The kids are out for a month. We have been putting off shopping. I went tonight after work. It was crazy. I found a lot of good stuff though. It made me very sad though because I know many people cant afford to stock up. Seeing little kids, a fear in their eyes. I feel lucky that i can.

Russia rushes to copy China and build new coronavirus hospital

Just 34 cases in Russia? That can’t be right surely.

More on the coronavirus legislation:

Both leaders made clear that the legislation agreed to Friday would be followed by further relief measures as the coronavirus wallops all sectors of the economy and American life. That could, potentially, include some version of the broad payroll tax cut sought by the president. Already last week Congress passed an $8.3 billion emergency spending bill to address public health aspects of the pandemic, but as the crisis spiraled lawmakers felt they needed to act quickly to provide economic relief to affected Americans.
............
The agreement reached Friday is primarily aimed at expanding the safety net to cope with the potentially catastrophic economic impact of the coronavirus. In addition to ensuring free coronavirus testing, the plan would dramatically increase several benefits, particularly family medical leave and paid sick leave, while also bolstering unemployment insurance; spending on health insurance for the poor; and food programs for children and the elderly.

My husband. Who is a very smart man. Tells me that there is more to this story.
He tells me that there is no way, our entire world would go on lockdown with the information we've been given.
I cannot argue with him. Nearly everything makes no sense.
Why does China still have 50 million on lockdown nearly 3 months later?
I'm very worried that our leaders know worse news then they are willing to share with the general public.
Just the news so far has caused panic.
I truly hope that I am not overreacting.

Kali - I have similar thoughts as you and your husband. This just seems so far out to me; is there something more they aren't telling us? My husband and my brother think I am overreacting, but they think that way and I think differently, I guess. Something just doesn't seem to be adding up to me. Anyway, just MOO. I hope we all come out of this whatever okay. Katt

That's if you believe China, North Korea, And Iran.
I just do not believe what these countries post or say.
Every single one of these countries are Proven liars.
Do a google search, or any search.
These are countries that are willing to do horrific things to truth tellers.
You cannot trust any of these countries to tell the truth.
Decades of lies and deceit is their history.

Not sure what you mean by "toll" -- but if you mean a lot of people will have a crappy flu-like illness for a week, I agree. If you mean by "toll" that people will die, I see absolutely no support for that anywhere. The mortality rate is not increasing astronomically. If anything, it will decrease with more testing. There are ~5000 deaths worldwide after way more than a month or two and the number is NOT increasing exponentially.

I saw this online and thought it was a very good idea. It is a slip you can print out to put your name and phone number on to give to vulnerable neighbours in your community like the elderly or disabled, who might need help in this crisis.

Our county is delivering meals to students starting Tuesday. A bus will drop off sack breakfasts and lunches. Our city schools are providing meals at several pick up locations. Churches are gathering donations for the elderly.

I had to make hand sanitizer for our family because you can't find it anywhere. I bought a big 4 pack of Lysol wipes weeks ago to clean the grandkids' toys and thankfully had 2 containers left. One for us and one for my mom.

I was at the DDS this morning when a man sneezed. The lady at the counter yelled and grabbed a can of Lysol.

This is all random and I just started reading this thread today so I'm sure it's all old news to you guys, but I'm just a little freaked out and wanted to talk about it.

The world is going on lockdown in many areas because of the mathematical projections of what can happen without Non Pharmaceutical Interventions, NPIs, we all are doing. Because the worlds population is 7,770,631,490 and as a pandemic without a vaccine yet, no immunity, and no treatments at this time (which may never come to low healthcare countries when folks have ARDS etc...During the Spanish flu, for instance, the death rate ranged from less than 1 percent in some areas to 90 percent in one Alaskan village.)... We posted many of those projections on the first 2 threads.

It is worrisome indeed, and the reason for the lockdowns, NPI's and global education and alarm.

Put the numbers together with a disease that has an R0 of ~4% (without social distancing and other NPI's that China and other folks are doing with isolation/shutdowns) would require 75% of the population to become infected to reach herd immunity. So, eventually that would mean those 20% infected would need hospitalization eventually. Scientists don't think we may get to that and we won't reach those numbers when a vaccine is created, yet until then...it will potentially grow in exponential waves that we try to push back with NPIs.

Here is a good read... Covid-19 Is Nothing Like the Spanish Flu
Also, read up on herd immunity vs. R0 at What is Herd Immunity?

In above, in leiu of vacine immunity - assume immunity due to already had the disease. GAWD forbid if this virus doesn't give lasting immunity with IGg and IGm antibodies!

It’s nice to hear what you and your community are doing @FlossyMay. It isn’t actually old news because every day it’s something new to absorb and deal with. We’re all in this together, so welcome. :) Talking about it is how we cope. We’ve never been through anything like this before, so we’re sort of muddling along, doing our best to listen to the scientists and filter out information that contradicts them. Dr Tony Fauci is my hero and the one I trust the most. And of course the CDC has good info for all types of situations. One day at a time.

Thank you Kensie.
We all, work hard.
Amazingly, we had a decent night.
Not, great, but not horrible.
We're a bit of a gathering place around here.

Good luck Kali with your restaurant. I hope things go well for you. It sounds like a nice restaurant.

Thanks for posting the text of H.R. 6201 @Elley Mae. My eyes are too tired to do more than scroll through it, but I am struck by the detail involved in putting this bill together...and creating something that would have bipartisan support. Those in the House who worked on this have obviously put hours of thought and work into it. Everyone who voted on it would have read it (I hope) and understood it. And there is more legislation in the works. Do they ever sleep?!

Strange. I just received a 'We are hiring, Immediate Openings Available' email from Ralphs (grocery store). I'm a member so I do receive their advertisement email time to time but this out of the blue email makes me wonder if their employees are quitting fast due to Coronavirus worries.

I remind myself of the folks behind the talking heads (staffers) that work for them and that they do most of the work.

I have followed many threads and cases on WS and this is the first one where I see no attempt by posters to put a disclaimer on their posts, ie: IMO (In My Opinion), JMO (Just My Opinion)

So many posters are putting information on here that is not verified. This just contributes to the hysteria and the panic.

Yes, I was definitely including them in my admiration. There is no way Representatives or Senators could do all this on their own without their support. It’s a monumental job.

BREAKING NEWS: All Apple stores across the world close for two weeks to fight coronavirus pandemic

Apple will close all of its stores across the world for the next two weeks, but it will keep its doors open in Chinawhere it has just reopened.

Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, made the announcement on Twitter early Saturday morning, saying that the measures will help prevent the spread of coronavirus. The stores will close immediately, and will not reopen until March 27.
