I just put all my info (using the symptoms I had last week) into the Walgreen's app for a PCR test. Next available appointment is Wednesday at 3 pm. That's cutting it extremely close - 5 days of symptoms - if you want antivirals or mabs.

How is early treatment supposed to work if you can't even get a test until you're on 5 days of symptoms and your PCR will not be back from the lab for who knows how many days???
This makes me wonder how my son got his PCR results back so soon. My daughter-in-law, however, hasn't received hers as of today. I do not know if the others who tested have received their results yet, either. Good luck to you.

I tested positive a number of days ago. Getting better rapidly.

Some people need to work as quickly as they feel able to do so if they don’t have Covid. Quarantine rules are very different if you have Covid vs if it’s a cold. I don’t begrudge someone needing to know if they have Covid from a work standpoint… many simply cannot afford to quarantine for 10 days for every cold.

Ah. Yes. My specific comment was only regarding the one poster whom I quoted that was talking about a family member testing positive but then said rapid tests were only 50/50. I was thinking…. Yeah, no… if they got a positive result, it’s definitely more than 50/50 that it’s a true positive. I wasn’t commenting on anything except that one particular poster’s comment.
My mistake and I had gotten the 50/50 from somewhere else. I'm truly sorry.

Woo hoo for fulfilled Costco orders!! I was able to get every single thing at Costco today that we needed for work but hadn’t been able to get from our usual vendors this week. Disinfectant wipes, spray, briefs, etc etc etc. I’m sure I looked like one of those hoarders but I don’t even care. I was shopping for 90+ frail elderly patients and just so thrilled everything was well stocked with almost no purchase limits.
Congrats! I wouldn't care if people looked at me strange either! Bless you and thank you for what you do!!

Omicron has passed peak in South Africa, causing relatively few deaths and hospitalizations, authorities say

South Africa appears to have passed the peak of its omicron variant-driven fourth coronavirus wave, the country's cabinet announced Thursday, adding that there was only a "marginal increase" in fatalities, which remained low compared to previous spikes.

The number of infections fell by roughly 30% to just under 90,000 for the week ending Dec. 25, down from some 127,000 in the prior corresponding period, government data show. The number of hospital admissions has also been significantly lower over the past 1½ weeks.
This is very good news IMO.

I follow her on twitter too! I am trying to foresee what we need but am honestly having a hard time even getting things in my online walmart cart. So many things are out of stock. But we are generally pretty good as a rule here. I've even got fresh greens in the garden right now.

I am actually trying to hurry up and get my garden seed orders done before any potential serious delays in companies delivering or the post office having issues etc. It sounds kind of crazy. But the last two years have been nuts and I never regret buying ahead.
Thanks for mentioning seeds! I received my Baker Creek seed catalog about two weeks ago and have yet to look at it. It's always such a beautiful catalog and I enjoy reading through it during the winter while dreaming of my summer garden. :)

You said:

"My son said today he was a bit better"

I am assuming that his lungs didn't worsen and he is seeing continuing improvement. This is good news. Would be helpful for him to know which he has,
delta or omicron.

Keep us posted on how everyone is doing.
I forgot to add this. His lungs are better. He is a person who has never had any kind of lung disease and has never smoked. It's baffling how this affects everyone differently.

Happy New Year to you. I feel like we are in that movie, "Groundhog Day", and in some loop, nothing changes. Crazy times we live in now.

I never thought that we would be moving into 2022 with the shadow of Covid still looming over us. However, I'm thankful for all of us who have embraced each other, the evolving science, our healthcare and frontline workers, and our fellow humans. May 2022 bring us more answers and better tools to fight Sars-coV-2, Long Covid, and other diseases that cause so much suffering worldwide.

12:23 am January 1, 2022 now in NYC.

I stayed home and watched the Times Square ball drop on TV. As I knew would happen, so many people were without masks despite the mandate. It doesn't matter that it was scaled back to 15,000 people if those people spread Covid. The way Omicron is going, each of those people can pass it on to many others and this will never end. I wish my stupid now ex-mayor would have canceled it.

With that said, and a heart that wants to be merry on New Year's but isn't, I again wish all a Happy New Year. There are posters here from all over America and the world, so whatever time it is for you right now, a better new year.

Good health to all those here who are ill or who have loved ones that are ill.
