Is this pandemic over? What do you think?
I don’t think it is black and white. I don’t think COVID is ever going away. Scientists talk of it being endemic. I am not a scientist so I have no idea when this will be. They probably don’t either.
They said, I have learned to live with it. I am thankful for my vaccines, the new treatments and antiviral drugs. They have allowed me to get back to my normal life. I know for some this is not possible due to risk factors. COVID is a big heath threat to many still.
For a long time to come I feel we will be a society divided. Those who’s health risks require them to mask, stay isolated and be very careful and those like myself who are able to get back to normal.
One other note. I think where one lives also plays a part in @KALI ‘s question. Where I live in Michigan by all outward signs the pandemic is “over”. In other states and countries there are mask requirements, vaccine mandates and proof of vaccine to do things. We don’t have that here so maybe it clouds perception of what is happening pandemic wise? If that makes sense?

One of my clients is having customers asking if the people who will be working at their houses are vaccinated (otherwise they don't want them at their homes).

And the schools, childcare centres, and retirement homes where they have jobs definitely require vaccinated tradespeople ... the work orders from those places clearly state the requirement.

So, we had to get a copy of everyone's vaccination status from his staff. And my client has to carefully schedule his staff now, to honour the client requests.

Fortunately, he only has 2 staff members (out of 17) who are unvaccinated. The unvaccinated ones are usually scheduled to work at vacant properties where they sometimes have work. The unvaccinated ones sometimes get less hours than the vaccinated people, even though they are good at their trade.
But my client is not about to not honour the requests of his customers, because he has a good reputation to maintain.

I can see this being a consideration when my client needs to hire additional or new staff.

My former husband is the one who said he would rather starve then get the vaccine. He runs a company that designs/installs kitchens and is in and out of houses all the time. And... I think he knows how to sniff out the same kind of people to work for him.

He will wear a mask if customers ask for it...... but I have always wondered what he says if he is directly asked if he is vaccinated. My guess is that he lies, and that he is not alone....... I know or know of many who just lie... it shuts down the conversation right away.

Interesting question.
I just feel too warn out to be optimistic ......
I think it is "healthier" for us to just assume it is endemic.

Whew....I think I made it home safely, with none of us catching Covid...:)

Just got back from flying up North to visit my Mom in her retirement community. I have been home now for 5 days, with no symptoms of illness. My daughter has no symptoms and My 92 yr old Mom is fine as well.

So even though I had to go through airports 4x and fly, and all that, no harm, no foul....And it was a lovely trip.

so good! I really think we were all tagging along on your "ROADTRIP. I must admit, I was thinking about your Mom the most. I just could feel her thrill to have her family come be with her. She has wonderful memories to savor forever...

I have made two trips back and forth from Florida to Vermont.... and I am even going again in March --which is lousy weather time--- but it is the "roadtrip" that makes me want to go back and forth.
Well... and seeing my kids, too, i guess. Ha! But I just LOVE 'roadtrips!!!!!

COVID-19 seems to increase risk of serious heart ailments year after recovery: report

COVID-19 seems to increase risk of serious heart ailments year after recovery: report

Any infection with COVID-19—regardless of severity—seems to increase the risk of heart ailments for survivors, according to a new study that one researcher called "stunning."

The study found an increased risk of 20 different heart and vessel issues for those who’ve had the virus a year earlier, Science magazine reported.

Reuters reported that the study found that those who recovered from the virus had about a 63% higher risk of having a heart attack and a 52% greater risk of stroke one year later. The news outlet also said those who recovered had a 72% higher risk of heart failure. The elevated risks seemed to impact everyone, regardless of sex, age or whether there were pre-existing conditions, the report said. The magazine pointed out that even those who were not hospitalized also had greater risk of cardiovascular disease.

The Fox article is quoting the Science article/study, which is quoting articles from Nature Medicine (Nature.com). These are considered solid reputable sources, right? I just don't know for sure.

But I find this data overwhelming, actually. And I hope we keep seeing more validation. The people I know, who had the worst cases, complained the most about heart related breathing problems, not respiratory related breathing problems.

Thanks, Ellie., for posting.

So we are in the middle of a total bathroom remodel. We had plumbers, drywall, tile guys and general contractors. Some wore masks, some not. Most interesting was when we did ask if they were vaccinated, they were honest. Three different workers said no. They offered to wear a mask. We have been around unvaxxed folks so it was not a thing for us but I was kind of surprised that they didn’t lie. I often wondered if they were proud? Glad to talk about it? Who knows. They were all kind and not confrontational.
But what would have happened if I kicked them out? It would have delayed my project I guess.

DH and I were talking yesterday about why our test kits hadn't arrived yet. Not long after our conversation, there was this special report on WDIV. Like many of you, I ordered the government test kits the day before announcement was made public. It's possible that the post office did not want to deliver the test kits when we had a couple of weeks of below freezing temperatures. I will call post office today and ask what might be causing the delay in the delivery of the Covid test kits. Still waiting on the free at-home COVID tests you ordered from the government? So are many others (clickondetroit.com)

I ordered ours the day before it went live . They arrived February 25. They were delivered during a big cold snap. They sat in my mailbox for three days while we were on vacation. I called the number on the box for questions and the person that answered said they should be fine as long as I let them come to room temp before using. I had the sniffles and didn’t trust them. Got a PCR test at the pharmacy. It was negative.

At the Krogers grocery store yesterday where I am in Ohio, I saw Binax Now self-test kits on the shelf in the pharmacy aisles. Good to know they are out there if you need them, and that you can be reimbursed by your health care plan. The kits they had on the shelves contained two tests each and were being sold for $29.95.

Oh dear, Prince Charles has Covid again. He was out last night at a do with a couple of our leading politicians. No word on whether he’s seen his mum recently.

Prince Charles tests positive for Covid, Clarence House says

Apparently he saw The Queen 2 days ago.

Fears for Queen as Palace REFUSES to say if she has Covid after it's revealed she met Charles | Daily Mail Online

The Prince of Wales met the Queen on Tuesday just two days before he tested positive for Covid-19 and was forced into self-isolation, sources have said.

This is the second time Prince Charles, 73, who is triple jabbed, has tested positive for the coronavirus after contracting the disease in March 2020.

The Queen, 95, is not showing any symptoms but the source declined to confirm whether or not she had tested negative.

Her majesty is understood to be fully vaccinated so will not need to self isolate, unless she tests positive. But she will be advised to take rapid lateral flow tests, one a day for seven days.

Aides said the prince was found to be positive during a test taken this morning as routine before any public engagements - which suggested he was experiencing no strong symptoms - but they declined to go into further details on his medical condition.

We don't ask service folks that come to our home whether they are vaccinated or not, and would never even think of doing so. We wear masks if we are uncomfortable, and social distance as well.

Whether they are vaccinated or not, they can still spread covid-19, so as long as everyone is masked up, we are satisfied with that. Some home repairs just have to get done, as well as renovations.

That has been my theory too. I was stressed when we moved, none of the movers wore masks. But it was fast, mostly outside.

Prince Charles tests positive for Covid a second time (nbcnews.com)

The announcement came just a day after the Prince of Wales and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, attended an event alongside a number of top government officials.

LONDON — Prince Charles has tested positive for Covid-19 for the second time, his office said on Thursday.

The announcement came just a day after the Prince of Wales, who is first in line to the British throne, and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, attended an event alongside a number of top government officials.

"This morning The Prince of Wales has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now self-isolating," Clarence House announced in a tweet.

"HRH is deeply disappointed not to be able to attend today’s events in Winchester and will look to reschedule his visit as soon as possible," it said...

To be fair, we asked out of curiosity. It would not have made a difference to me. And we only asked a few. Mr Pirate is always trying to stir up a conversation. I told him to stop asking. After all, he didn’t ask the guy that sat next to us at the bar last week so quit hassling the contractors. My reason for noting it here was how honest they were and said no if they didn’t. Anyways, I just wanted to clear that up.

I understood that to be the case when I read your post. Although I jumped off your post with my post, I didn't mean to be responding directly to you, sorry that I gave that impresssion.
