Coronavirus COVID-19 - Global Health Pandemic #112

...What ivermectin is — and isn’t

Ivermectin was discovered by Japanese biochemist Satoshi Ōmura in the 1970s, first as a veterinary drug and then as a groundbreaking treatment for dangerous and disfiguring tropical diseases such as river blindness, as well as tapeworms, scabies and other worm-related infections. Hundreds of millions of people in mostly underdeveloped countries have used it safely with minimal side effects, such as fatigue or diarrhea, for decades.

During the pandemic, the true benefit of the drug got twisted and distorted amid a social media frenzy. When mainstream doctors and scientists insisted that ivermectin didn’t treat Covid, mostly conservative groups embraced it in direct opposition to public health officials...

I think the goal is to eliminate vaccines altogether. JMO
Yeah, that's a real smart idea. Not.

Why can't it simply be those that don't want them, don't get them, but don't tell people that want them that they can't have them? Shades of other things comes to mind.

Washington — Calley Means has built a following within the “Make America Healthy Again” movement by railing against the failings of the U.S. health system, often pinning the blame on one issue: corruption.

Means, a top aide to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was hired as a White House adviser in March. He has used that perch to attack the nation’s leading physician groups, federal agencies and government scientists, claiming they only protect their own interests in the nation’s $4.9 trillion-a-year industry.

In recent interviews, speeches and podcasts he has called the American Medical Association “a pharma lobbying group,” labeled the Food and Drug Administration “a sock puppet of industry," and said federal health scientists have “overseen a record of utter failure.”...

As I try to grasp the implications of firing the Advisory Panel, I find myself thinking that there won't be any vaccines available this fall... Influenza, COVID, and many more. What do you think - is this the end of vaccine availability in the US? It isn't even easy to go to a foreign country and get vaccinated, because in many countries, vaccines are tied to some type of national health care system that doesn't really accommodate having a visiting non-citizen pay out of pocket.

I need to get a new passport...

From what I have read in MSM, new members will be appointed to the advisory panel. Often a new administration will want their own appointees to serve. I read that the appointments of the current members of the advisory panel didn't run out for quite a few years, so staggering the appointments with new members to serve along older members wasn't an option.

This is understandable and makes sense. I just hope that the new panel isn't compromised of anti-vaxxers who will do little or nothing to restore confidence in vaccines.

When has that ever happened with this panel?

If someone is appointed to serve a particular term, they usually get to finish it out regardless of who wins the election so that the position is not politicized. RFK Jr chose not to honor the length of their appointment. We all should know why…so he can appoint people who are less qualified and anti-vax.

Here's what I don't understand about anti-vaxers (and other things, but this is a Covid thread)... you don't want one? DON'T GET ONE. Why do they have to force their beliefs on everyone? I just can't wrap my head around that. :(

I agree. I think anti-vax opinions increased during Covid with mandatory masks and vaccinations (for some jobs). It was “no one is going to tell ME what to do” on steroids, and it continues. Of course, RFK jr and his fans have been at this longer than covid.

I don’t usually discuss politics with anyone but my DH, we are like minded. But yesterday the subject of Kennedy and vaccines came up with DD. She stated we shouldn’t be forced to get vaccines even though her kids are vaccinated. I tried to explain to her that when vaccines were mandatory, killer diseases were eradicated. But now that uninformed, uneducated people are choosing not to vaccinate due to personal choice, we are seeing a return of these diseases. Before we could finish our discussion, we arrived at our destination.( we were in the car). I just believe the safety and health of most is more important than the freedom of choice for a few.

Yes! Until covid, this was the prevailing belief. But there we were, faced with a deadly disease, and people were screaming about freedom of choice. Never mind the freedom of others to stay alive. Don’t get me started! 🤬

To me, the only fully ethical way to refuse vaccination for contagious disease is to intentionally self-isolate from others, with extreme precautions (masking, distancing, etc) every single time one is in physical proximity or in any way poses a contagion risk to others.

Whether we are aware of it or not, we are relying on the vaccination status of others (ie herd immunity) to protect us, and to not return that respect is (to me) unfathomable.
