That’s a good article from Canada. I didn’t find anything about the number 250 though.

I wonder why the number has been changing here in California, from 1,000 to 250, and why my county is suggesting 50. Also, upthread there are new announcements of other numbers being used in other US states/cities. ( Such as 500 in NYC per Gov. Cuomo)

All I’m saying is that I haven’t seen any scientific statements on why 250 is the special number.

But here’s to hoping!

There could be two things that lead to different numbers being quoted.

It could be that political leaders are giving random numbers without consulting their local Public Health Services. I can't imagine that the leaders would take on that kind of liability.

It could also be because some areas have larger infrastructure capabilities than others, and so the group sizes are determined accordingly.

COVID-19: Spread of coronavirus 'much worse' than Ebola

The spread of coronavirus around the globe is "much, much worse" than seen with Ebola, according to the man who helped discover the earlier disease.

Professor Peter Piot, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, told Sky News that the outbreak of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, had the potential to turn into a "really bad situation".

"This is much, much worse than Ebola," he told Sky's science correspondent Thomas Moore.

Duke University men's basketball team will not participate in March Madness

The Duke University men’s basketball team, despite being ranked tenth in the country, will not participate in the upcoming March Madness basketball tournament, following the university’s decision to suspended all athletic competition.

Most conference tournaments are cancelled anyway, so I look for NCAA tourney to cancel. I really wish it could just be delayed, but this is uncharted territory. I have tickets to rounds 1&2 (regional) of the NCAA WBB tourney but got word that we will be refunded. It's disappointing, but with elderly parents to attend to, we might have opted out anyway. Also all other tickets to college athletic events during this time will be reimbursed to us. There are significant financial issues will be forthcoming for our colleges and universities. Tough times on many fronts.

Now I am starting to question all of the severely sick people from "vaping".
It's a stretch, but could that have been the start of coronavirus?
I'm sure the CDC has investigated it, so I'm gonna say no. Cant help but wonder. The symptoms were similar and those that died went fast.
When was that first reported?
MOO!!!!!!!

Ive been thinking about all these closures and wondering what happens after the closures eventually stop.

I mean wouldnt the increase in cases just start all over again whenever the closures stop?

The only thing I can figure is with the warmer weather fast approaching, the closures should help by pushing the virus spreading into the hotter days and months and that should help a lot since the virus is supposed to slow down in the hotter days and months. So I do think its the right thing to do right now. It just makes me wonder if this was all happening in November, would the closures really be effective unless things stay closed throughout the entire cold season.

Lowcountry of S.C. I was just in Walmart for the last run for supplies. We were in Walmart Saturday and the store was stocked well except for hand sanitizer. Today out of toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, bleach, Lysol type cleaners, vinegar, ramen type noodles, hand sanitizer, and low on bottled water .

oh brother, I was on my front porch talking to my neighbor who came by to tell me that Walmart was wiped out, the lines were long, people were getting angry (so glad I prepped) and out the door next door comes my other neighbor (a teacher) and her little boy runs right up to us, the teacher says...oh he has "strep throat and I have an upper respiratory infection"
I have been social distancing myself and today was my first day-FAIL
I felt like they have the black plague as I recoiled in horror...came in the house and felt like dousing myself in Lysol..

The first known person was reported to have contracted the virus on Dec. 1 in China, according to an article in The Lancet. There are infection clusters in Iran, Italy and South Korea; Italy has effectively quarantined the northern part of the country, one quarter of the population.

Will coronavirus continue its silent, sometimes deadly march? What we can learn from the missteps during those critical, early days in China

Amid the fear and confusion surrounding the initial days of the virus in China, some families there have voiced concern and frustration that their relatives’ cause of death was marked as “severe pneumonia” or “viral pneumonia” on their death certificates, the Wall Street Journal reported.

.....

Jmo- probably october when it started.
