Personally I think this crisis is going to have a much bigger impact on our daily lives around the globe. 9/11 was absolutely devastating and horrifying. I was worried sick about society in general and I thought thousands of innocent people were going to be killed in ongoing attacks. But I didn’t immediately think a large part of my family or I could potentially die in the coming months.

With this virus I’m terrified to go out my front door because I could get the virus and kill my Dad, Mum and myself because we are all high risk. I’m worried sick about my Dad, who is nearly 74, going out in case he catches the virus.

I’m also extremely concerned about my Auntie who has Lupus, my best friend who has bad asthma and an 84 year old close friend who has serious health problems. The virus could kill us all. In addition I could be totally housebound for 18 months or longer until a vaccine is made.

Economically I also this crisis is going to be much worse around the globe than 9/11 was. Life completely changed on 9/11 and it has changed again on an incredible scale because of the virus.

Me too. It will ruin me. I could be housebound as well for 18 months. I don’t know how I puke be able to cope.

I’m interested in what all the people who were saying this was no bigger deal than the flu. That they can’t imagine anyone here getting it. That we are hysterical and panicking. What are they thinking now?

Is it just me or does it seem like they are trickling out information and warnings out gradually everyday?
I feel like as the numbers start rising everyday the warnings/lockdowns are going to be in a more serious tone. Hopefully with repercussions for those that aren’t cooperating.
JMO.

I have thought that too.

Back from my business trip that I drove, 6 hours each way. Observations:
Yesterday seemed really hectic and busy on the roads at the two places I stopped. Lots of people traveling. Today not so many, stopped at the same Bucees and it was quiet. Granted it was 7pm instead of 12pm but it’s a usual stop and it was less busy than usual. They still had milk and eggs plus lots of other stuff for sale.

Location I went to was quiet. Usually the hotel I stay in is packed with travelers to the point that finding parking is an issue. Last night there were only 5 cars in the parking lot. People I interacted with today still seem in denial about it, like it’s overblown. I hope we are wrong and it’s going to gently blow over and they can all shake their fingers at us and say I told you so.

No working from home for me. As long as they are paying us, my boss and I have already discussed all the research projects we have put on hold due to being too busy. It’s good for my new people in the lab, maxed our numbers will be 6 in the building if deliveries shut down. We all have already discussed if you have a fever you stay home.

Bob Duff, Senate Majority Leader, CT- retweet

As of Tuesday night, there are 68 positive cases of Coronavirus in Connecticut. This time last week we had 0 reported. The state’s epidemiologist, Dr. Carter said to multiply each positive by 100 for an estimated 6,800 positive Coronavirus cases in Connecticut.

You won't hear the 100x times number anywhere, but take that in. It's important IMO. What does it mean?

1) A lot of cases haven't shown symptoms yet.

2) And probably a lot more cases are asymptomatic, meaning they are harmless to the carrier (but not others).

I hope anyone that feels vulnerable stays in. They can spread it as well. Perhaps the mad rush for food & TP is slowing down. With nothing else open, there really is no place to go, unless one has to work. The data from state hotlines probably played a critical role in determining restaurants needed to be closed. If several callers all reported dining out as their only outings, it stands to reason they would be closed. Same with churches. I suspect many called in that noted only going to church. Moo

I know it’s illegal and unconstitutional but I wish they’d take a DNA swab of anyone who gets tested for COVID and looks like Delphi’s Bridge Guy.

I am thinking I may have to venture out to Publix tomorrow. I am out of coffee creamer, ice cream, potato chips, cheezits and coca cola. I usually pace myself when I am at work but now that I am home, I am eating my treasures at a rapid pace. I am actually thinking that a banana would be good too.
So glad to hear I am not alone!

I wasn't going to say this but I'm going to. Our youngest called and told me their landlord called and said since they have been such great tenants and pay on time etc.., he was reducing their rent this month. He said the first of April, he was going to expect $1.00. One dollar for rent of $800. He owns other properties and is doing the same for other tenants. Now that's a guy to be noted in my town. His kindness made me cry.

One possible worry down, on to the next 10 family members.

Two weeks ago, I started worrying about the appointments the dh had at the VA on Monday and today. I told him we may not be going because of the virus. I left it up to him because one is an important possible surgery, but he watches the news. The day before each appointment he cancelled. This morning we see that one of the 4 cases in our county is at the VA. They have known since Saturday and announced today! oy vey

By way of executive order, Beshear mandated in an afternoon Capitol press conference that “all public facing businesses that encourage public congregation, or that by the nature of their service” are unable to comply with social distancing recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must cease operation indefinitely.

Entertainment and recreation venues include gyms and exercise facilities, community and recreation centers, hair and nail salons, spas, concert venues, theaters and sporting facilities.

Also a 33-year-old woman who lives in New York but tested positive in Lexington is now being counted toward Kentucky's total. As of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the state’s COVID-19 patient information includes 27 cases:

I will believe the nail salons closed when I see their “closed” signs. In my area, they will play ignorant, imo.

U.S. plans to swiftly turn back people entering from Mexico illegally

... under the new rule, set to be announced in the next 48 hours, US border patrol agents would immediately return anyone to Mexico — without any detainment and without any due process — who attempts to cross the southwestern border between the legal ports of entry. They would not be held for any length of time in an American facility.

CT - 3/18/2020 COVID19 Update:

Latest COVID-19 Testing Data in Connecticut
Updated 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020
  • Total patients who tested positive (including presumptive positive): 68
    • Fairfield County: 48
    • Hartford County: 7
    • Litchfield County: 5
    • New Haven County: 8

As a prior post above stated, the State Board of Health is suggesting to multiple this 68 number x 100 = 6,800 COVID19 cases as a ballpark infection figure for the State.

Sobering as to how quickly this is moving and still so many people are not in compliance with social distancing guidelines and no formal guidance is coming from the State on something as simple as CLOSING MALLS! CT is moving at terrapin speed IMO on cracking down on the social distancing issue and isolation when lack of compliance is widespread. Sad that the broader population will pay the price for the lack of leadership from Hartford and Gov. Lamont IMO.
