DH just got back from our local Vons; he left around 9:35 a.m. (This is So. Cal.)

No lines of people waiting to get into the store. Most people were decent, according to him.

No paper towel nor hand sanitizer. He was able to purchase two Kleenex boxes, bread, some red meat, fruit and vegetables, dish-washing detergent, eggs, milk and orange juice. Thankfully, they had my two favorite brands of apples. The fruits and vegetables were somewhat picked over. They were out of Mountain Dew (DH's drink of choice).

We had to "settle" for generic brown sugar, which is hardly a sacrifice. The meat counter was closed, but he was able to get deli meats, such as ham.

Our neighbor shops at Sam's Club, and he indicated it was nuts Saturday. He went back Sunday, and things were better.

Our governors are turning out to be bigger heroes than I knew. Mine, is anyway. :)
I don't know your location and that's fine :) .. but in NY according to gov. Cuomo, it sounds like there's going to be an 8pm curfew effective immediately !
Wow.
People wanting to 'eat out/in' will have to order their food and drinks before that time.

I thought there was a Mike Pence presser at 2:30 EST today. Am I mixed up, did it get cancelled, did media chose not to cover it?

Was really hoping to hear something in the national level, my governor is pretty silent.

Confused in VA....

Coronavirus: 53 people have now died in UK after testing positive for COVID-19

The announcement means that 18 people had died in a 24-hour period after being tested positive for COVID-19.

A total of 53 people in the UK have now died after testing positive for the coronavirus, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said.

This is a rise of 18 deaths in a 24-hour period.

Making the announcement in the House of Commons, Health Secretary Matt Hancock called the coronavirus pandemic "the most serious public health emergency that our nation has faced for a generation"

YES. This is a fantastic news conference and I think all of the US should be listening to this.

It's so......refreshingly frank, objective, intelligent, and very very calm.
Governor Cuomo (NY) makes me feel better too. An actual take-charge, proactive man. IMO

ETA In collaboration with governors of NJ and CT.

Canada closing border to all who are non-citizens or permanent residents.
There is RF living in Canada, I wonder how that will work . Unless they got quick visas under the table... JMO

Oh my.

Maybe they could don Hazmat suits or dress in the outfits worn by the 'nurses' in the "Silent Hill" movie ?
Might affect the 'ambience', though...

Coronaporn The Movie: starring Diva McFever and Randy Coughcock. Coming soon to an empty cinema near you!

Well, that's not so thrilling...and yes, he's my guy. Hopefully it helps. I worry so much about shut-ins and homeless people and people/pets living with DV in their family lives. Basically anyone who isn't lucky enough to have a home and a sane, loving family.

Is anyone else getting in some gardening?

I've been taking advantage of the nice weather and getting some outside prep in. The birds are blissfully unaware of social distancing :p they're singing their hearts out and pairing off. I'll be planting some radish, lettuce, spinach, kale and carrot today. Extra thankful for these seeds and soil this year! The mint is coming in strong... now we just need limes and rum. ;)

I'm double posting this, as of now I have listened to and answers/questions many have asked here such as @gitana1 .. sorry I don't remember others. Information as to folks that are on ACE inhibitors (folks on this thread I'm assuming know what ACE relevance is... )

This is VERY technical today... I had to listen twice today, but for folks who have asthma and ACE inhibitors like @gitana1 , perhaps y''all can understand and update us. I'm off to listen to this for the third time.. as I'm kinda lost.. but he and others have talked about this since January when we were on thread #2.

Except for the Americans, atm, Canada and US integrally connected.

True.

It worries me even more as to how many are coming through our southern border undetected as well.

The Border Patrol is already overworked even before this devastating virus struck us. Every federal, state, and local agency seems overworked, including our health care workers since many of them are now seriously ill themselves with the virus. :(

More than ever before we need to know who is entering our country, whether illegally or legally, and which country they came from.

If not, they are infiltrating our country unknown to any of us where it will keep this virus spreading throughout giving it to more, and more people. :(

What is equally appalling is how many people refuses to socially distance themselves. How could they be so ignorant, uncaring, and self absorbed?

Not only does it protect them, but they probably come in contact with many citizens each day. It seems many refuse to even use their common sense, and refuse to sacrifice anything for anyone else either.
I'm sure many think they are 10 foot tall, and bullet proof, but they aren't. We have seen younger adults in very serious condition or have even passed away.

It's so disheartening as to how many are doing everything that's been recommended we all do, but then so many refuses. It really undoes what many are doing right.

I truly dont understand it. To overcome this everyone must be all inline with everyone else in each county, and state. It truly is a situation of united we stand, and devided we fall crisis for our beloved citizens/nation.

Jmhoo tho

Sturgeon tells Scotland 'life will change significantly'

Coronavirus: Sturgeon tells Scotland 'life will change significantly'

Nicola Sturgeon has warned that life will change "significantly" in Scotland due to stringent new coronavirus measures.

The first minister said "we will get through this" as she reiterated the need for every citizen to reduce all non-essential social contact.

Households have been told to self-isolate for 14 days if one member has symptoms - either a new cough or fever.

There are now 171 cases of the virus in Scotland, up 18 since Sunday.

But the Scottish government cautioned that an apparent slowing in the rate of increase may be due to a change in the testing system.

Scotland's chief medical officer said she now expected cases to double every five days and warned the UK was "on the cusp" of a rapid acceleration in cases.

New measures announced on Monday include:

  • Stop all non-essential social contact and stop going to places with a high concentration of people such as pubs or cinemas
  • Avoid using public transport as much as possible
  • Avoiding all social contact is particularly important for people over 70, for pregnant women and for those with some health conditions
  • Work from home if you can
  • Anyone living in a household with somebody who has either a persistent cough or fever must now also isolate themselves for 14 days
  • Very vulnerable people with compromised immune systems - estimated to be around 200,000 in Scotland - will be asked to self-isolate for a "period of weeks or months"
Ms Sturgeon said that the latest measures would "significantly change life as we know it for a considerable period of time".

She continued: "I am acutely aware of the anxiety people will feel right now.

"We are all in this together. If we do the right things and all follow the advice being given, we can get through this and we will get through this."

I'm taking a break from TV news. I'm reading local news, NBC, and NYT. I never get tired of Triple D reruns on Food Network, and there is a marathon of hour-long compilation episodes on today. TV news is depressing :(
