Starbucks....no I can't, I just can't..They know my drink by heart...I can't give it up. This is a most seriously issue. I need help immediately. What can I order on line to make my Starbucks at home. I'll give up toilet paper for Starbucks.
I use the starbucks latte and mocha packets when I go backpacking.

Yesterday, I told everyone I was feeling better. This morning I had an appt. at my local Veteran Affairs medical clinic for a meeting . First thing that happened after getting off the elevator a clinical staff member dressed in medical scrubs, mask and gloves asked me a few questions, if I had been ill or had been in contact with anyone from out of the united states. I had checked my temperature Tuesday night and Wednesday morning it was 94.6. But since I had been running a fever within the last week, she asked me to put on a mask and follow her her into the exam room for further questions from the doctor. A nurse came in wearing a mask and gloves asking me the same questions. I gave her the information about when my fever and coughing began.
The same answers as I gave the first clinical staff member. She checked my blood pressure, oxygen rate and temperature which turned out to be 99.6 a low grade fever I've been running. She left the room and came back a few minutes later.
I was told to go home and wear a mask when I'm around by husband. If I feel worst go to the ER. Stay away from people for next two days. The clinical staff member by the elevator provided me with 3 extras mask to take home.

sorry to hear that
what kind of masks?

Also a big fan, and work at a horse-related attraction in Lexington. I think the "first Saturday in May" is also going to fall victim to the virus. If not, my pick is Tiz the Law! JMO

Why would one need to withdraw their money from the banks ?

People are panicking and there could be a run on the banks, its happened before. Cash is king when there are shortages, the black markets don't take credit cards.

Wondering if anyone has heard about treating it w something they treat Malaria with? Report came out of China that this substance showed promise. All I can remember it is related to quinine?

I think you're thinking of quercetin? I saw something mentioning that but don't have the link.

Quercetin: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Dosage, and Warning

I for one, don’t even use cash. Debit card, and even better, Apple Pay are the way. IMO

I don't use cash either. Debit card. Think of how many people may have handled it. Common knowledge money is not the "cleanest"

If you don't mind my asking, do either of you have a backup plan for an extended outage of either electricity or internet?

I have been taking cash from the bank, but it's part of my general preparedness to have some cash at home, and in recent years I had gotten lazy and used it up without replacing. So I'm not doing it specifically for this situation, but for those of us who think the economy is fragile, as is the power grid and other aspects of our infrastructure, it's a prudent thing to be able to deal with a wide range of scenarios. Certainly any fragility in our systems are going to be tested during this crisis.

And an unrelated anecdote: yesterday morning I heard from my firewood guy. He was getting a very early start to his season because it's been so dry in California this winter that he's wisely anticipating the forests being shut to woodcutting early in the summer. He wanted to know if I wanted my usual summer delivery, today. I said sure, since I have the room to store it, and then after he delivered, I realized I'm now "stocked up" on firewood for at least 18 months and probably more like 2 years, depending on temperatures. (firewood is my only heat source other than mega-insulation). Just one more interaction I don't need to worry about if things get hairy in the next few months.

We are a Family of golf fanatics. Every year we apply for Masters tickets. We have never got them. Done by lottery. Friends of ours did. We were so happy for them and told them how lucky they were. Now not so much.

I have a good story to share. I just spoke to my Dad. He is 90 years old. he went to the Safeway today to get groceries and the lady in front of him kept forgetting things and holding up the line. My Dad didn't complain and was friendly towards her. Well, when my Dad started to pay his grocery bill, the cashier informed him that the lady had paid an extra $50 dollars to go towards my Dad's grocery bill. I thought that was pretty cool and a nice story amidst all the bad news.[/QUOTE
What a wonderful story!
Thank you

Hi there, Alethea. You are spot on with your first sentence.......Different strokes for different folks......:)..........moo

Yeah I didn’t mean people shouldn’t do whatever makes them personally comfortable and feeling prepared. I just don’t want people worrying about banks failing among everything else that’s happening. I mean I went and picked up 3 months worth of dog food the other day so stock what you wanna stock ;)

I don’t think this is happening and if it is, I think it’s just people wanting to have cash on hand for their own personal comfort.

This is not a financial crisis. The market is down because investors know many sectors will take a hit due to people not going out - it is unfortunate but bad things happen, companies that focus on travel and recreation will be less valuable while consumer goods and home entertainment companies will do great. The Fed just pumped $1.5 trillion into Treasuries. After 2008 all systemically important financial institutions are required to have enormous reserves that are audited constantly by the Federal Reserve.

There isn’t and never will be a run on the banks. That’s one thing you DON’T have to worry about. They have more money than they know what to do with and much of it has to be liquid. I say this as someone who spent the last financial crisis (2008 - 2015) representing investment banks in complying with regulatory investigations.

It sure is a financial crisis! Most people cannot afford to self-isolate for any length of time, they have rent and bills to pay. Many people live pay cheque to pay cheque. For those with investments, they're down approx. 20% at the moment and heading downhill.

How many businesses will go out of business due to this virus and the 'fear factor' reaction to it??

How long will it take to come out of the recession that this is going to cause??

The Federal Reserve and other governments can only prop things up for so long, then the house of cards collapses. History has proven that.....

If there's a run on toilet paper for lung infections, there can be a run on the banks any time now. IMO, MOO

If anyone missed CNN with Cuomo, he had a Cleveland Cli ic pediatrics infectious disease doctor. It was very enlightening. He thinks, but it is not confirmed, kids are carrying the virus & possibly the virus does not adhere to their young lungs as it does in adults that might smoke or breathed a lot of pollutants. Moo paraphrased, blah, blah.
Also the other coronaviruses did not seem to bother kids.
And, after we have novel C we have immunity but no one knows for how long, but hopefully will.
I think the brightest news in all of this is that children seem to be spared. Thank The Lord. MOO.

Thank you for sharing such a positive story. We need to hear more of those now and in the days to come.
