Bulk Buys and Distancing: How Dispensaries Deal With COVID-19

“"Gonna have to stop you right there, man. We're practicing social distancing today."”

[...]

“"Some places are just letting people in, as if it were a free-for-all at a grocery store. Here, it's just one person inside at a time," he says. "We're seeing, like, 40 percent less people, but they're spending around 50 percent more money."”

[...]

"”I can tell you we had constantly higher traffic in the stores, to the point where waiting rooms were full most of the time. For a time that is in between holidays, that's pretty unusual," says Peter Marcus, communications director for Terrapin Care Station. "People are probably thinking ahead."”

[...]

“But there's a limit to how much dispensary shoppers can panic-buy per day: one ounce of marijuana or eight grams of concentrate, or edibles containing no more than 800 milligrams of THC.

"Our sales are booming," explains Chuck Blackton, owner of Verde dispensaries in Boulder and Denver, as well as a wholesale marijuana cultivation. "We're not running out, but we're just slammed."

Dispensaries should have enough flower to make it through summer, according to store representatives, although several edibles vendors have been reporting shorter supplies, Andrle notes.

But as other Colorado businesses are required to close, people wonder whether dispensaries will be able to remain open...which leads to more bulk buying.”

Tulsa Health Department Confirm First Coronavirus (COVID-19) Death In Oklahoma
[...]

Officials say a man in his 50s who tested positive for COVID-19 on March 17 passed away due to complications on March 18. Officials say an epidemiological investigation is ongoing.

“It is with great sadness that I confirm that a Tulsa County resident has passed away due to COVID-19,” said Tulsa Health Department Executive Director Dr. Bruce Dart. “This is a tragedy for our community. In these unprecedented times, everyone feels the weight of this loss. COVID-19 has impacted our community on a monumental level, but today I ask you to take a moment to pause and recognize that a family has lost their loved one. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

The Health Department is not revealing the name of the man at this time. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt released a statement about the death sending his prayers to the family.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of Oklahoma’s first death from COVID-19. Sarah and I send our sincere condolences and ask Oklahomans to join us in praying for his family and loved ones,” Stitt said. “My highest priority is the safety and well-being of every Oklahoman and I will deploy every resource available to protect the health of all of our families, friends, and neighbors.”

Anybody know what specific materials are needed? As soon as the instructions get released they’ll be a run on those too because people will want to make them for themselves. Might as well get ahead of it if we can.

This may be surgical-grade but materials are not too difficult to find -- video and photos at the link below:

Within a day or two, some local hospitals expect to run out of specialized equipment to treat coronavirus patients.

Health care workers also said that any deliveries from the national stockpile will likely fall well short of the immediate need.

In response, a group of volunteers at Providence St. Joseph Health began churning out homemade equipment to fill that need. They spent much of Tuesday constructing face shields and surgical masks that will stand up to the rigors of this deadly disease.

The raw materials for the face shields include marine-grade vinyl, strips of foam, elastic bands and double-sided tape. All of it is available in stores around Puget Sound.

“So these face shields offer protection from spray and splatter," said Jennifer Bayersdorfer, as she held one up to demonstrate how it is used. Bayersdorfer is the senior vice president and chief quality officer at Providence St. Joseph Health, and one of the volunteers.

This personal protective equipment, or PPEs, will help doctors and nurses safely treat people with COVID-19.

“We started with that one because it's most critical,” said Rebecca Bartles, an epidemiologist with Providence. “We have some facilities that are very close to running out."

They also began modeling a few prototypes for surgical masks. It is all to address what state health officials said is a dangerous medical equipment shortage due to the speed of this coronavirus outbreak.

“It's impossible to deny. We are in a global health pandemic,” said Erika Henry, a state Health Department official who led a conference call media update on Tuesday. “There are resource shortages we simply cannot fill faster than the medical supply chain can replenish."

Sorry, Honey, but elitism isn't gonna work in these times. Assuming the governor's office said no.
Absolutely he issued a “no” and asked everyone to not ask for exemptions. One woman wanted to know if a special consideration might be made for her handicapped daughter to attend school. School is not in session. Why any woman thinks our Gov’ can arrange for one child to continue is beyond belief. I’m sure the woman isn’t the only mom wishing to have the kids out of the house. No sense sugar coating, it is what it is. Moo

I set him up like a Boss, and broke everything down so he could handle it. He dials in on his iPhone, I showed him how to box off tabs, added 2 big monitors that run off both laptops...

Arizona's coronavirus count rises to 31 as Coconino County, Luke AFB confirm cases
Arizona's count of reported presumptive positive and confirmed coronavirus patients rose to 31 on Wednesday after new cases were confirmed in Maricopa, Pinal and Pima counties and the Navajo Nation, Coconino County announced its first case and Luke Air Force Base announced two cases.

That number is up from the 18 cases reported in the Tuesday morning update from the Arizona Department of Health Services.

The state announced it had 27 total presumptive positive and confirmed coronavirus patients in its morning report. Four other cases were reported by other entities later in the day.

Coconino County's first reported presumptive positive case is a man from the greater Flagstaff area who is over 60 years old and is isolated at home, according to a release from Coconino County Health and Human Services.

Luke Air Force Base's 56th Fighter Wing Commander announced in a Facebook post Wednesday evening that two people from the base tested positive for COVID-19. The two and their families "have been isolated in their home since first showing symptoms," the post said. Those two cases have not yet been confirmed by state or county officials.

My mother has hoarded fabric for years. In isolation now, it gives her something to do. I’m sending this to her.
We finally have something in common and agree, my MIL has a room that is stocked like Joann Fabrics.....

Losartan might be good or it might be bad. Both have been suggested, so I hope they figure it out soon.

I took Losartan for a very short time because one of the side effects was a persistent dry cough. Lisinopril had similar side effect before that. Both drugs cause side effects for some and could mimic Coronavirus symptoms. I was finally able to take Candesartan without the annoying cough.

Common losartan side effects may include:
  • cold or flu symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, fever;
  • dry cough;
  • muscle cramps;
  • pain in your legs or back;
  • stomach pain, diarrhea;
  • headache, dizziness;
  • tired feeling; or.
  • sleep problems (insomnia).

MARYLAND

Coronavirus Cases Spike to Over 100 in Maryland, Including 5-Year-Old
More than 100 people are now diagnosed with the disease caused by the novel coronavirus in Maryland, including a 5-year-old girl in Howard County, Maryland, Gov. Larry Hogan said Thursday.

A total of 107 people have been diagnosed across the state, an 88% increase from two days ago, the governor said.

She is the first child to contract the virus in Maryland, Hogan said. He didn't detail the condition of the girl or her family. Health officials are legally bound to protect patient privacy.
