4:30 EST. *Shudder* I read the site directions and it made it sound like it was directed at the person taking the test. So maybe I can stick it up my own nose? I guess we'll find out. The website says 1-2 days. But I have a feeling things are backed up everywhere. The option to do at home tests was taken offline till after January 2nd to keep from a greater backlog.

Just as a note to others you can apparently order PCR tests from off labcorp or quest labs. You can have tests mailed to you or picked up at a pharmacy and mailed back to the lab. I guess it's the same processing as the drive through tests. But I had not realized the option to get a PCR test and not even leave your home was ever an option.
My son had his mailed to him and he mailed it back. Labcorp did the test and sent him the results.

That's just nuts.

My thoughts are assume you have covid, and don't go to get tested unless you're experiencing severe symptoms.

When our son was diagnosed as positive (unvaccinated) and my husband and I (jabbed and boosted) started experiencing cold-like symptoms, we didn't get tested, but we followed quarantine recommendations.

We didn't want to risk spreading the virus to others just to satisfy our curiosity of whether or not we were infected.

Everyone wants to know if they have a cold, the flu, or covid. Just assume you have covid and act accordingly. Stay home. When you've fulfilled quarantine measure, wear a mask if you have to shop.

JMOO

I personally have a number of rare illnesses already. My sons are positive right now on home tests. I chose to go get a PCR test because I want it documented if I have it. I don't want to be denied future treatment as others have been dealing with without a confirmed case. This seems like it's going to be a really overwhelming problem. But I was not personally willing to risk future issues.

I didn't want to expose anyone OR be exposed to anyone if I didn't have it. So I got a drive through test at a pharmacy. No open windows ever. I tested myself in my car and put the test in a slot basically.

I follow her on twitter- she is advising to prepare now for shortages, store closings, office closings, in the next 6-8 weeks. Get your supplies in!

To all the people who harassed me overnight & said I was peddling “fear 🤬🤬🤬🤬” when I said in Jan we’ll call 911 & no one will come or we’ll be unable even to enter an ER, this is a #DC suburb, now. Ambulances waiting 8 HOURS to be able to drop a patient at ER. #STAYHOME

Listen to me. EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE AFFECTED BY #OMICRON. From modes of transportation to places you shop to places you get medical care to places you worship to places you learn. The public is not ready. Every single thing is going to be affected. Everything. Get ready.

I follow her on twitter too! I am trying to foresee what we need but am honestly having a hard time even getting things in my online walmart cart. So many things are out of stock. But we are generally pretty good as a rule here. I've even got fresh greens in the garden right now.

I am actually trying to hurry up and get my garden seed orders done before any potential serious delays in companies delivering or the post office having issues etc. It sounds kind of crazy. But the last two years have been nuts and I never regret buying ahead.

By the second day, my son said his lungs hurt. The PCR test that said he was positive doesn't say whether he had delta or omicron. He was going to try to reach the lab who did the results to see which one it is, but that could take a while and he might never find out anyway.

You said:

"My son said today he was a bit better"

I am assuming that his lungs didn't worsen and he is seeing continuing improvement. This is good news. Would be helpful for him to know which he has,
delta or omicron.

Keep us posted on how everyone is doing.

I know it's anecdotal as I'm only a case of one, but I had chest x-rays on day 1, day 5 and day 9. None showed lung involvement. And I never developed a cough, either.

Very good news for you. Glad to hear that.

So an estimate for the country of ~700,000 new cases today is probably in the ballpark, I would think. I see FL has just blown past NY and taken the #1 spot. No surprise there. jmo

Florida's case count includes difficulties accessing testing and a reluctance by the state government to facilitate mass testing, as noted earlier today in this thread. JMO.

I'll post as soon as I know how they're all doing. I hope he can find out whether he has delta or omicron.

Happy New Year everyone. Please stay safe.

2021 took it's last (hopefully) parting shot today. Betty White passed away. It's not okay. RIP Betty.

Happy New Year to all my fellow Websleuthers. I'm in shock that my dogs are currently sleeping through the fireworks. May everyone have a peaceful and healthy start to 2022. Thanks for everyone's sane contributions to this thread, and please, stay well.

Thank you for sharing this us. My thoughts are with you and your family, wishing you the best. I hope you will continue to keep us informed. Knowledge is power.
My son received his PCR test results today. It's positive. Unfortunately, it doesn't say whethers it's delta or omicron. He did say his lungs hurt. He's going to try to find out from the lab. Who knows, though, whether or not he will be able to. My daughter-in-law's results haven't returned, but they're sure hers will be positive as well. He said he was feeling a bit better today so that's good. I'll keep the board updated on their progress.

@Knitty - sounds a lot like here. There is the NYE "party" going on downstairs at this moment, I went and peeked in (in my N95 mask) ...singer belting out songs, lots of people sitting close at 2 long cramped tables...food and drink ...not a single mask.
As I sat at the front desk talking to one of the employees, she got a "note" from a resident (delivered by a caregiver) asking for dinner delivery tonight and on the note written in big letters "I"M SICK!"
egads....
My 89 y.o. mother and 90 y.o. father still have not gotten thier boosters yet! And they have not gotten one for my disabled sister that lives with them either. They are well past the window, I just do not understand the hold up. My dad can not stay out of the stores either, he loves to shop esp for groceries. It is very stressful for me.
This must be very stressful indeed. Sometimes I think that some people are suffering from a severe case of pandemic fatigue. I hate to see them let their guard down at this point. I hope they'll make the decision to get their booster soon.
