Coronavirus: E.U. announces sweeping ban on most nonessential incoming travel
We need to do more to reduce huge pressure on our health care system,” Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president, said.

“LONDON — The European Union on Tuesday announced a sweeping 30-day ban on most nonessential travel into the 27-country bloc.

There is still a need to guarantee passage of medicine, food stamps and citizens must be able to travel to home countries, European Council President Charles Michel said.

“We are ready to do everything that is required. We will not hesitate to take additional measures as the situation evolves," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

Though it is the world's largest political and economic club, and has a combined population of some 450 million, the E.U. has limited powers in terms of what it can tell its members to do.

Its unity has frayed at different stages of the crisis, as individual states have pursued their own policies and Germany, for example, briefly banned the export of masks to beleaguered Italy.”

NO doubt in my mind Nebraska is prepared!!! They had the first biocontainment unit in the United States. These folks are top notch!!!!

Be proud you're in the Nebraskan!!!
That we are! Health care and health insurance are leading employers in Omaha. The outreach provided to rural communities in Nebraska and western Iowa is essential.

Bone marrow and stem cell transplants were pioneered here many years ago because UNMC is a leading center for the treatment of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The CDC commissioned that biocontainment unit more than a decade ago and it sure proved its worth during the Ebola crisis. There definitely needs to be more of them.

I think this is just the tip of the iceberg with regard to "positives" not following precautions. For every one that makes it in the news, I suspect probably dozens to hundreds who are doing the same thing. IMO

As of this morning, I have GIVEN UP when folks I see on my Facebook feed have and disseminate incorrect information. They see it on the tv, and want to challenge even when I give more references to butress what I'm saying. As I said a week or so ago, I want to just say the Saturday Night Live quote of "Jane, you ignorant sl*t*. Sorry, I'm just not knowing how to help even my good friends get up to speed with what *I believe* is the reality. I am now moving to just posting information on my Facebook feed. If folks want to question, I'll answer as they must be interested to even do such as they are open. But I'm going to go crazy if I try to convince others that will not understand as we do here. It makes me so sad to be dismissed.. and what MSM and others placating *all is well, under control*... I disagree with.

It's gonna give me ulcers unless I do so, and sad to not be able to help my friends as I just don't know how to.

Suggestions anyone?

It's sad to say and sounds hard....but you can't save people that don't want to be saved.

Some must learn thru experience.

O/T story and we discussed on the last hurricane threat for NC. New Bern, NC had folks living right on the Nuse River, a huge wide deep river, with terrific force, in big old southern mansions. You know the rich folks. New Bern is right before the river hits the oceans.

Well, the Governor and New Bern Mayor had mandatory evacuations and they flat out would not leave. Well, it flooded and they were last on the list to be rescued. So the Cajun Army showed up with boats to save them, the Governor told/demanded they leave under threat of arrest. Yeah, NC don't take no crap off of its citizens or outsiders in an emergency. Some folks gotta learn the hard way.

Moo...

'Highly possibly' schools could shut within days

Nicola Sturgeon has said that Scotland could see nationwide school closures within days.

The first minister appeared on Reporting Scotland before talks with Education Secretary John Swinney on measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

She said: "It is highly possible we will see a more blanket approach to school closures in the coming days."

It comes after a second person died in Scotland after becoming infected.

At present, schools in Scotland remain open, though attendance is reported to be low in some areas and most activities, clubs and trips have been cancelled.

Scotland is near and dear to my heart. Hoping they can get ahead of this and flatten the curve!

I got email notification tonight that Glasgow Club gyms are closed and are expected to be closed until the end of April. Running and home yoga for me it is !

Same in Leeds, all the city-run leisure centres are closed until at least the end of April.

Schools are still open or partially open, many offices are allowing people to work from home. Meanwhile several of the medical staff I know are being re-trained in Coronavirus treatments and practices.

Coronavirus Scottish News

NHS Lanarkshire has said all visiting times will be suspended in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

From tomorrow all hospitals and inpatient wards will see visitors banned except in limited circumstances.

Patients receiving end-of-life care or those accompanying partners during childbirth, following discussion and agreement with the senior charge nurse/midwife responsible for the clinical area or their deputy, may be allowed.

NHS Lanarkshire hospitals to suspend all visiting times

I feel so sorry for all the people in hospital right now but I understand why this is necessary. I think this action going to be a country wide in all hospitals soon.

It is good they are trying to clean things better and restock as much as possible. I just find it difficult to believe it needs to be 1/2 of a day. 11 hour downtime is practically 1/2 of a 24 hour day. Surely they could accomplish what they need to in a shorter time than that since they have each day to do more of it.

Im sorry to be critical of them but it gets frustrating when we see certain decisions that may make matters worse, and this will put a dent in people being able to get supplies when closing a grocery store down 1/2 of the time they usually are open. That seems a little on the extensive side. Maybe a 4 hour window would be enough each day for them to catch up. I hope they will adjust their hours if they find they dont need to stay closed for 11 hours each day.

I can't fault the stores At All.

Our area is hampered by a big snowstorm that stuck all the grocery and hardware supply trucks on the I-80 corridor over the weekend as the road conditions were not safe.

The staff at Costco had been working since 4 am trying to re0rganize the store and put out whatever stock they had. They closed down a lot of empty aisles and were trying to make it efficient for the customers. But they admitted there were going to be many more long hours when the supply trucks finally arrived.

I asked the checkout guy if he got to shop and he said the managment had decided to open early the next day only for the store staff so they could at least get a chance to stock up, too.

Strange times. Never dreamed that being an introvert might save lives.

If anyone finds this meme disrespectful, please PM me and I will delete. I am in no way making light of the state of the world right now, just thought some of us could use a laugh (no matter how brief).

May I also recommend nicotine patches and other things, nicotine gum, lozenges etc to have on hand for those who may freak the heck out in case they run out of cigarettes and might not be able to get any for whatever reason.

Oh NO. This is awful.

I do fear the US is going to be a smattering of Wuhan outbreaks, and it sounds like Atlanta metro area may be on it's way there

Atlanta had testing capabilities early own. Grady Hospital in Atlanta is a leading medical Center and the CDC is located there as well.

Moo....
