I’m going to see if I can do court call for my case next week. I doubt it. But possibly. I need prayers, vibes, thoughts, whatever you can send me.

Is it possible to do videoconferencing? With your clients or by yourself as you go before the court?

it's funny how one day can change so much
today my FB feed is filled with people worried about the virus and complaining that their grocery store has empty shelves
I just wanna tell them 'I told you people to stock up weeks ago!'

The grocery stores in the Toronto area were madhouses today. Most stores now have limits on water and TP etc but the canned goods were flying out the door and people were livid at the TP limits.

We are going to set the alarm for an hour earlier and go shopping before work tomorrow.

Hoping that no one else thinks of that, want to avoid the madness yet buy more canned goods and pet food.

Its worse, much worse, than the Y2K preparations.

The masks are the type health care workers wear a blue color. Recently I went though my husbands medical supplies
from his stem cell transplant days. I found some unused face masks bring my total to 13. The 9 I found buried in the medical supplies plus the 3 extra the nurse give.
I hope you feel better soon. Such a rollercoaster experience for you.

That makes sense to me.
I would withdraw as much cash as possible. "Just in case".
Very old school though. Hopefully we don't experience a run on banks, due to young people who live in a new world, where debut cards are the norm.
With that said. The panic in the USA is off the charts.
We have less then 100 people deceased, in a country of 363 million.
The Media needs to concentrate on the numbers and stop scaring our citizens.
They like all the clicks, money in their bank.
It is ridiculous. Numbers do not lie.
This is not the end of the world as we know it.
However, all of this fear mongering is absolutely hurting REAL people.
Completely my studious opinion.

We have the latest figures from China now and are expecting detail soon on the number of infections that are from Wuhan, specifically.

Mainland China reported eight new cases of the virus on March 12, continuing a decline after 15 new cases on March 11th.

There were seven new deaths.

That's really good news. China's main weapons against coronavirus have been isolation, quarantine and masks. And it seems to be working.

Taking Care of Your Mental Health in the Face of Uncertainty — AFSP



Human beings like certainty. We are hard-wired to want to know what is happening when and to notice things that feel threatening to us. When things feel uncertain or when we don’t generally feel safe, it’s normal to feel stressed. This very reaction, while there to protect us, can cause all sorts of havoc when there is a sense of uncertainty and conflicting information around us.

A large part of anxiety comes from a sense of what we think we should be able to control, but can’t. Right now, many of us are worried about COVID-19, known as the “Coronavirus”. We may feel helpless about what will happen or what we can do to prevent further stress. The uncertainty might also connect to our uncertainty about other aspects of our lives, or remind us of past times when we didn’t feel safe and the immediate future was uncertain.

In times like these, our mental health can suffer. We don’t always know it’s happening. You might feel more on edge than usual, angry, helpless or sad. You might notice that you are more frustrated with others or want to completely avoid any reminders of what is happening. For those of us who already struggle with our mental wellness, we might feel more depressed or less motivated to carry out our daily activities.

It’s important to note that we are not helpless in light of current news events. We can always choose our response. If you are struggling, here are some things you can do to take care of your mental health in the face of uncertainty:

  1. Separate what is in your control from what is not. There are things you can do, and it’s helpful to focus on those. Wash your hands. Remind others to wash theirs. Take your vitamins. Limit your consumption of news (Do you really need to know what is happening on a cruise ship you aren’t on?).
  2. Do what helps you feel a sense of safety. This will be different for everyone, and it’s important not to compare yourself to others. It’s ok if you’ve decided what makes you feel safe is to limit attendance of large social events, but make sure you separate when you are isolating based on potential for sickness versus isolating because it’s part of depression.
  3. Get outside in nature–even if you are avoiding crowds. I took a walk yesterday afternoon in my neighborhood with my daughter. The sun was shining, we got our dose of vitamin D, and it felt good to both get some fresh air and quality time together. Exercise also helps both your physical and mental health.
  4. Challenge yourself to stay in the present. Perhaps your worry is compounding—you are not only thinking about what is currently happening, but also projecting into the future. When you find yourself worrying about something that hasn’t happened, gently bring yourself back to the present moment. Notice the sights, sounds, tastes and other sensory experiences in your immediate moment and name them. Engaging in mindfulness activities is one way to help stay grounded when things feel beyond your control.
  5. Stay connected and reach out if you need more support. Talk to trusted friends about what you are feeling. If you are feeling particularly anxious or if you are struggling with your mental health, it’s ok to reach out to a mental health professional for support. You don’t have to be alone with your worry and it can be comforting to share what you are experiencing with those trained to help.

There is evidence to suggest the coronavirus does particularly well in certain climates.
Some of the worst hit areas around the world -- from Wuhan, where the virus was first detected, to Iran, Italy and South Korea -- are on more or less the same latitude, with similar temperatures and relative humidity. Researchers at the University of Maryland (UM) have even used this data to attempt to map out other parts of the world that could be at risk of imminent outbreaks.
Though the research remains preliminary, data from the UM study suggests that certain climatic conditions, while not determining whether the virus can survive, may help accelerate its spread.

"In addition to having similar average temperature, humidity, and latitude profiles, (locations along latitude 30-50°N) also exhibit a commonality in that the timing of the outbreak coincides with a nadir in the yearly temperature cycle, and thus with relatively stable temperatures over a more than a one month period of time," the authors wrote.''

30-40 dollars on Amazon. Bought one a year ago and ill never go back. You could rig one up using sink sprayer, appropriate fittings.

If you google 'bum gun' you can find all kinds of hand held/inexpensive attachments for your toilets.

Some do not have to be hooked to electricity or plumbing, just to the water tap on your toilet.

Over Spring Break ... ouch.

Disney probably lost a ton of money closing the 3? resorts in Asia over Chinese New Year.
They'll get it back in the long term. Families will simply reschedule their planned visit for when the crisis abates.

ETA. The reason that we cannot make decisions based on the current number of cases/deaths is that the number of cases is growing exponentially, which means we will be overwhelmed unless extraordinary measures are taken now to impose social isolation...

Understanding exponential growth

The time it takes for the number of cases to double will change during the outbreak and it would be wrong to make projections based on the assumption that this stays constant. But it is important to remind ourselves of the nature of exponential growth.

If during an outbreak the number of cases is in fact doubling and this doubling time stays constant, then the outbreak is spreading exponentially.

Under exponential growth 500 cases grow to more than 1 million cases after 11 doubling times.7 And after 10 more doubling times it would be 1 billion cases.

This is in no way a prediction for the number of cases we need to expect; it is simply a reminder that exponential growth leads to very large numbers very quickly even when starting from a low base. And it is important to be reminded of the nature of exponential growth because most of us do not grasp exponential growth intuitively. Psychologists find that humans tend to think in linear growth processes (1, 2, 3, 4) even when this is not appropriately describing the reality in front of our eyes. This bias – to “linearize exponential functions when assessing them intuitively” – is referred to as ‘exponential growth bias’.8

Psychological research shows that “neither special instructions about the nature of exponential growth nor daily experience with growth processes” improved the failure to grasp exponential growth processes.9

@MJPeony what information is out there about the 18 new cases today? Are they from the Grand Princess perhaps? Any information about how many of them are community spread? TIA

Michigan Governor is closing our schools for 3 weeks starting Monday (hoping to fuse with spring break). I know my high school son (my youngest) will be happy to hear that (he is already in bed).

His bowling banquet for next week has been cancelled. I am already working from home for the past week and a half (my employer has been on top of it). I also am in the higher risk (been in the ER 4 times in past year with twice this year).

Jersey City Mayor Enacts Liquor License Curfew


JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop is implementing a precautionary 10 p.m. curfew effective immediately for all Jersey City establishments carrying a liquor license in an effort to reduce large uncontrolled crowd turnout as a preventative measure to reduce exposing the public to the pandemic COVID-19.

Further measures outlined in the Executive Order include a requirement for all establishments with allowable public capacity greater than 25 people – such as restaurants, places of worship, and special event venues – to maintain a record of all individuals entering the establishment through a sign-in sheet with information to be used solely for the purpose of preventing the spread of COVID-19 by providing means of notification of potential exposure, if necessary.

“There is so much uncertainty around testing, who carries the virus, and how quickly it spreads so we want to be overly cautious until we have some answers,” said Mayor Fulop. “The logic here is simple, if the conversation federally and at the state level is around closing schools, or what we would classify as controlled environments, in order to limit the spread of the virus, wouldn’t logic lead us to make sure we are also thinking about large uncontrolled environments until we have more answers? We want to take the necessary steps.”

Wow! He’s not going to be hugely popular with the alcoholics & liquor stores!
He must anticipate a large number of tests will be available, hence the sign in sheets.
What about hotels? Some have huge common areas, indoor pools, gyms, etc.

On another note Carl Goldman from the Princess cruise just got his daily test results, 28 days after contracting Covid19, the poor guy is still positive! 28 days!
He gets nasal, throat & eyelid swabs and one up the rear end. Amazingly, his wife never got the virus. FYI, he’s in Nebraska.
