NJ Day cares are staying open, will get additional state support, Murphy says

Gov. Phil Murphy said Wednesday the state is taking extra steps to fund day cares and keep them open in New Jersey, even though schools have been closed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The measures announced Wednesday include waiving some co-payments for those who qualify for child care subsidies and giving extra money to subsidy-eligible day care centers that remain open in the state.

Argh! Go home, all of you.

Or go to one of the many preserves in the state, there's plenty of room there.

Plenty of COVID-19 safe activities like hiking and bicycling.

It really is crazy, people all at the beach in Florida, while here they shut down schools/colleges, business, sports that never shut down. Maybe they should watch the 1918 documentary that was posted in topic #19 and get a dose of reality. The experts did the same things we are doing now, closing everything.

GREAT!!! They have an article on the Comfort deployment. Seems there maybe be a delay, per Twitter. Thought the pilot article might have details.

Could you check the article and maybe post the part about repairs/deployment plans?

Thanks....
I put the entire message in a PM to you. I can only copy 10% of it for WS TOS.

Pentagon wants hospital ship USNS Comfort to get ready to help with coronavirus; may be headed to New York

The Defense Department wants the Norfolk-based hospital ship USNS Comfort to get ready to deploy to New York in an effort to aid civilian hospitals that may need to relocate patients who aren’t diagnosed with coronavirus, according to the Department of Defense.

The Comfort is one of two 1,000-bed hospital ships that the Navy has frequently used to conduct goodwill missions and respond to natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the world. The other, the USNS Mercy, is based in San Diego.

Every day it looks more and more like something out of a sci-fi movie, like "The Andromeda Strain".

Except this is reality.

What good does it do for us to stay home and self isolate if children attend day care? It seems an almost perfect breeding ground for coronavirus to me. Kids just naturally put things in their mouths, then touch and play with the other children. Then they go home and pass it on to their parents and siblings. Parents go to work and pass it on and on and on and on...........................................

Cops break up 2 large weddings for defying coronavirus rules

Two weddings in Lakewood were broken up by police Tuesday night as state officials continued to warn against large gatherings amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Officers responded to the separate celebrations— one at Fountain Ballroom on Vassar Avenue and the other at Lake Terrace on Oak Street— around 8 p.m. and told venue staff that gatherings of more than 50 people are prohibited, Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said. The workers and attendees then dispersed, he said.

I think dosage is the key and children should not be given adult dosage.

There are special ibuprofen (and paracetamol) medications for children, I would think that the girl's parents knows the dosage for their child, and gave her the correct dose.

New York lawyer who is patient zero in the New Rochelle coronavirus outbreak which led the state to set up a one-mile containment zone in the area is 'awake and on the road to full recovery'

Adina Lewis Garbuz said her husband Lawrence Garbuz, 50, is 'awake and alert and seems to be on the road to full recovery,' in a Facebook post Wednesday.

Concerns had been mounting for his welfare when his condition deteriorated and he was placed into a medically-induced coma last week.

I think some politicians fear losing constituents, so they allow bars & restaurants to remain business as usual. Sadly, said politician might still LOSE constituents.
I think it is very likely politicians who are putting politics ahead of what is best for the community will lose support. I won't be surprised if all major cities issue shelter-in-place orders.

We use two different vets in two different states (one has bird and exotic vets). One of them just sent me this.

Dear Clients,

Our goal at AFV is to remain open for patient care. We are closely monitoring the global and local impact of coronavirus and will continue seeing patients for as long as we can safely do so. Our top priorities are to protect our clients, their pets, and our employees.

The best way for us to do this is to take precautions where we can and practice social distancing as much as possible. What does this mean for you?

We are temporarily going curbside, here is what to expect:

  • Here for an appointment
    • Please call when you arrive. We will get your pet’s history before a member of staff comes outside to escort your pet into the clinic. Owners will wait in their vehicle during the appointment.
    • The Veterinarian will call to discuss care and treatment recommendations over the phone.
    • Payment will be collected over the phone (credit/debit cards preferred) and a receipt will be mailed to you.
    • Your pet will be returned to your car, along with any medications and instructions.
  • Grooming or daycare drop off
    • Please call when you arrive. While on the phone, we will discuss any services your pet may need during their stay. A staff member will come out and escort your pet into the clinic.
    • Please call when you come to pick up and we can take care of any necessary payments over the phone before returning your pet to your car.
  • Surgery or boarding drop off
    • Before your scheduled appointment, we will call to review surgical treatment plans or verify boarding plans/services.
    • Please call when you arrive. A staff member will verify what was discussed in the previous call, obtain any required signatures, and escort your pet into the clinic.
    • Please call when you come to pick up and we can take care of any necessary payments over the phone before returning your pet to the car.
  • Picking up prescription medications or food/treats
    • Please call ahead so we can get everything ready for you. We will give you a timeframe for pick up.
    • Call when you arrive. Payment will be collected over the phone (credit/debit cards preferred). We will bring your supplies out to you and email your receipt.
We love caring for your pets, something we can only do as long as our staff remains healthy. These temporary changes may impact wait times. We know your time is valuable and will do our best to be as expedient as possible without sacrificing patient care.

We appreciate you partnering with us to ensure the continued health and well-being of you, your pet, our employees and the greater community.

I think a parent should call the pediatrician first to determine not just the correct dose but also when to give it.

Just a quick “hi all” to my very appreciated pandemic support group. I’m trying to catch up on the thread and on today’s news. Didn’t get to watch any of the pressers live today.

Busy day as I try to navigate a bunch of kids who are now home- with very unorganized school assignments being provided (or not provided as the case may be).

What a world this has become. I’m still trying to process.
Aren't we all.

As for schoolwork, my son just told me the same. My 2 grandkids (3rd and 1st grade) have been home a couple weeks already, due to other parents demanding it early on. This was done even before everyone started working from home, so they had to scramble first for child care.

He and family live on Long Island, in Nassau County. He and DIL work in NYC. Kids have yet to receive schoolwork or instructions to online work. I'm stunned and have been sending him links as my NJ teacher colleagues post them. There seems to be no continuity with this brand new life we are now leading.

He did said something comical today when I talked to him. "On the positive side, my work day ends in 8 minutes and I'm already home." Commute is normally over an hour.

I have a question and it sounds crazy. There are no reported cases of COVID in my city. I phoned in a prescription refill to Walmart this morning, not because I need it now, but because I figured it is safer to pick up before we have the virus locally. Got a text that it is now ready for pick up. So, my question is, should I go in to pick it up tomorrow morning at 9 when the pharmacy opens or this evening? It is 4:13 p.m. here. Sorry for asking ; I am just not thinking logically on my own.

So they want to block outsiders from shopping at the grocery stores? People who are visiting the area? How would anyone determine that? Make people stand in line and show proof of living in the county or something? That sounds awful to me. Why are there so many tourists in an area with only one grocery store and not enough food?

I see my post was misleading I’m sorry! The intention is to stop tourists from vacationing here. Home owners of course are fine but lots of people, just like in Florida, think now is a good time to vacation. They mostly aren’t bringing their supplies instead buying hoarding amounts here where many can’t afford to buy a lot of groceries at a time
