Thank you! He is about back to normal, other than a cough. I feel like I have a horrible cold with a v sore throat. V different to 2020, thankfully.
@HongKongPhooey I am glad Mr. HKP is feeling better. Also good that your Covid this time is not like the last. I am sorry though, and hope you round the corner soon. Do you drink tea? The steam from tea tends to open my nose as I sip when I have a bad cold.
Hoping you feel better soon!!! Thank goodness for the vaccines which, though they don't prevent
Covid, they make Covid much less severe.

I went to a 4th of July dinner party and found out the next day someone thought they just had a cold and came to the dinner anyway. They never even bothered testing. They figured since they were vaccinated and boostered - they didn’t have Covid. One by one this week we are all now positive. I tested positive this morning with a home kit and I’m very stressed out. My last shot was 5 months ago. I am so mad at myself for letting my guard down, going to the party and not wearing a mask, My throat is the worst - very sore, and my ears feel very full along with a bad headache, coughing, and a weird sensation in my chest. Approximately how long does it take for this new variant to clear ? And do symptoms get worse after the initial onset? My throat has been on fire for 3 days now, but today was the first time I’ve tested positive this week.

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Does the area you live in offer the Test-to-Treat program? My friend took at the at-home test and was positive and vaccinated. She was able to get an infusion yesterday. She was having similar symptoms.

I'm sorry you got Covid and are having uncomfortable symptoms. It's too bad that a careless person with a "cold" infected you and others at that dinner. I can't answer your question about how long it takes to recover, but I believe it's an individualized thing. Have you checked with a doctor?

Good suggestion. Some people use Chloraseptic sore throat spray to numb the throat.

Have you tried to get a paxlovid prescription? It has to be taken early on in the infection so time is running out.

We do, but you have to meet a certain criteria here to get the monoclonal infusion. I’m going to try to get the Paxlovid, but I may just try to suffer through since it’s been 6 days since I was exposed. Today is the worst so far. Sore throat for days, but today I just want to stay in bed.

I haven’t checked yet and have thought about going to urgent care today, but I don’t want to get out and infect anyone else. I’m uncomfortable but have felt sicker than this with the flu, so I’m sort of monitoring myself and if I head downhill - I’ll jump in the car and go. I’m relatively healthy in general; I think I’m just in shock I got it. I should have continued to mask up and avoid being around a lot of people in a closed environment. The person who came to the party sick has beeen given the what for by the hostess of the party and he has apologized, but dang - I wish he wouldn’t have been so careless.

I’m going to add that to my Instacart shopping bag. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you so much! And thank you all for the tips, info and for allowing me to complain and vent. I know a lot of others are suffering a lot worse, and I send healing thoughts to those who are sick!!

Just call them and explain that your just tested positive and ask for paxlovid. They will tell you the procedure I assume. They might let you to remain in your car? You can also call your doctor if you have one and have the prescription send to a pharmacy?

For paxlovid, it has be initiated within five days of onset of symptoms. So you need to act quickly.

I’m so sorry you got it! A nurse friend of mine is recovering and she was quite sick with a “throat on fire” too. Her first symptoms were on Tuesday June 28 and it took her a few days to test positive too. By that Sunday her throat pain was easing. Then it started feeling like a bad cold and by this past Thursday July 8 she’s better but exhausted! So you will probably improve soon. Hang in there!

These kits are free from the federal government right now, if you haven't ordered them recently. Each address can order four test kits and there are two tests in each kit, so 8 free tests per address.

I was in the grocery store today, and there was a huge stack of 6-test packs, free one box per family. At least in Ontario, the tests are still free to whoever wants them, tourists included, no questions asked. No one is allowed to hoard them though.

I hope that you return to good health quickly. Some people are sick for a couple of weeks and some don't seem to be very sick at all. It's so unpredictable.

A friend asked me if I had ever asked for my free test kits from the government. (US) I hadn't. So I did online. Received 12 of them pretty promptly. I have already received my 2 vaccinations and 2 boosters. In between the 2 boosters caught a nasty case of covid. Never stopped wearing a mask (still haven't). Figured family, for the most part is ready for the next unfortunate go round. And although, I am usually not that person, I strongly believe this is not over by a long shot.

It’s definitely not over. I was just reading about a new Omicron variant that is spreading fast and how much more contagious it is. So much so that we might need to start wearing our masks outdoors. Let me see if I can find that article again and I’ll link it.
