Drive-up line at (Colorado) coronavirus testing lab will be cut off due to high volume

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is working to establish and communicate a cut-off point for the line at the drive-up testing site in Lowry, due to the high volume of people looking to be tested for novel coronavirus.

CDPHE is currently determining, based on resources and staff capacity, which vehicle will be the last one and whose occupants can be served Thursday.

Those who are already in line behind the cut off-point will get priority for testing Friday.

For one, we know that the coronavirus outbreak is not as deadly as the SARS epidemic of 2003, which killed around 10% of the 8,098 confirmed cases of the respiratory illness.

And it's far less deadly than Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS, which has killed around 34% of the roughly 2,500 confirmed cases since it was first reported in 2012 in Saudi Arabia.

However, both of those illnesses were far more contained than COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. There have been more than 113,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and it has a mortality rate of 3.4%, according to the latest data.

"It has been more widespread than SARS and MERS. More people are getting infected" Aria Bendix, a senior science reporter for Business Insider said. "But less of those people who are getting infected are actually dying from it."

The coronavirus outbreak is more severe than the 2009 outbreak of H1N1, or swine flu. That illness infected between 700 million and 1.4 billion people worldwide but only had a mortality rate of 0.02%.

And in 2015 and 2016, there were more than 500,000 suspected cases of the Zika virus, leading to 18 deaths. Zika has also been linked to a spike in the birth defect microcephaly.
"That's why it's so important with this coronavirus to actually cover your mouth when you cough or cover your face when you sneeze, so that you aren't spreading it to other people," Bendix said.

As coronavirus cripples cruise lines, one of the world’s most exclusive operators has made the unprecedented decision to suspend its ocean and river trips.

The suspension in response to the global coronavirus outbreak is effective as of today, March 12, and will be in place until April 30.

“We believe Viking will be in a better place to provide the experiences our guests expect and deserve after this time and plan to resume operations on May 1, 2020, continuing all further sailings as originally planned,”
Luxury cruise ships to stop sailing

Wise move on their part. All cruise ship operators should do the same.

Wont be long until they are leaked on social media and/or You Tube. You know someone on that plane documented this.

Donald Trump is considering extending travel restrictions to domestic travel between California and Washington. There is no confirmation and no details from the president on this yet.

I think this should be left to the Governor's of the state and leave the Federal Government out of this one. It's getting too close to partisan stuff, for me.

Oh, and btw- Oregon is in the middle between Washington and California and has it's own set of Coronavirus problems.

There is alarm on Capitol Hill about the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic and the outbreak in the US.

The AP writes:

House lawmakers expressed alarm Thursday after a private briefing with Dr. Anthony Fauci, the National Institute of Health’s infectious disease chief, and other public health officials, Lawmakers were particularly frustrated that U.S. officials have tested relatively few patients suspected to be infected.

“We’re basically, in my opinion, flying blind,” said Representative Susie Lee, Democrat of Nevada.

Others described the meeting as heated, testy with many lawmakers leaving flooded with graver concerns about the administration’s response.

“We should be exuding confidence nationally, said Representative Anna Eshoo, Democrat of California. “The confusion is damaging.”

Human coronaviruses can cause other illnesses, such as pneumonia or bronchitis. This is more common in individuals with heart and lung disease, those with weakened immune systems, infants, and older adults.
Coronaviruses

Treatment
There is currently no specific treatment, other than good supportive care:

  • take pain and fever medications
  • use a humidifier or take a hot shower
  • drink plenty of liquids
  • stay home and rest
If you are concerned about symptoms, call a healthcare professional and tell them about recent overseas travel. Do not go directly to the doctor’s office or hospital, where you may infect other people.

(I was looking to see if there is a link between 19 & any other CV.)

My biggest concern about the emergence of COVID-19 in the United States was the accuracy and timeliness of information about the disease provided by government officials. With each passing day, I grow less confident that we are being kept abreast of the progress of COVID-19 and what is being done to contain the virus.
