Bless her! These have been tough times for kids. May she have an easy adjustment during these changing times. And the support of her teachers no matter what she chooses.

What a confusing time for children. Although, my kids are young adults, it has completely de-railed their lives since 2020. It has not affected some people as much as others. Just depends on so many variables. Your age, generation, lifestyle.

I spoke with someone the other day about this, her outlook was rather grim. She believes that masking will be the new "normal" now, depending on the variants. Sure fling your mask today, in six months we may need another shut down due to impossible run away infections in the community. Just like a "Merry go Round".

I kind of agree with her. :(

I went all day without a mask today. First time in weeks.

Yep, one after the other with 5 days between, so we’re not out of the woods yet. Luckily they’re both fully vaccinated, as are we, so it’s been mild.

It does make me worry about us scrapping isolation soon (currently 5-10 days), it’s clearly very contagious and while it might be all well and good for younger folk, it’s not for older more vulnerable people.

So 5 days after our daughter got it (which was 5 days after our son) now I’ve bloody caught it. Right at the start of the school holidays too, marvellous!

Ok- so getting my hair done next Thursday- Hubby's birthday- he says let's go to a restaurant after you get your hair done!! I say OMG, to a restaurant, with people breathing next to us? I don't know about that!!! Haven't dined out in two freaking years- Is it time? I have a friend who is in Florida (Boca)- she says she is dining out, sans masks--- She is in her 80's, is boosted -and says she feels comfortable at this time dining out!!! I dunno---- maybe it is time!!

Started with a sudden massive sneezing fit and then my nose ran like a tap. Other than that slight dry throat and tired… oh and randomly, one puffy flickery eye! Just feel bad for the kids as had a few things planned for next week. And now it’s snowing, the roads are gridlocked and the weather forecast is rubbish all week. ROLL ON SUMMER!!!

You're still in Florida, correct? Then it's easy enough to eat outdoors. My parents in Florida have never liked to eat outdoors, not even when they lived in NYC and the weather was warm. My dad is a mosquito magnet.
However, when we had to fly there to help them, we (from NYC and NJ), insisted that we eat outdoors.

I want my parents to enjoy whatever time is left to them, and they like to go to restaurants. But the rest of us were acutely aware that even though we tested negative on PCRs before we went, we had to navigate through airports and airplanes and crowds. We didn't want to take any chances for their health or for ours, either.

IMO eat outdoors whenever you're in a climate that makes that possible.

Isnt there rooftop dining places? I’m remembering one with a wonderful view of the river there? It might have been a bar atmosphere more than a formal restaurant, could have been brunch mimosas. ;)

This particular restaurant my husband likes has a section that is screened in
So air is moving thru it -----the downside is people are allowed to smoke in that area
So I think that is out. we are not real familiar with restaurants here in Fort Myers, but the ones we like don't have outdoor dining. I may have to do a little
Research.

Yes! Al fresco dining a big thing in Colorado, outdoor patios always had a waiting list
Outdoor heaters in existence and some provide blankets

I am still not comfortable with indoor dining. I remember that "air conditioning" vent article, where everyone in the restaurant was infected by the people sitting under the vent.

That being said, we have gone out, and I have not been infected by Covid yet, as far as I know. Which is pretty amazing, given that I work at an office. We have had family members with Covid, friends, a co-worker of mine died from Covid, and we are still not infected.

I wonder if some people have a natural immunity to Covid?

I think there might be something in this, Mickey. My friend hasn’t had it yet. She works in a special needs school with small snotty children hugging or fighting her all day long, all the other staff have had it at least once and most of the children too. Her own children are at two different schools and have both had it. Her husband caught it at work, she didn’t really distance from him as it was the school hols so having it then would have suited her. She goes out way more than I do; dines in, goes to bars, hugs strangers when drunk lol. She’s a bloody liability to herself ….but has somehow never caught it.

Meanwhile another friend, single mum with one kid, working from home and been really careful as her mum is very immunocompromised … between her and her son they’ve had it 5 times.

Go figure!!

She might have had it but was asymptomatic. One of my relatives had it twice, asymptomatic each time. Only knew because of being tested regularly. Second time was after being vaccinated and boosted.

She tests 3 times a week because of her job. We’ve all had access to free unlimited tests since Nov 2020.

Well what we have decided to do is get carry out from this great seafood place really close to us! My husband loves crab and I love grouper ( I am allergic to any kind of shellfish)--- Unfortunately this restaurant does not have outdoor dining and it is a really tiny place. I am not sure am ready for in-door dining quite yet---
