Meanwhile, in Canada, a planeload of maskless rowdies who went to Mexico, are unable to find anyone willing to fly them back to Montreal.

Three Canadian airlines refusing to board 'unruly' Quebec influencers returning from Mexico

There are very few airlines fly the route - most are likely full, anyway, everyone books a round trip.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/01/07/canadian-group-stuck-in-mexico-party-flight/

“All the flights have been [canceled],” Rebecca St-Pierre, 19, told the Canadian Press. She said she won the trip on Instagram and expected a “relaxing week.”

Instead, she is isolating in Tulum, after testing positive for the corona virus. She estimated about 30 others from the Dec. 30 flight have also tested positive. Before the Jan. 5 return flight was canceled, St-Pierre told the wire service, some of the Canadian passengers put Vaseline up their noses, attempting to throw off the coronavirus tests.

As U.S. Figure Skaters Test Positive, New Worries for Winter Olympics - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Problems at the national championships could turn up in Beijing next month, too.

...It remains unclear, though, how long it will take potential Olympians battling the virus to feel well enough to skate again or to begin testing negative, only adding to the uncertainty as many athletes prepare to travel to Beijing soon.

China has already announced elaborate measures to protect against the coronavirus reaching its own population or participants in the Winter Games, and to ensure those two groups have almost no contact with one another. Last month, Chinese officials detailed some of the strictest rules yet for its own citizens attending the Games.

Spectators — which were already limited to residents of China — will be allowed to clap, but not shout, in support of athletes. Waiters, cleaners and other support staff will not be allowed to leave Olympic venues to visit their families. And any Olympic participants leaving the vicinity for other parts of China will be required to spend at least one week in quarantine, followed by at least two weeks of isolation at home...

Omicron in the hospital: Many patients hospitalized for other ailments, also test positive (nbcnews.com)

Patients taken to the hospital with Covid — instead of for Covid — may be earlier in the course of the disease and far more contagious, doctors say.

As the super contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus spreads, hospitals are seeing a growing trend: Patients admitted for other ailments are also testing positive for Covid-19. Doctors say it may mean more people have asymptomatic or undiagnosed disease than the current data show.

Across NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s 10 campuses, just less than half of patients are admitted with Covid, meaning they were hospitalized for a non-Covid related issue but were also tested and found to be carrying the virus. Statewide the figure is 43 percent, according to state data.

“I’ve admitted patients with abdominal pain, I’ve admitted patients with chest pain who had no symptoms of respiratory illness, cough or Covid, and they just ended up being Covid positive,” said Dr. Rahul Sharma, the emergency physician-in-chief for the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center...

Just came back from Costco here in Fort Myers Florida. It was packed- I was surprised since it was only 10:30 am-- Most people were not masked--- I double masked----we got through there quickly. I thought about the law of averages- that out of all the people at Costco doing their shopping, a certain percentage of them have the virus- are probably asymptomatic and are not masked and will spread the virus.

Can you not do curbside pickup?

Our Costco is packed on the weekend, too, as that is when most people here do their shopping. If I need to get something at Costco, I try to go early in the morning mid-week, before the rush on Thursday - Sunday. Monday is also busy. About half the people wear masks in Costco here. That may be less now, though, I haven't been to Costco for about a month.

Unfortunately I have to fly to Houston, I’m at the airport and countless people are walking around unmasked. Whole groups of people walking together, families, couples, etc. There are signs posted that masks are required and announcements are being made but airport security and employees are not saying anything to anyone.

I’m wearing an N-95 of course.

My husband just tested positive with an FDA approved at home test. Ugh. We've been so careful.

At Bush or Hobby?
That’s changed dramatically and has not been like that there! (A terminal)

Glad you’re wearing an N95. Bathrooms at Hobby are nice, large stalls, very clean, touchless fixtures.

HISD started back in person on January 3rd. Wonder why so many families with school kids are traveling.

Fly Safe Houston | Business and Partnerships | Houston Airport System
That’s very concerning. Be safe!

COVID-19 Testing Available at Bush Airport | Houston Airport System
Terminal E at Bush - testing available.

I haven’t been to Costco in 8 months, once a year is good for us....toilet paper, paper towels, Flonase, Prilosec, spices, Kcups.

For some reason, every time I read about “herd immunity,” I think of “culling the herd.” :(

Because before herd immunity is reached many will die.

Nurse Daughter just sent me a photo on her 2 min. break. Caption reads Covid hurts my face. She is treating Covid Patients. Her nose is raw and face. I could cry. People please wear a mask and follow protocols!

I'm so sorry @155etta How is he feeling? I hope you are both vaccinated and it's a mild run of the illness. Keep us posted!

Yes, I saw the DM article on that. Justice Sotomayor numbers were greatly inflated.

CDC Director Wallensky corrects Justice Sotomayor's obscenely false claim | Daily Mail Online

"'We have over 100,000 children, which we've never had before, in serious condition, and many on ventilators,' Sotomayor said on Friday.

Walensky contradicted Sotomayor's claim during a segment of Fox News Sunday.

'The number is not 100,000. It's roughly 3500 in hospitals now?' asked host Bret Baier.

'Yes. In fact, what I will say is, while pediatric hospitalizations are rising, they're still about 15 fold less than hospitalizations of our older age or age demographic,' Walinsky answered.

Sotomayor's egregious miscalculation - which can be easily debunked with data reported by the CDC - follows her overly-cautious response to the pandemic, with her choosing to join Friday's hearing virtually."

I'm sorry Bravo. Having worked during Covid before I retired, I remember how long the days were in all the protective gear and the masks were the worst!
Bless your daughter for taking care of the Covid patients! I know those medical professionals who are on the covid ward have to wear far more gear than I did. What would we do without caring nurses like her and her coworkers. Please thank her for us.

:( I’m sorry, it’s got to be incredibly hard on her and you as her mother.
It makes me angry and sad when people dismiss or down play what’s going on in our hospitals and the tremendous stress on our nurses.
