I have seen people talking about trying to buy gift cards/certificates from your favorite restaurants during this time to help keep them afloat. This is a good idea if you are someone who can afford to do this.

It feels much more real now that other countries are closing down. I had some errands to run today. And I will say Italians in my city are doing a great job at keeping one meter away from each other. I had to wait in line for almost 30 minutes to get into the grocery store. They limit the amount inside to maybe 4. We were all spaced out the 3-5 feet. But I will tell you. One does not want to forget anything they might need. When I came out the line had tripled in size.

Nothing new. We are just inside making the most of it. My kids just started the 4 th week of online school. It's tough seeing friends in the states starting to go through what we have done already. But things will work out.

Keep posting! Your observations are fascinating and very inspiring. Thank you so much for taking the time to update us!

And my best to your family and your friends

Sigh. I had to delete three friends from SM as they were spreading conspiracy theories. I can't have stupid people in my life.

At a minimum I would hope her husband could be tested (and be SARS-CoV-2 negative) so he can be there for the birth. I just can't understand banning a woman's support person during birth

Unfortunately I don't see that happening any time in the foreseeable future. They're having a hard time getting enough tests for symptomatic and hospitalized folks.

OK, I'm ready. Grocery stores have plenty. Easter eggs for breakfast. Chocolate for lunch. Jelly beans for supper. Too bad the GS thin mints are gone.

I didn’t get any details, but I’m assuming they’ll have places to “sleep” when needed during the long shift run. But just a guess.

During the last hurricane in SC, the hospital my daughter works at made it mandatory for nurses scheduled from the time evacuation orders took effect to sleep at the hospital. They were provided cots to sleep on in one of the waiting rooms. They were provided a meal during the shift of a sandwich, bag of chips, juice drink and bagged apple slices.

You guys, Italy’s numbers are looking really bad. We need to focus on social distancing. This is really scary. I’m freaking out. I’ve been pretty scared since news came out of China, but I’m thinking Italy may be the first to report accurate figures.

Have we seen reports on ages of those testing positive and those in critical care out of Italy?

Dang....what a low that people would listen to advise from Ben Affleck and Arnold Scwarzenegger over Scientists and Doctors to isolate. Heck, these 2 can't even manage their own lives......

Stepping down....

In other news, I have a day off! I booked it months ago, then completely forgot about it - don’t even know why I booked it to begin with.
So, it’s an unexpected Self-Care Monday here, hunkered down with the cats.
I have a spiced lentil soup in the slow cooker, I’ve hauled all the veggies out of the fridge and will make a big veggie curry later - I can freeze that for meals later on. What am I going to do with two eggplants? Ideas? I don’t even like eggplants.
The sun is shining, so a little later I’ll make a coffee and take the boys into the garden. I plan to thin out the tomato seedlings and replant both them and the cucumber seedlings.
Just - as I said yesterday - recognising those moments of happiness and grabbing hold of them. Tightly.

eggplants can be diced up small bite-sized chunks and hidden a yummy stir-fry with chicken, zucchini and lots of ginger sauce.

The economic impact out here is going to be tremendous.

Yes it will. I see some posts that mentions the stock market as if it only affects the very rich which is so untrue.

Iirc, 150 million have 401k and pension plans. These arent rich people, but those who have worked hard all of their adult lives.

It greatly affects those who have retired or those who are planning to retire soon.

My husband, and I both have retirement 401k plans. We have set aside money for decades in order to be secure now we're both retired. What we have lost already is terrifying for those our age. We are not becoming hysterical though, and cashing in. We know this too will pass in time so we must not panic.

FYI I ran to get my dogs her med, I passed by WMT, busier than ever. I hope they stocked because at 6:30 a.m., they had nothing except gluten free & cauliflower based veggies, plastic eggs, candy & dog food.
