helicopter to Sandringham in Norfolk, where she is set to spend Christmas itself.

However it has now emerged the Queen 'with regret' has cancelled her family lunch as a 'precautionary' measure, feeling that too many people's Christmas arrangements were at risk if it went ahead.

Royal sources said 'there is a belief that it is the right thing to do for all concerned.'

It marks the second year the Queen has cancelled the event, usually held at Buckingham Palace.

Last year she called off the lunch when tougher restrictions were brought in amid the surge of the Delta Covid strain.

It comes as millions of Britons axed their festive plans so they can see family on Christmas Day after Boris Johnson and Chris Whitty triggered a 'tsunamis of cancellations' for pubs and restaurants by urging the country only to socialise if necessary - and not in large groups or with strangers.

Greetings: I have quite a dilemma here in Florida, where sad to say, a good deal of the population has not evolved. I need to get my hair done ASAP- it is a mess--- trying to find a vaxxed and masked hair dresser may be impossible. I went on line and several messages from several salons say this " please do not ask the status of our stylist's vaccine status- that is private- it is a personal choice"- blah blah blah. PERSONAL CHOICE????? Are you kidding me? They really don't get it. I have spoken to two stylists who don't believe in vaccines or masking. If I had normal hair I could do it myself, but I don't. My hair is fine and thin-- You would never know it because with a good cut, hair dye and a product called "Caboki" which fills in thin spots, my hair looks good. But I need a stylist- cannot do this myself.

I made an appt with a stylist-- for Sat. when I called the salon and asked if the stylists were vaxxed she paused for a long time and then said "yes"--- not so sure but I will go there. Do I risk it with an unvaxxed stylist if we both are masked?

My wonderful hairdresser who I had for 10 years down here picked a lousy time to leave the business!!!!

What a mess- I feel I better get this done right away - because very soon Omicron is going to become a real issue everywhere in this country--- Delta is bad enough.

Are you in Central FL, by chance? We have a local FB group that shares which businesses are mask/vaccine/socially distant observant. I can either share that group's info with you or there may be a similar group in your area that you can find. Hope this helps!
