I had been keeping a journal since the start of the pandemic. My writings became sparse once we had the vaccine. I guess it's time to get writing again :(

Yes, hold on to that. We keep hearing the same from many health professionals and they constantly quote numbers that show overwhelmingly the sickest in the hospital aren't vaccinated. You hang in there and take good care of yourself.
Thanks. You take good care of yourself, too.

Here in Florida hardly anybody is masked-- when you go anywhere
you begin to ask ---: is there really a pandemic?
Same here in SC.

This was the meme that left me laughing today.

Haha, laughing is good for us. I made sauteed mushrooms and garlic today. Vitamin D! Do all little things that are good for us.

I worked through 2020. I think I was definitely exposed, but it was early on when testing was severely limited (deja vu).

I had to have been exposed a million times to this day. I'm in retail and travel to a bunch of stores, all of them sell groceries. JMO

I was just going to write this to you.

As frustrating and frightening as it is that your son and his wife got Covid after being triple-vaxed, try to find some respite in thinking about how true this is.

I understand they are both sick enough to be bed-ridden, which is awful. But thank God, they are at home. He is able to communicate with you via telephone. He isn’t in the ICU with a ventilator, unable to breathe enough to converse with you, unconscious.

It is probable that the vaccines saved the life of your son and daughter-in-law, and this will be a story they tell in the future.

You’re NOT going to be the mom who says goodbye on an IPad.

Thank God.
This brought me to tears. I feel helpless not being able to help them, but you are right, it could be worse, a lot worse. I'll hang onto your thoughts and my son's as well.

Thank you. God Bless.

I was in Florida for work and just flew home today. The only place I saw everyone wearing masks was in the Tampa airport.

In some of the convenience stores I visited and restaurants where I got take out food the employees were wearing masks but virtually no customers were. I wore my N-95 everywhere.

I had to go to the post office today, and picked a time that I hoped very few people would be there. When I got there, there were only two cars in the parking lot, so I was pleased. When I went inside, there was no one in the main post office section, two people in the other section checking their rented mailboxes. But when I got to the counter, I saw that the post office employee had his mask below his nose. He pushed it up once, and it fell below his nose within a few seconds and he left it there while serving me. Oh well, the best of plans...

What a day. It would seems that SARS has taken matters into its own hands and is going to give the world herd immunity whether we like it or not. And pretty darn quickly at this rate, imo.

Omicron Variant Might Help Defend Against Delta, Lab Study Suggests
In the lab, antibodies produced during an Omicron infection protected against Delta. If Omicron dominates in the real world, that could lead to a less dire future.
Omicron Variant Might Help Defend Against Delta, Lab Study Suggests

This is interesting, and I wonder what this will mean if delta remains the dominant variant if omicron burns itself out. Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former director of the FDA, said last week that he thinks that delta might be the residual variant when we get to the endemic stage. (The interview with Dr. Gottlieb was posted a few days ago on this thread.) If delta does become the residual variant, I wonder if people who have antibodies against omicron will be protected against delta, and for how long. Lots still to learn over the next few months.

Meanwhile, my charming city does this:

Folly Beach businesses ‘excited’ for flip flop drop’s in person return

FOLLY BEACH (WCSC) – Business owners on Folly Beach say they are excited to welcome back a New Year’s tradition for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The city’s flip flop drop will be held on New Year’s Eve along Center Street.

“We’re very excited to have that happen again,” Rita’s Seaside Grill Manager Tayler McBarron said.

Charlotte Goodwin, the brainchild of the event and the mayor’s wife, said the event has helped make Dec. 31 the busiest night the local businesses will have throughout the year.

Coworker has 4 people in household. The two unvaccinated are in the hospital. One in induced coma on vent. The two vaccinated are home quarantining. He did get sick but recovered pretty quickly. He had one J&J Vax last spring.

I am sorry to hear that they are sick. So many people are sick. I wonder how sick parents are able to care for their children. It must be very difficult. I hope your people have a speedy recovery.
They don't have any children right now. I don't know how they'd manage if they did, but they'd find a way I'm sure. They don't have an electric blanket so they're sleeping with their dog for the extra body heat. :)

Love, love, love Folly Beach but I would not be tempted to attend the flip flop drop this year.

You could send one and any other supplies they might need by Amazon! or Macy's.

It currently feels like just about everyone around here has/just had/will have by January covid. Just saying. Tests are hard to come by. I don’t even want to know about lack of treatment available. I’m currently hoping it burns thru reallly quick and we’ll be plateau or dropping by end of January. I’ve really not been keeping up the past few days so also hoping I’ve missed some good news Somewhere.

eta I can’t believe we’re even at this point. Again.
