I just wanted to jump in here to say PLEASE don't stop taking any medications without speaking to your doctor. The risks associated with going of of your medications may be very dangerous.

Thanks. My husband takes one of the listed ACE inhibitors..It's worrisome. But all his "drugs" keep him healthy.

I think it was here in KY in the same time frame. I had what I thought was the most severe allergy prob, my allergist was perplexed, sent me to a GP, he sent me back to allergist. Ultimately I was told to use a humidifier & 3 days later I was 100% normal. I had a headache/low fever for two weeks, the headache was indescribable, like nothing I’ve ever felt. So, now I wonder. Ironically I was at the casino for several days prior to feeling ill, my friend commented “are we the only non-Asians in here” one day.
The casino was hosting a specific group of tourists during our stay.

I read that post from her friend, and the bells went off- hence my earlier post that I thought it had already run through our county. I remember how bad the headache was- nothing touched it

Did any of us ever think there would be a thread such as this? That we wouldn't have access to TP or hand bac? That our young folk have to be (hopefully) mindful of their senior loved ones?

I have to say no. I mean I knew intellectually it was possible, but did I think it would happen? Nope!

There is unpaid FMLA- requirements for applying/notifying based on employer. Unpaid. Have heard zip about which the Feds decided.

What agreement is that? The only 'agreement' so far for people who cannot work because they are sick is that they get to stay home - without pay.

The House has proposed a solid bill, but AFAIK it was not agreed to by the Senate.

Yikes guys!! Whoa, take a deep breath. Then go research. They "reached an agreement". A possible ray of sunshine in relief in this terrible situation should be appreciated, not an opportunity to bash the leaders of a wonderful country we are all lucky to live in. Yeeesh!

@Lilibet I heard a rumor that CV has reached Lake County OR. It's not on the official report yet and I just wondered if you'd heard about it?

@Auntie Cipation I checked all three local Jackson County TV station FB pages and didn’t see anything...yet. But thanks for the heads up. I will keep checking. Lake County is pretty isolated, and not on the I-5 corridor like most of the other cases, so I would be surprised. But with this virus, nothing should surprise me anymore!

Just trying to stick to facts. Where did you hear they "reached an agreement" - meaning that the House bill was approved, I'd assume?

But the whole point of the schools closure is to allow the staff and pupils time to self isolate and social distance themselves. It makes no sense whatsoever for those teachers to go off babysitting! Send them back to school if that's the case. And whilst the gesture is a kind one, America have been slow to declare a National Emergency and people reeaally need to fall into line now. X

We ordered thousands of dollars of food for our restaurant yesterday. Normal type of order.
I did call my chef and ask her to really watch her ordering.
Last night "thursday" sales were $320.00.
We sell a lot of seafood at our restaurant. Tomorrow, I'm going in to inventory and place 85% of that beautiful fresh fish into a freezer.
Our monthly lease for our restaurant is $5,200.00. I've not sent them a dime yet for this month.
I'm not even sure WHAT I'm going to send them. I have to keep my employees paid, the lights on and my food vendors paid. No food, no electricity, no employees= bankruptcy.
We've been at this location for 17 years. I told my husband this morning. "What are they going to do? Throw us out? Then what? Find another experienced restaurant to take over? Give the new tenant, if they can find one, 4 months of free rent and $20,000.00 or more in build out costs"?
All of this just sucks.
We've been planning on selling our restaurant this summer. Hubby is 73 and had major open heart surgery 1 year ago this month.
He's working double shifts 6 days a week.
His doctor told him to slow down, that he's "fresh off the table."
Neither hubby or myself have ever seen anything like this in our lives.

BTW. I was in banking for many years. The only way you can get a Small Business Loan from the Small Business Administration (SBA) is if you don't NEED one.
It's always been a big joke in the banking industry.

There's a reason why you're so freaked out by the coronavirus


Experts in the psychology of risk perception _ the study of the sometimes irrational and often emotional factors that determine what freaks us out and what doesn't _ think that in the case of the coronavirus, we actually do have more to fear than fear itself.

"The risk is real, so let's put on the record right now that this is a concern," said David Ropeik, an expert on risk perception and communication.

"The challenge is keeping your worry in perspective, so you don't do something out of worry that's bad for you all by itself."

Ropeik has lectured at Harvard on risk perception and is the author of a book about how some of us worry too much about the wrong things "How Risky Is It, Really?: Why Our Fears Don't Always Match the Facts."

He said there are a number of psychological reasons why the coronavirus crisis is triggering our fears a lot more than the flu, even though the flu, at least so far, has killed thousands of more Americans than the coronavirus.

First of all, it's new.

"When something is new, we don't know all of what we need to know to protect ourselves, and that feels like powerlessness. And that's what makes it scary," Ropeik said.
