I wonder how many people are dying of other conditions because they can't get treatment due to the coronavirus crisis.

Thousands in Europe. The heart attacks, strokes and other major medical crises are not taking a break.

I asked my GP this morning, 'how concerned should I be about this?' and his reply was 'there are 100 people really sick in a population of 30 million'. Canadian figures.

His big concern at is that he and his wife have tickets for 3 major theatre shows in the next few weeks and he's hoping they don't get shut down. He's still going to the ski club on weekends and just came back from a vacation.

The only thing he said was he was going to wash his hands when I left, yet he had not touched me at all but had touched my phone to look at a picture. He also washed them as I entered the room.

This is not a time for anyone to have a health emergency, of any sort, the care might not be there when you need it.

ETA: with Broadway shutting down, it won't be long until Mirvish Productions follows suit.

You know this is what the problem is. This level of stupidity and selfish arrogance. Almost like those jerks kissing and licking shrines in Iran.
I have "heard" my fair share of ppl ranting on SM about overreacting etc. Wanting to know why they cancelled International Housewares Show!! Hello! First word should tell you why. Thousands of people from every country around the world traveling, converging in one place....

Ohio Department of Health believes 100,000 Ohioans are carrying coronavirus

More than 100,000 people are believed to be infected with the coronavirus, according statements by officials with the Ohio Department of Health during a Thursday afternoon news conference.

That number accounts for around 1% of Ohio’s population.
From your link: and we can all do the math.....

We know now, just the fact of community spread says that at least 1%, at the very least 1% of our population is carrying this virus in Ohio today," said Dr. Amy Acton, Director of ODH. "We have 11.7 million people."

According to the Governor Mike DeWine’s Office and the ODH, cases are expected to double every six days.

Whenever you know of 2 people that have it due to community spread, then you can assume that 1% of your population has it," said ODH Press Secretary Melanie Amato, citing a 2017 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report from the CDC.

Good grief....
The office of Sen. Lindsey Graham says he has decided to self-quarantine himself and work remotely because he was in Florida at an event attended by a top Brazilian government official who tested positive for the new coronavirus

Wondering if anyone has heard about treating it w something they treat Malaria with? Report came out of China that this substance showed promise. All I can remember it is related to quinine?

My colleagues at work and I (I’m a pharmacist) have been discussing the possibility of repurposing drugs such as Kaletra (used to treat HIV), Arbidol, or a combination of drugs used to treat Hep C to aid in the treatment of the coronavirus. I think it’s a smart avenue to pursue, but I have serious doubts as to their potential efficacy. I am happy to explain why if anyone is interested but I don’t want to bog the thread down/bore y’all with too much “nerd” talk.

SuperNerd here! Yes, I've read about that also. I'll have to search for substance I read about last night

I, for one, would love for you to get nerdy with us. I've heard from a lot of epidemiologists and physicians, but not much from a pharmacological perspective.

My income tax clinic has just shut down, they were going to file my taxes for me on Saturday morning.

'abundance of caution' seems to be the phrase of the week!

Re: Preventing a covid-19 pandemic: ACE inhibitors as a potential risk factor for fatal Covid-19

Link between ACE inhibitor Lisinopril or the angiotensin Losartan and severity of symptoms of COVID-19?

<snipped and bbm>

"Is the expression of ACE2 receptor in the virus targeted cells increased by the use of ACE-inhibitor/angiotensin-receptor blocker and is the patient therefore more at risk for a severe course?

We need rapid epidemiological and preclinical studies to clarify this relationship. If this were the case, we might be able to reduce the risk of fatal Covid-19 courses in many patients by temporarily replacing these drugs."

---------------------------

Otherwise "healthy," I was diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure) a few months ago. The only medication I am currently using is. . . Lisinopril!!! LOL

I will sit down and compose a post as soon as I get home from running errands. Love sharing my thoughts on the subject and hearing others’ perspectives on the topic!!

I'm an avid racing fan and have been anticipating this. Aqueduct is doing the same thing.

Also a big fan, and work at a horse-related attraction in Lexington. I think the "first Saturday in May" is also going to fall victim to the virus. If not, my pick is Tiz the Law! JMO

I mentioned I work at a major university in Ontario Canada. I bus home and today I had my Frappuccino and now I’m side eyeing it wondering what germs floated into my straw. I really want to drink it. Lol. Had to lighten things up! But I’m paranoid

We just need to remember who put the dominos in place for all this to happen and how awful the reaction was to this all.

Who put the dominos in place?? Seriously, I have no idea what is REALLY happening. This is totally unprecedented in world history. Yes, we've had plagues but the world did not shut down.
