Well, San Diego did it. All restaurants to close for All but, takeout and delivery. Yes, we have to layoff.
I rarely take a paycheck (many self employed cannot). We're a very small biz with only 1 full time chef, other then hubby and me who work about 70 hours a week. Our other employees are part-time.
I immediately this morning contacted our payroll company to put me on payroll.
Why? Because, if we close, I can eventually collect unemployment.
It will be a small amount, but we've been paying into the unemployment fund for over 30 years. We've had maybe 2 layoffs in that time through the great recession.
So, our business has a healthy amount for unemployment benefits.
My hubby owns the biz, and I have been an unpaid employee.
This is legal. He has the right to pay me a salary.
It will be a pretty small amount. But, could help us finance a small RV if we need to leave.
This is ALL craziness.
I appreciate the early posters on this thread who made my antenna go up in the middle of February.
I paid attention, and I'm so glad I did.
Although I'm so stressed out that I have no appetite, I know that I have food for my doggers.
Honestly, the USA is going to have to release money to her citizens.***
Soon.
I do think that this will happen.
Sooner, versus later is best.
Bless and keep you and yours all well, on here. You have always been special and caring people.
Kali in So. Cal...

I live in the area. I'm so sorry you're seeing your hard work fall apart because of a virus. KALI, smart to go for some UE benefits yourself. I think with some brain storming you can turn this situation around in your favor. I imagine advertisements with deals if you order so many meals delivered. Maybe one delivery gives them a freezer half full of meals. There's still going to be people who can't get out to shop for foods and don't want to cook. Or maybe court some bigger corporations (flood them with coupons) to deliver their lunches. There's still money in town, and a lot of bio tech companies working long hours. I know your rent is high, but there might be people with enough money to order your great, clean meals. KALI, it's going to be okay, which ever way it goes. Please believe in prayer because I, and many of us, are going to be praying for good things to come your way.

Coronavirus: Mexico may consider border-crossing limits

Evidently, Mexico wants to ensure that people who cross the border, from the United States, into Mexico, are legally admitted and inspected prior to entering Mexico.

Mexico would like to ensure border integrity and security. This is a commendable response, as they want to protect their citizens. I hope that Mexico is able to keep the virus out of their country.

It’s there too. But do we know the numbers?

What's happening where I work is that the directive from the top was first that people could work from home if they had to make childcare arrangements, then the message was that high risk people could work from home, then the message was that if people made the decision to work from home they should get permission from the boss. That's where there's a breakdown. The middle management are silly giddy about this exciting time, and they are not thinking straight so they tell everyone to come to work no matter what, even thought the uber boss says something different.

I'm working from home as of today going forward, but people who are not restricted by childcare or high risk are expected to show up to work.

This morning we received an email from a colleague who sat next to me at a meeting on Friday that she is sick with a bad sore throat. That's how it starts.

Common sense is missing.

I’m so glad to see this. I think every city should make it mandatory.
Love this! What confuses me, is that today I had to go to the grocery store to pick up my medically fragile daughter's medications. I ask asked three senior citizens if they needed help; now or in the future and each one gave me a crusty, angry reply as if I was being rude to ask. I don't know what to make of that.

Edited by me.. god Lord, auto correct is so wrong!

Colorado coronavirus cases rise amid escalating efforts to stop spread
Tests have been performed on more than 1,200 people

TDP-L-CORONA-TEST-SITE_JAC5709x.jpg

Andy Cross, The Denver Post
Colorado National Guard members assist the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment during a free, drive-up testing site for coronavirus in the parking lot of the Denver Coliseum March 14, 2020.

“With 27 new cases, Colorado’s confirmed novel coronavirus cases rose to 160 on Monday as local and state officials escalated measures to try to stymie the virus’ reach.

BBM:
But that number is likely still just a small portion of those infected. “In all likelihood there are hundreds, most likely thousands, of Coloradans who have coronavirus,” Gov. Jared Polis said Friday.

The rapid spread of COVID-19, the highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus, has exceeded the state’s ability to test for it, Scott Bookman, incident commander for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, said Monday. Tests for about 1,216 people have been run at the state lab.”

No, of course we don't. There are not enough tests and many of those that are sick are not going to be tested. The numbers released to the public are all screwed...the best way to combat this is to assume everyone you see is infected. Not to be painicked, but just to be reasonable.edited by myself..I did not mean to say "screwed", I tried to type skewed .

There are two mutations of virus that I've read about, the China version and a mutation that is in the EU. People of all ages get sick, some recover, some don't. Children appear to be more resilient, but they can still get very sick. There are mortality rates for children, it's just very low.

It’s terrifying. I’m so sorry this is happening to you.

Feeling fear myself. I’m self-employed and don’t have payroll. We have independent contractors to assist that we can still 1099 per the new laws. (Translator for example).

If I can’t go to court I’m going to lose business. But I feel I will be risking my life to work until a vaccine is ready.

I’m very worried.

It’s very scary.

On a lighter note, here's how people are coping with social distancing, quarantine
The neighborhood "social distancing happy hour" was probably the best thing we saw – but baking, crafts and pets are great ideas, too!

“COLORADO, USA — It's an unprecedented time in the world, the U.S. and even in Colorado right now as we all grapple with COVID-19.

But if there's one thing, it's that we're all in this together.

OK, we're in this alone, technically – so we're alone together?

Anyway, we asked what you all are doing to cope with social distancing and quarantine. This is what we found out:”

Yes! I was wondering about Mexico. Are they testing? BRB.
No, they are not. This is not about being infected..because the most of us will be just fine, the issue is that those of us who are not will inundate our medical facilities.

I’ve seen that. I believe it’s deep fear-based denial. And misinformation and minimization of this by too many from the beginning.

Please, watch Pandemic on Netflix...it will help you learn what is happening. If that is not helpful, I have more "dry" and boring shows, but the facts are clearly stated.

I had not thought to share this idea but
I have been spraying my shoes with rubbing alcohol when I get home and leaving them on the porch.

I am thinking that I need to leave my shoes outside. All that sidewalk spraying means something. That was a serious effort in China and Italy to stop the virus.

No, because of the poor health care system, I doubt that there is any type of comprehensive testing being done there.

So, a few cases are identified. But not the total amount of cases.
