Exactly. And my mom ADORES him. He is so patient and sweet. They get along great. Last visit they both stayed up until 3 am talking and drinking martinis. lol It was the anniversary of my father's passing and so they toasted him with his favourite drink then had a few more.

So I know she would love for him to come too. She gets annoyed by me when I keep making her use her oxygen and I double check her meds, lol, but if he asks her about that stuff she smiles and does as he suggested. I think he reminds her of Dad...:)

AND help is needed because I have to remind her that we cannot go out shopping or to her local restaurant that she loves, like we always used to do when I visit/

One of our main past times was that she could go out and do things on her own, with me helping her. But we cannot go into Reno to shop right now, and she still forgets that because her memory is not so great. Its is good for a 92 yr old, luckily.

Covid has been hard on her because it broke down our routine that my brothers and I had in place. :(....even when her complex was locked down, she would ask, if we were coming this week, and I'd remind her the place was not allowing visitors and she would get sad and remember again....and we had that same convo a few dozen times....

Mom sounds adorable! Tell her a 'bunch of your friends' would love to share some martinis with her!!

So now Savana Guthrie (newscaster) on the Today show has Covid. She says it's "just a little sniffle" source: watching Today show this Monday morning.
Seems like everyone is getting Covid! I want to be one of the 100 left in the world that doesn't get it :)
Her cohost Hoda Kotb tested positive a few days ago too.
I don’t want it either!

Novak Djokovic: Judge orders immediate release of tennis star

[Lawyer for the tennis player] Nick Wood told the court that the exemption had been granted to the player by two separate medical boards following a recent coronavirus infection and that he had presented all the necessary medical evidence to officials.

"He had done absolutely everything. He had engaged with everything that was required of him by Tennis Australia," Mr. Wood said.

Judge Kelly appeared to agree with Mr. Wood's argument and told government lawyers that he felt "agitated" by what he had heard so far.

"What more could this man have done?" he [the Judge] asked.

At least 2 US health care providers forced to prioritize Covid-19 testing for symptomatic people

As laboratories struggle to keep up with the increased demand for Covid-19 tests triggered by the surging Omicron variant, at least two US health care providers have prioritized coronavirus testing for those who exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

The University of Washington last week at multiple locations began prioritizing Covid-19 testing solely for those “who have symptoms of respiratory illness or who have a known exposure to COVID-19,”

University facilities are not currently testing people without symptoms, including those seeking tests related to travel or gatherings, “due to the high volume of omicron cases that are being processed in our laboratory.”

Nine UW Covid-19 testing locations are currently open throughout King County, including in Seattle, but Gregg tells CNN that three other university sites run in concert with the city and county have been forced to temporarily close due to “capacity limitations.”

The University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill is facing a similar testing and is also restricting Covid-19 tests to those exhibiting symptoms, as well as university employees, and those requiring a test prior to a surgery, according to UNC Health Director of News Alan M. Wolf.“We expect to keep the restrictions in place until the number of cases begins to decrease,” Wolf said.

Kind of unreal considering all of the measures the Austrian citizens have been through the past 2 years. I suppose there really are two sets of rules. I won’t be pulling for him.

Djokovic Attended Event With Young Tennis Players – Unmasked – A Day After Positive Covid Test

Why the big secret that he had Covid? Wonder if it was Omicron? Or if he received any treatment?

He could have stated he tested positive on December 16th in previous interviews and that he thought that was a sufficient exemption. State the facts simply.

Sounds like he had a very mild case, he was out doing in person appearances then 14 days later he’s on a flight and in tip-top shape to play.

It's so heartwarming to hear of the relationship between you, your husband and mom. I hope he's able to go with you and they can enjoy a martini together again!

Chicago schools cancel classes again as fight with teachers over Covid hits second week (nbcnews.com)

The Chicago Teachers Union is holding a "day of action" on Monday after weekend negotiations failed to produce an agreement over Covid-19 safety protocols.

Chicago school leaders canceled classes for the fourth consecutive day on Monday as a standoff with the local teachers' union over remote learning and other Covid-19 safety protocols entered its second week.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said on Sunday that weekend negotiations had failed to produce an agreement, meaning classes would be canceled on Monday...

The development comes after the union accused the city of failing to do enough to ensure that students and teachers could return to school safely in the midst of rising Covid cases. It has argued that students should continue with remote learning, clashing with city officials who want students back in the classroom and claim it is one of the safest places they can be...

Omicron explosion spurs nationwide breakdown of services

Ambulances in Kansas speed toward hospitals then suddenly change direction because hospitals are full. Employee shortages in New York City cause delays in trash and subway services and diminish the ranks of firefighters and emergency workers. Airport officials shut down security checkpoints at the biggest terminal in Phoenix and schools across the nation struggle to find teachers for their classrooms.

The current explosion of omicron-fueled coronavirus infections in the U.S. is causing a breakdown in basic functions and services — the latest illustration of how COVID-19 keeps upending life more than two years into the pandemic.

Exactly. And unfortunately, many of those who die have done everything they could to remain healthy, but were infected by someone who can’t be bothered. Not suggesting anyone “deserves” to be “culled,” but those who have tried to take care for the sake of themselves and society as a whole certainly don’t deserve to be among those culled. :( But the virus isn’t concerned about what’s fair.

Agreed. We are seeing selfishness that others won't take the basic steps to protect others including themselves.

I know-- it is astounding to see stadiums full of people living
like there is no pandemic

A large group of our population is living in denial of reality, and suffering delusions there are exceptional and cannot get sick or this virus is not even real.

I agree. It just seems like a real slap in the face to all the Australians who have worked so hard to keep their numbers low......

The whole notion of 'privilege' just raises its ugly head too often....

I agree. I'm rather shocked. The Australian citizens have been more than compliant with all the restrictions they've been under. I can't believe they are giving Djokovic a pass (and I'm a HUGE tennis fan). The rules were clear that he needed to be vaccinated. All the other players seem to be complying. It boggles the mind.

I wonder how this affects working parents and their income. Such knock on effects this all has.

I know that last night JCPS (Louisville) was moved to: no school today and e learning until at least Friday. Last night. Can you imagine making alternate plans, as a working single parent, for a week with basically no warning?

Honestly, no. I was a single parent for years and it was hard enough needing the odd day.

I totally get where these teachers are coming from. And it is frustrating. It is endlessly stupid to get this stupid paper from HR, explaining "Covid Flexibilities" offered. From supervisors and HR snuggly secured at their little home office on telework.

If you request a "Flexibility", boom, endless paperwork, and believe me, retaliation. And they say, "Well, we gave you a mask". What is your problem?!

My "problem" is that if I get Covid and give it to my spouse, he will probably DIE! Thanks for the mask and bottle of hand sanitizer.

It is reminiscent of those nuclear bomb drills we had in elementary school, "Nuclear Bomb drill, everyone get under your desk, and close your eyes!!". And I was "secured", under my desk, with my eyes, tightly shut. Perfectly safe from a nuclear bomb, earthquake, or tornado. Of course.

I feel sorry for the whole lot of them--teachers, students, parents, and vulnerable family members. :(
