I really don't get what is happening here in my little suburb of Va Beach- but the town's school board has just voted to make masks, tesing and vaccines optional for all students. This is unreal.

"After winter break, students in Chesapeake Public Schools only have to wear a mask in class, if they want to.

The school board voted to make masking optional at its Monday meeting. This only applies to students, not employees. They are required under a separate state rule to wear masks.

“We are not going to take away the masking, the testing, it’s going to be optional,” said board member Christie New Craig."

Are you in Central FL, by chance? We have a local FB group that shares which businesses are mask/vaccine/socially distant observant. I can either share that group's info with you or there may be a similar group in your area that you can find. Hope this helps!

Hi---I am in Fort Myers---how would I find such a group on Facebook
for this. area??? That is so awesome that people have done this!!!

What the heck? Appears Christie New Craig is anti-mask and leading the charge to unmask students after they have been mingling during the holidays? Geez. That’s not a smart move and violates the state law?

“The optional mask move violates the Virginia Department of Health Commissioner’s public health order, which requires all K-12 students to mask up unless the CDC changes its guidelines.”

Hmmm.

Yikes. Kind of a bad time to be dropping precautions. Sigh

Covid UK: Britons CANCEL pre-Christmas plans as public heeds Whitty's Omicron warning | Daily Mail Online

Fears that Britain has been pushed into a 'lockdown by stealth' are mounting as 'scare stories' about Omicron trigger a wave of pub and restaurant cancellations ahead of Christmas and England's chief medical officer told people to scale back their festive plans.

Millions of people are entering a 'self-imposed lockdown' in a bid to avoid having to isolate on December 25 if they test positive for Covid.

Almost every one of the 90 restaurants in London's West End have suffered cancellations in the past week, while one pub manager in Covent Garden added that every single booking for a Christmas party in their private room disappeared last week.

A string of shows in the West End have been cancelled as Omicron becomes the dominant strain in the capital, including Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre, Hex at the National Theatre, and The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time at the Troubadour Theatre Wembley.

At last night's Downing Street press conference, England's chief medical officer Chris Whitty and Prime Minister Boris Johnson stoked fears further by encouraging people to scale back their Christmas plans.
I can't bring myself to 'like' anything quoted from the DM. Just noting how they accuse the CMO and PM of 'stoking fears', oh man, read your own stories DM!

I go to to that site and peruse the articles, but it reminds me of the Enquirer

I feel helpless and angry-- this evil virus keeps. mutating-it is unreal-- then you
have people not taking it seriously, not doing their part to help us all be rid of the
evil virus-- I thought when we got the initial two shots we were on our way out
of this--so now there are more deaths this year than last and we need a third shot
which may or may not work against Omicron, or the next mutation that
is certain to come along. Was reading an article about Japan where the citizens
have cooperated to act in a manner to minimize illness and death---we could only wish for that kind of mind-set

Covid Protocols — Studio 41 Salon

@ilovewings

Your plight had me searching the Internet for Covid-safe salons in Ft Myers.

As you said, it's Florida. The rules are strict here in NYC but are largely ignored. In Florida, the rules are already so lax. Most of the Google responses I found to my query about Covid safe salons in Ft Myers returned with answers that their staff wears masks, but that they will not answer about vaccination status.

The above is the only one I found that claims all its staff is fully vaccinated. It's in Naples, which I know is neighbors to Ft. Myers.

Obviously this is just a Google search. I don't know the place, don't know if their website is accurate, don't know if they do a good job, and I've been to Naples and I remember everything being pricey. But its worth a call, IMO.

Here in NYC I go to a Chinese-owned salon. I have found that my salon is super-cautious. They wore masks when Covid started as that was already customary in Asian culture prior to Covid, and the staff is all vaxed. If there's a Chinese community in Ft. Myers, maybe they have similar protocols because there is a cultural appreciation for mask-wearing and hopefully vaccinations.

Good luck! Our hair is important!!!!!!!

Greetings: I have quite a dilemma here in Florida, where sad to say, a good deal of the population has not evolved. I need to get my hair done ASAP- it is a mess--- trying to find a vaxxed and masked hair dresser may be impossible. I went on line and several messages from several salons say this " please do not ask the status of our stylist's vaccine status- that is private- it is a personal choice"- blah blah blah. PERSONAL CHOICE????? Are you kidding me? They really don't get it. I have spoken to two stylists who don't believe in vaccines or masking. If I had normal hair I could do it myself, but I don't. My hair is fine and thin-- You would never know it because with a good cut, hair dye and a product called "Caboki" which fills in thin spots, my hair looks good. But I need a stylist- cannot do this myself.

I made an appt with a stylist-- for Sat. when I called the salon and asked if the stylists were vaxxed she paused for a long time and then said "yes"--- not so sure but I will go there. Do I risk it with an unvaxxed stylist if we both are masked?

My wonderful hairdresser who I had for 10 years down here picked a lousy time to leave the business!!!!

What a mess- I feel I better get this done right away - because very soon Omicron is going to become a real issue everywhere in this country--- Delta is bad enough.

I don't know if there are vaccinated stylists around here or not. I've been cutting (more like trimming) my short wavy hair for the past two years. I don't always do a very good job of it but I don't care--I'm elderly, no one pays attention to what I look like! DH doesn't even notice when I cut it. Cutting the back is the hardest part.

Il Divo star Carlos Marín is suffering from Covid, Spanish TV reports | Daily Mail Online

Il Divo star Carlos Marín is suffering from Covid, Spanish TV reports, after singer is put in an 'induced coma' in a hospital in Manchester forcing band to cancel UK tour.

Spain's TVE programme Corazon Corazon reported the 53-year-old singer, who has had the vaccine, fell ill with Covid on December 7 and has been in hospital for a week, citing Marin's agent.

Yesterday the singer wasn't answering his messages and he's now in intensive care and intubated.

Thank you much--yeah, here in Florida no concerns at all -I saw one salon
that says they sanitize but wont reveal vaccine status!!!

I've had crazy hair here for the best part of the last 18 months, other than seizing the odd moment during relative lulls.

@ilovewings I dont believe salons would divulge vaccine status over here either. That would be considered sharing private medical records.
