It’s definitely not over. I was just reading about a new Omicron variant that is spreading fast and how much more contagious it is. So much so that we might need to start wearing our masks outdoors. Let me see if I can find that article again and I’ll link it.

Is it BA.5? It accounts for more than half of all new cases in the U.S. now.

My issue since covid, incredible bone pain. Nothing I take helps. I hate it! It stops me from so much! My Dr. gave me anti-inflammatory. Nope, not even a dent

Yes I believe so. I can’t find that article I read earlier, but I’m still looking.

That’s terrible! I’m so sorry you are experiencing so much pain. I hope that it will disappear soon!!

Here’s one —

The extra-worrisome BA. 5 is now the most dominant variant in the country, accounting for an estimated 53.6 percent of new infections last week, according to the CDC. As countless Americans gathered over the July 4 holiday weekend, it’s entirely possible that there were more new daily infections happening in the country than at any other point in the pandemic other than the Omicron wave.

Found the article I was looking for:

The article links to this one, which includes the poster below: Coronavirus FAQ: Can I get COVID outdoors? (With printable poster on how to cut risks)
ETA: I guess I should go back to wearing a mask at the outdoor farmer's market, sigh.

I have ignorant family members who refuse the rapid test. One swears it causes cancer. The others say they know they already had it and can’t get it again. We don’t miss them at family events anymore. None the of have been vaccinated.

How could it possibly cause cancer? It's a nose swab. You are better off staying away from people like this.

That news is so depressing I just want to cry!!!
It sure is. I was just starting to do things I did before the pandemic again, like going to restaurants and getting haircuts and so on. But here comes the most infectious virus known (BA.5).

I have a few friends like that. Sadly, one of my best friends - her husband died Oct 2021 after being in the hospital with Delta for two months before he lost the battle with Covid. He was young and healthy prior to his illness. My friend was very sick also and was hospitalized, but refuses to be vaccinated to this day. She gave me some mumbo jumbo about how a nurse in the hospital told her the vaccine is just government control. It’s astonishing, and she’s the first to criticize people who choose the vaccine. There are some people in this world who latch onto conspiracy theories and never stop. I believe we should all have the choice, but at some point you have to use your common sense and believe the science.

Y’all it’s terrible. It’s a very difficult adjustment I know. Our lives are different now and unfortunately we have to accept it. I was very lonely when this started and scared. I’m still afraid, but one thing I realized…we have to adapt. There were a few positive things that happened while on lock down for me. Small things, but I try to be grateful even for the smallest things. I decluttered my home, I learned how to garden - I had a BLACK thumb before. I got better skilled musically. I sewed my own clothes y’all - and made quilts. I still wish life was like it was before the pandemic, but I’m not going to let it rob me entirely. Find something you really enjoy that you have a passion for - even if you can only do it a few minutes a day. You’d be surprised how it can lift your mood. This has been so hard for all of us…so scary. I know. Hang in there.

This is a great article, very comprehensive, (behind a paywall), that describes the state of our country today regarding behavior of the people in this country for this most part: they have thrown caution to the wind - also described as "the wild west".

We don't hear any politicians or the media talking about the ramping up of cases. Masks are a thing of the past--- if you look around, you would never know there is a pandemic, and a dangerous subvariant circulating in this country- people are getting reinfected.

My husband just returned from his family visit. I am wearing a mask, but still we are in close quarters. He and family members went out to dinners and other places where there were lots of people (sigh).

I set him up at a minute clinic for tomorrow for a PCR test- that is the best I can do. I am truly terrified I could get Covid from him.

Gypsy Road, I agree with your outlook. It is not how I wanted to live my life but, my husband and I are retired and homebodies. We live in the same community as half of my extended family. The remainder of our family lives 2 hrs. away. We socialize with family and we continue to with those who are vaccinated. The family members who aren't vaccinated have used zoom or face time. We see my daughter’s family lives 2 houses down and we see the grands at least every other day. I do enjoy and keep busy with papercrafts.

The beginning of the pandemic was difficult for me due to anxiety. I started meds and now appreciate the little things and can live without being so fearful of Covid. I will continue to mask and boost.

Papercrafts!! I LOVE paper crafts! So fun! Been doing it for years! It’s nice to meet another paper crafter!

Since I have Covid right now, I have to wait to get boosted again now. My last shot was 5 months ago, but I’m hoping the new improved one will be here soon enough - they say in the fall. I’m never leaving my house again, ever, without a mask.

I don’t have family here, and my mom is gone, so my friends are like my family - and my neighbors - they are wonderful and all vaccinated. I have a long time hubby too, and even though we are in a difficult spot right now with our relationship - we still look out for one another and he has been very helpful. He’s super careful and scared to death of Covid. In fact, he did not go to the dinner party I went to (where I got this bout of Covid) because he did not want to be around people in a closed environment. I should have listened to him, but I got lax! And I thought we’ll, since everyone was vaccinated we’d be ok. Wrong! Anyway, be careful out there people because this variant is more contagious than the ones that proceeded it. Wear your masks and social distance!
