Assume th
No, they are not. This is not about being infected..because the most of us will be just fine, the issue is that those of us who are not will inundate our medical facilities.

Yes. Because those who don’t know they have it and/or think it’s a mild cold insist on bar hopping or going to shows or whatever.

This man is the BEST!
Interesting update on Plaquenil. He said the NIH pulled the article today on the efficacy of the drug and he’s never seen that in 30 years.
Bottom line- take your zinc, multivitamin and melatonin.
He said take melatonin? I knew about the zinc and other vitamins. But why melatonin?

“Meanwhile, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announced in a press release today that it is working in four Italian hospitals, where shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) have left many healthcare workers exposed to the virus. About 1,700 healthcare workers (8% of the total cases in Italy) are now infected, and some have died.

"Even in high-level European hospitals, we see health workers are overwhelmed, coping with up to 80 ambulances per day, with dramatic shortages of protective equipment that puts them at great risk," said Claudia Lodesani, MD, MSF president in Italy. "Some doctors are forced to wear the same face mask for 12 hours."

Lessons from the front lines
The Lombardy doctors said that two major measures may have alleviated the severe stress the outbreak has placed on the region's health systems: an immediate increase in COVID-19 lab testing and creation of a large facility just for infected patients. But more must be done to quell the pressure. "Importantly, the forecasts show that increasing ICU capacity is simply not enough," they said. "More resources should be invested to contain the epidemic."

Their experience, they wrote, suggests that healthcare systems not organized in collaborative emergency networks should create one and that strict enforcement of community quarantines is needed. "In practice, the health care system cannot sustain an uncontrolled outbreak, and stronger containment measures are now the only realistic option to avoid the total collapse of the ICU system," they said.”

Doctors: COVID-19 pushing Italian ICUs toward collapse

That is a staggering number of healthcare workers. So very sad.

''Melbourne scientists have discovered how the human body overcomes coronavirus in a global breakthrough hoped to fast-track treatments, vaccines and even identify those at risk of dying.

''The Doherty Institute researchers have also shown that healthy people can expect to fight off mild to moderate COVID-19 cases in three days.

For the first time the Doherty team has been able to map in detail the way a patient’s immune system responded to COVID-19, revealing the weapons it used to overcome the new killer.''

''By testing a person’s blood for the build up of coronavirus-fighting antibodies as they become ill, Prof Kedzierska said doctors may be able to identify those who cannot fight off the virus on their own and need hospitalisation and interventions.''

“SEATTLE, WA — State health officials confirmed 135 additional cases of the new coronavirus in Washington Monday afternoon, pushing the total number of lab-confirmed illnesses above 900 as the disease's death toll grew to 48.”

[...]

"”We expect the case count to double every 5-7 days unless these orders to stay away from others are followed diligently," public health officials wrote in a news release. "Already, we can expect that anyone we come into contact with may be infected because there is wide-spread infection in our community."”

Well, San Diego did it. All restaurants to close for All but, takeout and delivery. Yes, we have to layoff.
I rarely take a paycheck (many self employed cannot). We're a very small biz with only 1 full time chef, other then hubby and me who work about 70 hours a week. Our other employees are part-time.
I immediately this morning contacted our payroll company to put me on payroll.
Why? Because, if we close, I can eventually collect unemployment.
It will be a small amount, but we've been paying into the unemployment fund for over 30 years. We've had maybe 2 layoffs in that time through the great recession.
So, our business has a healthy amount for unemployment benefits.
My hubby owns the biz, and I have been an unpaid employee.
This is legal. He has the right to pay me a salary.
It will be a pretty small amount. But, could help us finance a small RV if we need to leave.
This is ALL craziness.
I appreciate the early posters on this thread who made my antenna go up in the middle of February.
I paid attention, and I'm so glad I did.
Although I'm so stressed out that I have no appetite, I know that I have food for my doggers.
Honestly, the USA is going to have to release money to her citizens.***
Soon.
I do think that this will happen.
Sooner, versus later is best.
Bless and keep you and yours all well, on here. You have always been special and caring people.
Kali in So. Cal...

All the best to you and your husband @KALI. I can tell you are survivors. It’s the same here in Oregon. Good friends of ours in town just sold their small and very popular breakfast and lunch restaurant to their long-time cook so they could retire. Knowing them, they will jump back in to help him survive. They already do a lot of take-out, so I want to order to help out. I’m sure your customers feel the same.

We were full-time RVers for over 8 years. If you end up doing it, I’m sure you’ll like it a lot. We used to spend the winters near family in San Diego at Santee Lakes campground. Loved it. And we saw a lot of the beautiful U.S. However this plays out, you have some good options. Hang in there! Hugs.

A young lady goes to a bar in Park City, Utah. The bouncer checking ID's is visibly but unknowingly sick with CV. Young lady comes home and exposes her mom. Who goes to work and exposes my SIL. Who exposes my DD. Who would have exposed me and my husband had we not completely locked ourselves down. Mom and daughter are itself quaranteened waiting on test results. Health Department says my SIL and DD are ok for the moment. They are self isolating until they know the others tests results. Should know more tomorrow.

All of us self isolating need to express to family members how important it is to not stop by and visit.

"DON'T KILL NAN, WASH YER HANDS!"

Someone shared this saying today, so I made two signs and posted them near both entry elevators in our building. There's lots of grannies here.

He can choose not to go. Call in sick (mental health day).

Oh the county shut that down. As of midnight tonight it’s a shutdown Italy style. It just bothers me how SLOOOOOW everyone was to shut it all down Wuhan style.

We should have stopped all flights from China immediately. Started a system of temperature checks at airports. Started gearing up to close schools, colleges, etc., so we would be in advance of this tidal wave. Started assembling respirators and test kits.

The San Francisco diocese shut all their schools down last week. But his stupidly kept going.

I just don’t understand how so many aren’t informed.

@KALI unemployment is based on wages reported in the first four quarters of the last five. If no wages were reported for you last year, the soonest you would have enough quarters to qualify would be quarter change in October.

That is going to be "Italy" in four weeks.

Worse. Italy has a high level health care system and a lot of safety nets in place for the populace. Mexico doesn’t.

Earlier today we said that maybe we should post our location to help others understand the bigger picture.

Alberta

A student at a post secondary campus was tested for the virus around March 9. There were 30,000 students on campus when this person contacted health services - virus contracted during travel. That building is being disinfected, but many students were in the building before that person decided to self-isolate. Those students moved through other buildings, had contact with other students.

The province has declared that post-secondary institutions are closed, but that's not true. Staff are expected to be at work, faculty are at work, and some students do not have computers so computer labs and libraries remain open.

Such a mixed message.

I am thinking that I need to leave my shoes outside. All that sidewalk spraying means something. That was a serious effort in China and Italy to stop the virus.
Brilliant idea. Look up ICU universal, precautions and follow those guidelines.

Please, watch Pandemic on Netflix...it will help you learn what is happening. If that is not helpful, I have more "dry" and boring shows, but the facts are clearly stated.

YES!! We binge-watched “Pandemic” and I’ve been singing its praises here ever since. IMO It’s a must-see for anyone who wants to understand what is going on in more depth.

I both love and detest this.
My opinion.
The borders should be closed.
Both America and Mexico's
With all sad observation.
That's really all I can say about this, except. In my 30 years plus observation. The people of Mexico, have not learned sanitation and the benefits of sanitation. Not their fault.
But it's true. IMO.
At least here.
Coronavirus: Mexico may consider border-crossing limits

Evidently, Mexico wants to ensure that people who cross the border, from the United States, into Mexico, are legally admitted and inspected prior to entering Mexico.

Mexico would like to ensure border integrity and security. This is a commendable response, as they want to protect their citizens. I hope that Mexico is able to keep the virus out of their country.

There's an unlikely benefactor of coronavirus: The planet - CNN
''Hong Kong (CNN)Factories were shuttered and streets were cleared across China's Hubei province as authorities ordered residents to stay home to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

It seems the lockdown had an unintended benefit -- blue skies.
The average number of "good quality air days" increased 21.5% in February, compared to the same period last year, according to China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
And Hubei wasn't alone.
Satellite images released by NASA and the European Space Agency show a dramatic reduction in nitrogen dioxide emissions -- those released by vehicles, power plants and industrial facilities -- in major Chinese cities between January and February. The visible cloud of toxic gas hanging over industrial powerhouses almost disappeared.''

''A similar pattern has emerged with carbon dioxide (CO2) -- released by burning fossil fuels such as coal.
From February 3 to March 1, CO2 emissions were down by at least 25% because of the measures to contain the coronavirus, according to the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), an air pollution research organization.
As the world's biggest polluter, China contributes 30% of the world's CO2 emissions annually, so the impact of this kind of drop is huge, even over a short period.''

This is a "dry" presentation, but from a very respected source, if you can bare watching it, I think it will give you the sobering truth.
https://edhub.ama-assn.org/jn-learning/video-player/18315311

God bless you all, I have to head to bed so that I have the energy to care for my medically fragile child...the bottom line is...I have to live in "survival mode" and as people discuss what to do amid the COVID 19, I am meeting with a therapist making decisions about "end of life care" for my daughter.
My biggest message would be...see this as a blessing. Never in the current American lifestyle have we been granted two, plus weeks, to spend with our families. There is nothing more dear or more important than how we love those in our lives. Hug the, kiss them, and create memories...none of us know when it might be our last moment with our loved one.
