Looks like Europe is getting the flu/covid (2-in-1 shot) combo vaccine before us. It was slated to be here potentially last year but the administration put a stop to it. :( Hopefully we can get it soon as it's supposed to work better than getting the flu and covid shots separately. Plus, 1 jab is better than 2 IMO! :D

The world’s first combination seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccine, Moderna’s mCombriax, has received marketing authorization from the European Commission, following a positive review from the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use.

Moderna said on Monday its combination vaccine to protect against both Covid and influenza generated a stronger immune response in adults aged 50 and over when compared to separate shots against the viruses in a late-stage trial.

True, but since I seem to have a reaction to the Moderna vax (not horrible but a typical post-vax reaction of a day or two of mild fever, dizziness, body aches, etc) and little to no reaction to a flu shot, I would rather get them separately than risk a stronger reaction to a double shot.

Weirdly, I have had zero reaction to Pfizer vaxes, so I now choose that one whenever I have the option.

A highly mutated COVID-19 strain is circulating in California — raising concerns that disease activity could rise heading into the summer.

The emergence of the BA.3.2 strain, nicknamed "cicada," comes amid broader uneasiness about COVID vaccination rates among seniors — who are especially susceptible to the virus — and whether complacency after back-to-back relatively quiet winters has left the elderly vulnerable. The "cicada" nickname refers to this subvariant's apparent dormancy before it reemerged in 2025, akin to some periodically active insects of the same name.

The timing of the spread of the cicada subvariant also underscores that COVID has lately morphed into more of a summer disease in California. In fact, the summer peaks of COVID in 2024 and 2025 were worse than their respective winter peaks, according to the California Department of Public Health — a stark departure from the earlier years of the pandemic, when winter surges ripped through California with devastating regularity...

Yes I prefer/need to separate them. Moderna was hell on me. Pfizer I reacted to but Moderna was much worse I would prefer if possible to avoid that one again.

U.S. health officials stopped the publication of a study on whether the Covid-19 vaccine was keeping adults from becoming sick enough to have to go to the hospital.

A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services spokesman on Wednesday confirmed the decision to halt publication, citing a dispute about the study’s methodology.

The research paper was originally set to appear in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s flagship publication, on March 19. It had already had undergone scientific review and the publication's editors had approved it, current and former CDC employees said.

“Scientific reports are routinely reviewed at multiple levels to ensure they meet the highest standards before publication,” HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon said. “The MMWR’s editorial assessment identified concerns regarding the methodological approach to estimating vaccine effectiveness and the manuscript was not accepted for publication.”...

What I found odd is I've had a reaction to both Pfizer and Moderna, so would always time them when I had some down time available to chill and do nothing, not even cook. But the last several times (and I always get Moderna now because my research tells me they are a squeak better than others and I'll take that squeak. lol) I haven't had a reaction at all. Not even the sluggishness that I used to expect. I couldn't even walk at a normal clip the day after, I'd just plod along slowly. All that is GONE and has been gone.

Not sure why that is but it tells me it's not necessarily the vaccine maker/brand (although it might be for someone else, it's just not that way for me since all reactions are long in the past). Maybe it's that way for others but they wouldn't know if they stopped taking a certain brand? (ever curious mind over here on the way things work. lol)

How interesting!

I went to town today and was going to see if I could get my springtime covid shot, but I decided to wait until next week because there are some things out in the community I might want to do this weekend, and I don't want to risk feeling crummy.

Last fall I got the Moderna because it was the only one easily available, and I honestly don't remember if I had a reaction or not.

I'm absolutely not an expert but thinking maybe our bodies (immune system) are adapting?
That might be, but all other evidence around me points to poor memory on my part 👵
