Chaotic scenes as panic buyers swamp supermarkets

i seem to only post grocery posts but ok lets roll with it

today was insane, we went to Aldi to get the last couple of things we need, its our local one about 500 meters from our house and we go there often, i have never ever in 2 years since its opened ever seen the car park more than 1/4 full even at christmas or on saturdays

today it was completly full with no free spaces had to go around and around until someone left, and inside was just as bad luckily they have fast scanning, the line was all the way to the back wall

this article i posted above says it was like that everywhere today at all supermarkets, i mean i went out yesterday to a big mall and i thought that was crazy but today was even worse

how are people still buying stuff, i mean hasn't everyone got what they need yet!! everyone in front of us had $100+ totals and we have $23 because thats all we needed, people have gone nuts i am declaring it now officially

Agreeing completely with this and quoting because I am spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about groceries.
I have my regular weekly online supermarket deliveries booked for the next month. This isn’t unusual for me - I work from home quite a lot (the office is in Glasgow and I am in London) and this way of shopping is convenient for me and means I can bulk order the necessary cat food and litter. What I’ve noticed since this started - the App and site are so busy they are buckling under the strain. In-person shopping is not pleasant, with empty shelves and plenty of people hoarding (whhhhhhy does anyone need multiple multi-packs of TP).
Again, this is one of those posts where I’m not sure I have a point but I need to brain dump.
A friend of mine said this morning that this situation is like a disaster movie and ‘we are ten minutes in to a three hour film’. I’ve felt unnerved ever since.
Stay safe, Sleuthers ❤️

I grew up without toilet paper, but now I want the darn thing! Once you get accustomed to comforts, you don't to lose them.

Editorial: Colorado, do your part to help slow COVID-19

BBM:
“”We’re all in this together, and we’re going to get through this together. And I know that it can be difficult and it can seem surreal, but leadership means telling the truth,” Gov. Jared Polis said on Friday in a public address moments before he announced a ban on all gatherings of more than 250 people. “It’s critical that we prevent the overload of our health systems if we are going to avoid widespread devastation.””

Colorado health officials turn people away from drive-thru COVID-19 testing as state struggles to meet demand
Mar 12, 2020 / 10:56 PM

“DENVER (KDVR) — Experts warn more tests are needed across the country to appropriately contain the COVID-19 pandemic. As Colorado waits for more testing kits from the federal government, health officials are concerned about meeting current and future needs for testing.

The demand outside the state laboratory in Denver’s Lowry neighborhood was so great Thursday, state officials were forced to turn people away.

In Colorado and across the country, the capability to test isn’t meeting the public demand. Other countries have made testing available on a larger scale, according to worldwide statistics and criteria for testing abroad.”

WASHINGTON, March 13 (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Friday that it will halt, with some exceptions, all domestic travel for service members, Defense Department civilians and their families in a move aimed at limiting the spread of coronavirus and its impact on the military.

Reuters: The move, which goes further than previous restrictions on international travel, highlights the degree to which the U.S. military...is concerned and the lengths it is willing to take to protect the more than a million active-duty troops around the world.

Why New York's public schools remain open as coronavirus outbreak deepens
By not closing schools, students are "putting themselves and others at risk of exposure and increasing the likelihood of bringing exposure into their homes," a teachers union leader said.

“Eight states and several large school districts, including those in Los Angeles and San Diego, have closed public classrooms for at least the next two weeks because of the widening coronavirus outbreak, but the nation's largest district — New York City — and the rest of New York State have yet to pull the trigger.”

ANYONE CAN ORDER #COVID19 test directly from @UWVirology, with a medical order. Wow. Thank you! Because I just tried to order one as a test run from my local doctor and health Dept and it was IMPOSSIBLE. This will save lives! Kudos to @UW and university scientists!!

SAVE LIVES....STAY HOME

Test or no test, if you've got fever or cough, stay home until you're well and if you're well, stay home and avoid non-essential contact with others. It will save lives. Really.

Those chart show that not everybody has a fever. So using that as a criteria for testing is not exactly a smart idea.
