I thought the house and senate came to an agreement for people that cannot work because they get sick, quarantined, have to take care of a sick family member. Has that changed in the last couple hours?

There is unpaid FMLA- requirements for applying/notifying based on employer. Unpaid. Have heard zip about which the Feds decided.

Ahhhhhhh...much more relaxed now after a very weak Long Island Iced Tea. :p It’s a jungle out there! We had to go out to pick up a prescription refill and the inhalers my pulmonologist thought would be a good idea to make sure my lungs are in good shape (sticker shock even with Part D drug insurance!).

We also added a little TP and Kleenex to our stash, rationed by the stores. Disinfecting sprays and gels have been out for a week, but I bought mine two weeks ago, thanks to this thread. There were no shortages of food, so I picked up a few more things. I feel we are well-supplied to stay home.

Lots of shoppers were wiping cart handles as they entered the stores. I ran into two friends and we kept our “social distance.” Even though the stores were fairly crowded, I think we were able to avoid getting close to people and kept our hands sanitized and we washed thoroughly when we got home, so here’s hoping. One of the friends we ran into has her daughter visiting from Portland, OR where there are more known cases than here in Southern Oregon, so I hope she didn’t bring it with her...not likely, but my mind went there, of course.

Sooo i went in to work briefly today to meet with a gal I'm mentoring. In her late twenties. Trust me she has been difficult at best. So we had a conversation. About her early April trip to Vegas she is soooo excited about. I asked her if she was aware some buffets have shut down and some shows have gone dark. She thought they would find other things to do. So I continued with the fact that our PM has discouraged any travel out of Canada and if you have you are required to self quarantine for 14 days upon your return. I asked do you have travel Insurance and will it cover this virus. She isn't sure she will have to check with her friend. I asked her what she would do if she got sick there and care is over stressed, or the U.S. Canada border closes. She is going to ask her friend. Gawd help me. It was not a very favourable review. Now she is the type I worry about infecting others/me!!!!!

Australia - The 1st time since 1919 when it was cancelled because of the Spanish Flu. This is a major interest event in NSW.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. More than 800,000 people were expected to attend the 12-day event, due to run from April 3 to 14.
The NSW Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall said he was devastated the show had been called off.

"It's truly heartbreaking for everyone involved and another bitter blow on top of a rough 12 months of drought and bushfires," Mr Marshall said in a statement.

"Farmers have been doing it hard, whether it be dealing with the impacts of drought, bushfires, or in many cases both. "The show is a rare opportunity for farmers to come together, celebrate all that is great about agriculture and share what they do with the city."
Sydney Royal Easter Show cancelled for the first time since 1919

NYC St. Patrick's Day parade is also cancelled. I don't know how many times I attended with family and friends growing up, taking the train to the city. It is not a 12-day event as Australia's, so much planning goes into both events. What a shame!

This is the first time the parade date has been disrupted since its inception in 1762

The celebration was first held on March 17, 1762, 14 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and over the decades it has transformed into a freewheeling festival of Irish heritage that draws revelers of every race and ethnicity.

New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the largest such celebration in the world, was postponed late Wednesday over concerns about the spread of the coronavirus, the first time in more than 250 years that the event will not go on as planned.

That history weighed heavily on parade organizers and other Irish-American leaders, who agonized over breaking with more than two centuries of tradition even as celebrations in other cities were scrapped.

The announcement, made in a statement by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and parade organizers, followed the cancellation of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Chicago and Boston. Ireland on Monday canceled all parades nationwide.

They came to an agreement and should be in place next week. This is not FLMA. Instead incredible actions by our Government to take care of the citizens that make the wheels turn here :)

GOD BLESS THE USA!

I seriously am wondering who will be watching these kids? Both parents and single parents work. Can’t send them to the grandparents...and no one I know can miss work for very long, and some not at all. 14 days of quarantine is not going to happen for the majority either : have to get paid and keep their job. If they run out of food in the house, folks are going to shop
This is a MAJOR problem that should have been addressed by any leader who truly cared about their country.

Hopefully, there will be more concern, more talk, and more action about folks who have no sick time and no alternative to daycare.

so is she authorized to take an additional 14 days off work after her trip?

My SIL received news from a friend in W VA.
Now for a new twist on Corona Virus, my Daughter took her Daughter to the Dr today, he said he believes the reason WV isn't having any cases of the Virus is because we have already been hit with it, he believes the Flu that has passed through was the Corona Virus, because it didn't act like the Flu and took so long for people to get over. He was telling the Corona Virus started last November / December and it was only brought to the public's attention in the last month. I know I had the Flu and it took almost 4 weeks to get over it and it was like no other Flu I have ever had.

What agreement is that? The only 'agreement' so far for people who cannot work because they are sick is that they get to stay home - without pay.

If I'm wrong - and I HOPE I am - let me know.

The House has proposed a solid bill, but AFAIK it was not agreed to by the Senate.

On Monday I had jury duty with hundreds of us crammed into this courtroom. We had to sit there for hours and hours before someone came in and told us to come back on 3/18 . Well today I find out that my state is infected (one of the last three states) and that one of the people infected is from my county. Trials have all been cancelled until May. Now I am wondering if the person that has tested positive was in that cramped courtroom. This is like some science fiction movie and I am scared. It is hard to remain calm with so much unknown. Hope everyone stays safe. I just discovered this thread today. Thank Goodness.

Travis Bedford, expert on arrival of virus to the US, believes its impossible for covid19 to be in the US prior to mid January.

Bravo, I just checked the link that you have and my state now has 6. Has gone from 1 to 6 in a few hours.

Back to the jury duty, the local government should never have had all of us crammed into a courtroom to dismiss us a few hours later knowing that the corona virus was spreading like crazy. It could all have been handled with a phone call. It makes me furious that the local government was so careless.
