Wow. I’m not in the US but these sound like small, independent eateries rather than big chains? Bless them for doing this when they’ll be struggling and worried already.

It’d be nice to hear similar offers from some of the huge international restaurants who can afford it from their $£millions of profits.

Concerned... Very active adult. I am past the age group. Just got over two bouts of pneumonia - Jan/Feb. Fell 13 days ago on my bike when my skinny tires hit mud under a shadowy bridge. No breaks, just pain. Using a walker and a sometimes wheel chair that Hubby has been pushing around - 4 miles today. But, I am in "the group." Concerned.

Dr. Ian Lipkin an epidemiologist from Columbia University said on Rachel Maddow (MSNBC) that the whole country should do what the SF Bay Area is doing...shelter in place NOW. He believes that the federal government can do this...if it wants to.

The NJSIAA announced Monday night it still has hopes of having a spring sports season.

The decision comes in the wake of announcements Monday by Gov. Phil Murphy of a 8 p.m.-5 a.m curfew and the shuttering of all schools that were not already closed beginning Wednesday.

"There will be no interscholastic athletic competition until schools reopen. When they do, the NJSIAA will make every effort to take advantage of whatever part of the spring sports season remains, including holding championships,'' the NJSIAA said in a statement. "The NJSIAA remains committed to providing student-athletes as many opportunities as possible.

The closure of schools means extracurricular activities like athletic team practices, games and scrimmages can not take place.

Hope your pain subsides soon. There are a lot of us in "the group" or very close to in "the Group". Glad no bones were broken.

I grew up reading my grandmother's Foxfire books. I actually lived up there in Rabun County for a while. I only have a couple though. I used to check them out from the library as a kid. Of course now the libraries here are closed.

Our library is closed but will bring your books out to your car for you so that is helpful.

My husband is a psychologist. He has a private practice in a building with one other person working there with him (different offices), in a small town. He is seeing clients today, but coming home an hour early due to NJ recommended curfew at 8pm.

Though, I'd consider him to be essential services and able to stay open, I do wonder whether HE should commence phone or video counseling. That involves another set of confidentiality issues, technical knowhow and willingness of clients, according to him. And I worry about him bringing the infection back to the house.

It's a dilemma, for sure. You are correct that more people will need the benefit of counseling. Also, I consider the clients he currently has - how to just stop seeing troubled people cold turkey for an indeterminate amount of time.

Your husband's services may be sorely needed in the not too far future. My daughter in Japan tends to get depressed and has been communicating with a psychologist who's based in Hawaii. I'm not sure what app they're using. Anyway, it gives me some comfort to know she has a professional to talk to when I'm not around.

Her American friend in Kyoto has anxiety and depression but unfortunately Japan isn't a great place for counseling, especially for Westerners. Both have tried local psychologists and though they both are fluent in Japanese there are cultural differences which makes it difficult sometimes.

I hope your husband will be able to work his practice out in order to continue helping people.

Speaking of toilet paper, I checked three stores today and all meat counters are empty and the entire aisle for paper products, empty. Very concerning and really hitting home.
No bleach, no sanitizing wipes, no disinfectant wipes or hand sanitizer either. No anti-bacterial soap except for two packs of three bars each of Dial soap I found that had fallen behind the face soap.

Sam's has some bleach and bleach products left that can be shipped.

My local West Texas school district will be delivering breakfasts and also lunches to the grounds of about 15 area schools starting tomorrow Monday- Saturday until this school closing is over. Any parent or child can pick them up for free, at any school.....I am so glad they are doing this.....moo
