We, on the thread have watched this evolve from the beginning from China over a period of time. We've prepared what we can. It just hit most folks.

@Amonet started this thread on Jan 17th., a month ago exactly.

A month and its here in my town. Tears....my heart breaks.

We'll be locked down within a day or two. Its coming to a town near you and me. If the states don't communities will!! I remember the community in China, that bulldozed up the road and had armed citizens standing guard.

Georgia may have the best idea, use the state park. Wide open spaces, use temples housing, lots of land, can be completely contained/surrounded.
Moo...

I know we're in different time zones, but I'm pretty sure you're not a whole month behind?

Well ALL the newspapers are reporting what you posted but my notes say he said,
"I am suspending immediately at 5 pm today the sale of alcoholic beverages in bars and nightclubs for 30 days." A reporter later asked him if he they could sell alcohol if they took it off property and Gov. answered "Yeah, if they took it curbside."
We'll see.
Isn't it illegal to take alcohol off the premises of the bar/restaurant? I used to bartend and we were taught it was illegal to allow a customer to walk out the door with a drink or even a purchased bottle. We were not allowed to sell by the bottle because we didnt have that kind of license. It was only a 'by the drink, in house customer' license.

"Americans can expect the first checks of “at least $1,000” to go out by the end of April, if Congress approves the proposal the Administration pitched to Senate Republicans today, a senior administration official tells ABC News.

“We are looking at sending checks to Americans immediately. What we heard from hardworking Americans, many companies are now shut down whether bars or restaurants, Americans need cash now and the president wants to get [them] cash now. I mean now in the next two weeks,” Mnuchin said. "We want to make sure Americans get money in their pockets quickly," he said, adding that more details would be revealed later today.

“I think we'll do something to get money to them as quickly as possible,” Trump said.

A second check would go out two months later – if the national emergency continued.

I've been watching the Dublin earthcam that is set in downtown area with all the well known bars - of all days... it's empty and I am impressed.
LIVE NOW! Dublin Cam

Edit: that cam is fun to watch on any normal night - all sorts of hijinx at all hours!

My husband loves to watch live cams. He watches Times Square, Bourbon Street, some pub in Ireland and more. The first two have been really sparse. I imagine “his” pub is too.

Australians told to stop HUGGING: Chief medical officer urges people to implement social distancing and stop touching each other to stop spread of deadly coronavirus

its a favorite past time, just randomly hugging people im glad they've clamped down on all the random hugging we do

the is quite a bizarre thing for them to say, almost as if they are getting community reports stating all Australians are engaged in hugging strangers and it needs to stop!

we have a weird country sometimes and an even stranger PM who refuses to shut things down

Oh, it all sounds yummy! We're foregoing our St. Patrick's day meal and instead I'm making coconut shrimp for the first time, following a recipe from Food Network. Wish me luck ;) as we're using pre-frozen shrimp that is smaller than our normal favorite brand and I'm only doing a dozen. We'll have it with some fresh asparagus and GABA rice which is sprouted brown rice. I'm just using some Thai sweet chili sauce for dipping. If I don't mess it up it should be a fun dinner for a dreary day.

To make up for it hubby and I will play some of our favorite Irish jigs and reels after, he on flute, mandolin and guitar and me on fiddle. Not the same as the past but I think we'll have fun!

Sounds amazing! Enjoy :-)

Someone losing their job today will have a rough time waiting until the end of April to get some relief. Although, I am grateful they are doing something..

Reading this makes me want to batten down the hatches and never come out!
I tried to find another MSM source for this and didn't see any. The source in the NYPost article doesn't contain the story either, that I could see. Seems this would be pretty big news, if true. JMO

I'm not much for telling people how to vote, but Floridians should consider an alternative.....IMO

Florida Gov. DeSantis declines to issue an order to close the state's beaches, despite coronavirus spread concerns; says that local governments can make their own decisions. Florida governor refuses to shut down beaches amid spread of coronavirus
Well some of us tried for an alternative and saw this coming.
I believe parts of S. Fl. has closed off some of their beaches no thanks to the Gov.
I erroneously posted Volusia co. (Daytona) was
closing their beaches. TV news was mistaken.
Fl. has their 7th death
216 cases
1061 Pending tests

"Queen Elizabeth's schedule has been modified due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The palace announced on Tuesday that although the queen will meet with officials this week as planned, "future audiences will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, in line with the appropriate advice."

Additionally, Queen Elizabeth will move to Windsor Castle for Easter on Thursday, one week earlier than planned, and it is not clear when she will return to Buckingham Palace.

The palace has also canceled several upcoming events, including the annual Maundy Service at St. George’s Chapel on April 9, three garden parties hosted by the queen in May, and two additional garden parties for the Not Forgotten Association and the National Trust."

How Queen Elizabeth, 93, has reacted to the coronavirus

Ditto! Almost 2 weeks of really poor sleep
Sleep is important to keep up your immune system. I often have insomnia anyway, so I've learned to practice a variety of methods to help me fall asleep and stay asleep.

If I may, I''l share a few:

*Don't use cell phone, tablet or laptop right before sleeping or when waking up too early (blue light emitted by screen restrains production of melatonin)

*Dark, cool room (I often sleep with the window open slightly)

*Avoid caffeine late in the day

*Relax and breathe - concentrate on your breath in and out, and not all the stuff in you brain. (Tough I know)

*Getting up in the middle of the night, keep lights off if possible.

*Imagine relaxing each part of your body separately, from head to toe (often referred to as the military method)

*Visualize a calm place. Your brain can't tell the difference between imagining the beach (or wherever your preference) and not being there.

*Old fall back - counting sheep. It's a simple, rhythmic, repetitive exercise similar to concentrating on breathing with a bonus - images of cute (identical) white fluffy sheep

All moo, but things that work for me.

Who would be the most likely to receive these checks?

Where is the "Head Banging" emoji? OMG! My husband just told me he is going to see the podiatrist at the VA next week!

Yes, I just yelled at him for the last 10 minutes! And what the heck is with the VA "healthcare system" scheduling veterans for optional appointments? Especially elderly ones?!

WTH?! Talk about clueless.

Can someone tell me more about what this is about? I'm not familiar with this practice. Does this mean that students go to the schools to pick up their meals? At first glance, this seems like a disaster in the making.
Why are so many patents totally relying upon the schools to feed their children? What happens in the summer and during school breaks?
