Now would be a good time for the US to plan to use military resources in our country to construct additional facilities to support the existing hospitals. I know we're not as equipped as China in this undertaking (building actual hospitals in days or weeks) but surely we have the necessary tents, equipment and organizational skills to get this in the works sooner, rather than later? IMO

Vallance says this is a brand new disease. The experts need to learn as they are going along.

He says the seven-day advice stays. If someone lives alone and gets a fever or a persistent cough, they should stay at home for seven days.

But if they live with other people, the government is now advising the whole household to isolate for seven days.

BBM. They said 14 days earlier. Confusing.

He said 14 days if it's the whole family in isolation - 7 days for the first person, then an extra 7 in case it's spread to the others.

I need a glass of wine.
Just thinking the same thing.

I don't drink but I do have two bottles in my garage frig. I might just pop one open before this is all over.

No contact but she did acknowledge that I was right for the past 2 months....I would have taken great satisfaction in that had it not been such a tragedy.
I guess the best we can take from it is that the young adults that didn't listen in the beginning may now be seeing the light. Even if it's late, it's better than nothing.

I'm heartened to see the governors step up and make difficult decisions to save lives. IMO
Our governors are turning out to be bigger heroes than I knew. Mine, is anyway. :)

Anyone listening to the BC update? Dr. Henry just announced 3 more deaths, I was hoping I misheard because I was a bit late to logon but Minister Dix confirmed. Total now 4 in Canada.

I need a bottle!

I've been using so much alcohol-based hand sanitizer that I think I may have caught a buzz. I accidentally got some in my nose the other day, and that was quite a surprise! ;)

The people on the stage/podium are in denial, did any one of those running this government warn people about social distancing - NO, except the great Dr. Fauci, who wasn't at the press conference yesterday.

I recall seeing Dr. Fauci at the WH press conference, are you sure he wasn't there with the rest of the team?
Alberta

State of emergency. Number of cases is 56. City run facilities are closed. Community transmission a fact. Rec centres and library closed. Transit, shelters, and grocery stores open. Casinos are open. Businesses are closing. Work places are encouraged to support work-from-home. All classes canceled until the end of the school year, staff still working. Child care closed.

Truck drivers exempt from quarantine, unlike cross borders travellers who are asked to self-isolate for 14 days. Important to keep supply chain open.

Post-secondary students told to clear out all their belongings by the end of the week.

Two patients in intensive care - both travellers in their 60s.

Talked to my brother last night, he lives in Edmonton. He is the VP of logistics for a company that transports goods and needs to work so that the supply chain stays open. He is very worried for his truck drivers - and his own family.

Public health experts agree that Americans need to stay home as much as possible, but the Trump administration has not yet issued clear guidance to federal workers.
Millions of Federal Workers Still Waiting on Work-From-Home Order During Coronavirus Pandemic — ProPublica

STAY HOME, SAVE LIVES
I would think it's going to be dependent on what type of Federal office it is. How vital the work is on a daily basis? Is it work that can be done online from home?
If not, how do they set it up so workers can safely continue necessary jobs? I doubt there is a "one size fits all" answer for this situation.

Grateful to the NJ governor telling everyone to stop believing people who say it's not real. "To the folks who think it isn't real? I'm telling you - it's real."

I worry about pregnant women. In a couple of months when hospitals are overrunwith coronavirus patients will they tell low risk (or, God forbid, all) women to birth at home? Should there be emergency online midwife classes?
I see birthing centers opening in satellite surgical facilities when all elective surgeries are cancelled.

You may high-five yourself as long as you wash your hands afterwards :D

I left my computer for about an hour and am now several pages behind. I assembled the lamb, vegetable, and gravy part of Shepherd's Pie and will refrigerate overnight. I'll cook and mash potatoes tomorrow, spread them on top the meat mixture, top with Irish cheddar cheese, and dot with butter so it browns nicely :)

Even if I miss many posts and the information that you are sharing about your local communities, I sincerely appreciate all the resources that you are providing for Websleuths members, and, hopefully, non-members who are following this awesome discussion.
You need to stop teasing us and post the dang recipe. :p:p
