I think you're wise Anneg. I totally agree with what Tiff and Pirate have said about moving on (and we have just booked two England based holidays for early next year). But restaurants, no. I think with Omicron if anyone in a restaurant has it, be it staff or customers, chances are you'll get it. Its breathing the same air that circulates which bothers me.

Last night my son and DIL spent 2 hours in the plane on the ground because the de-icing equipment was not working. All I could think about was that if one person on that flight was positive everyone on the plane would end up infected. I felt so bad for them just sitting there, I'm sure some masks were pulled down during those two hours before they let them deplane and go back into the airport. Flight ended up being delayed 4 hours and they missed their connection. Losts of travel nightmares going on right now.

In an emergency situation such as empty grocery shelves and no employees to stock, I would think all of our normal regulations/liability would temporarily slide. I for one hope we all have neighbors like you that are willing and able to serve if needed.

I obsessively straighten Walmart shelves when I get my mom's groceries as it is. Lol.

All those people going to the ER and being hospitalized around the country,
I am going to take a wild and crazy guess that they are infected
with Omicron-- and since this variant is so highly transmissible, and
the incubation period is much shorter, I will take another wild and crazy guess that most of these sick people were partying down for Xmas--- lots of gatherings,
parties and traveling----and many of them are most likely not vaccinated.
I should add that some of those people were no doubt exposed to
those party folks and are just unlucky.

Someone on Nextdoor recently asked if anyone had 20 covid rapid tests they could buy. Let me guess. You and 19 other people were planning to get together and party and it only recently occurred to you that you should test. AND you can't find any tests. 20 extra covid tests laying around. LOL!!

I have two teen sons that started quarantining Tuesday in our house after one suddenly came home from work feeling sick. They tested positive today. Well one did. I'm sure the other is. He lost his sense of smell as well. The week before Christmas I stocked the basement apartment and bought what they needed to quarantine so as soon as someone got sick we were able to immediately quarantine.

I'm not sure if it worked. No one else has symptoms except for me. I have had an intense headache since Monday that wakes me up every night. I have a drive through PCR test set up for tomorrow. I'm getting a little sniffly tonight and have a swollen lymph gland in my throat. (Overshare? lol)

On that same note, my niece also tested positive for covid this morning in a neighboring state. Sadly she and my mil exposed my husband's 97 yo grandmother the night before. I'm pretty unhappy as they both had symptoms that day and mil didn't not quarantine. And niece brushed it off as well and got together and watched a movie with the 97 yo.

For 2 years now her children have been protecting her throughout this pandemic. And now she's been exposed. :( She is however fully vaccinated and boosted. I'm pretty worried for her.

Do they still scrape your brain for the PCR tests? I can handle a lot of things. But my last PCR test was horrible and I'm dreading it.

MOO - With numbers skyrocketing and some of the predictions I've read about our immediate future, I've ordered refills and delivery for all prescriptions, ordered groceries to last a couple of weeks, xtra dog food (priorities lol), car is filled with gas and taken out a little cash just in case. Definately not a hoarding order, just thinking immediate time frame . If things go better than predicted, cool I'm caught up on all errands and can kick my feet up, start on the stack of books I got for Christmas and my little dog will be fat and happy (me too). MOO

I need to do the same. I think the dire predictions sound likely. My problem is I have lots of dried and canned food stored. It's the fresh produce and dairy products I buy the most of right now.

I'm trying to figure out what to stock up on right now. I don't have a ton of freezer space left and lots of our meds insurance won't give more than 30 days worth.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow: what time is your PCR test? I have dreaded thinking about getting that PCR test- ewwwwww- it sounds awful---- but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! How long does it take to get the results back? Hope your husband's grandmother does not get the nasty evil virus.

I don't think that they swab as far up the nose for the PCR tests anymore, but I'm not 100% sure.

Jeff Lewis Reveals His Daughter Was Rejected by Private School as He Faces Backlash from 'Superspreader' Event — People

“This comes on the heels of a revelation this past Monday that Lewis, his staff and some of his famous friends contracted COVID at a "superspreader" holiday party he hosted.

Lewis is still recovering from the breakthrough COVID he contracted at the 30-person party on Dec. 21.

The house flipper had a fever that reached 104 degrees. Other guests — including co-host Megan Weaver, assistant Shane Douglas, actress Monika Casey, Shahs of Sunset star Mercedeh Javid Feight and Lewis' on-again, off-again, on-again boyfriend Scott Anderson — all tested positive too.

"I don't regret [it], by the way," Lewis said on Monday of the event, which was held at Real Housewives of Miami alum Lea Black's Los Angeles home. "That was an epic party. It was so worth almost dying for!"

Despite the backlash, the reality star claimed he had done everything to ensure everyone was safe, even hiring a nurse to test every guest before they went in.

"People are saying we're reckless and stupid. No we're not, f---ers," Lewis said. "We were all vaccinated and we had a nurse there testing all of us before we even went in the door. … I thought we were being responsible."

Until he's fully recovered, Lewis said he's going to continue distancing from Monroe, who has been staying with Edward.

"I don't want her to get sick and I also don't want to take care of her because I don't have any nannies," Lewis joked, explaining that a few of his housecleaners and nannies who work for him had also contracted COVID.”

Worth dying for? Really?
A nurse testing at the door?
Those wonderfully reliable rapid tests that people think are a magic wand....

I'm sorry your family is sick.
Speaking as a mom whose kids are scattered far and wide: If I was 97 years old and had a choice, I would choose to enjoy an evening with my loved ones. I think I would be pretty lonley after two years of pandemic life. My attitude might be Let's Go COVID!

My sister just contacted the billing department at Novant Health to inquire about the costs of my niece's care. They said the cost would be ~$8-10,000 per day for intensive care of a ventilated covid patient. My niece does not have health insurance and the doctor's expect her to be in ICU for at least 7-10 days, and she will likely be discharged to a rehab facility for a period of time after that, soooo.......

Well over $120K. Another thing for folks to think about in the coming weeks. jmo

Emergency rooms: Where to NOT get tested for COVID-19 | wcnc.com

“As COVID-19 cases surge in the Carolinas and across the country, doctors and nurses in Charlotte-area hospitals have an urgent warning: Think twice about where you're going to get tested.

Courtney Cortes, the director of nursing for emergency services at Novant Health Presbyterian, said the emergency department is the busiest it’s been in the last two years.

All of our units are really at critical capacity,” Cortes said. “Initially, it was thought omicron wouldn’t have as many admissions coming in, but we actually are seeing a huge uptick of COVID admissions in the last two weeks, which I think is more than we were anticipating.”

Across our regions, really, you can anticipate patients waiting in the double-digit hours to get back to a room.”

At any time, she said 12 to 15 people are waiting for a COVID-19 test. They’re urging people to go to an outpatient setting, Novant Health has several urgent care locations offering free COVID-19 tests.

Omg.

I think it's about one inch, but they have to do both nostrils and twist it around for 15 seconds.
I had a PCR test scheduled at the CVS drive thru today but their computer program wasn't working so I had to reschedule. The test might be uncomfortable but it's much more accurate than the home tests, I think.

When did they change it? I had a rapid and PCR a couple of months ago. That PCR nearly did me in. The tech handed me kleenex beforehand and said "you'll need these for your nose or for your tears". Wasn't kidding.

Our state Premier is holding his daily presser at the moment.

It is now going to be mandatory for our healthcare and front line workers to have a booster, in order to meet the mandatory 'fully vaccinated' requirement.

4:30 EST. *Shudder* I read the site directions and it made it sound like it was directed at the person taking the test. So maybe I can stick it up my own nose? I guess we'll find out. The website says 1-2 days. But I have a feeling things are backed up everywhere. The option to do at home tests was taken offline till after January 2nd to keep from a greater backlog.

Just as a note to others you can apparently order PCR tests from off labcorp or quest labs. You can have tests mailed to you or picked up at a pharmacy and mailed back to the lab. I guess it's the same processing as the drive through tests. But I had not realized the option to get a PCR test and not even leave your home was ever an option.
