Walmart's stores will now open one hour early on Tuesdays for senior shoppers only.
Walmart to open one hour early for senior-only shopping on Tuesdays, changing store hours

Walmart, the largest retailer in America, is shortening its hours even further as the coronavirus pandemic -- and demand for necessities -- escalates. Beginning today, many of Walmart's 4,700 US stores will be open 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. until further notice. Walmart shortens its hours even further and takes new measures to fight coronavirus - CNN

@Henry2326 my wmt cashier told me yesterday the number calling is sick is astronomical. I’m sure the numbers worsen daily, similar to the virus.

I anticipate a huge problem in my town. Why? I just picked dry cleaning up at the drive thru. In the otherwise closed strip plaza, there is a Big Dots store, I think it sells all types of things, I’ve never been in. I counted 7 carloads all with three or more kids, all going in Big Dots. Each group consisted of one or more kid that appears 12 or older. I couldn’t help notice everyone looked disheveled, leading me to wonder if they have any hygiene skills...

I hadn't ever heard of Big Dots, but with a little help from Google, it looks to be a party supply store. In these parts, we have Party City. It has party supplies for all occasions, seasonal costumes, etc. Looks like Big Dot is similar with lots of stuff for kids to touch

MARYLAND

Gov. Hogan says there’s been an 88% increase in Maryland coronavirus cases in the last two days. There are more than 100 cases and one death so far.

Gov. Hogan says “no one” should board public transit unless they’re a health care worker or other essential personnel.

Terrific! Every state needs to do this.
I have a good friend who works in a grocery store (she is a writer and needs the job to pay the rent). She said she feels more like a therapist lately. Even when keeping an appropriate social distance, people need/want to talk and connect to others, and for many people right now, that connection is through the grocery store employees.

snipped.

I'm seeing kids all over the place. My husband said co-workers brought kids to work yesterday. ?!?

There wasn't a plan of what to do with the kids when the school closed, which is why I think de Blasio in NYC was so reluctant to close them, but he was pressured to do so.

I see both sides to the decision, but it's too late now. Most schools are closed and the kids are now in the community.

So am I to assume everyone believes “my kid won’t get it, kids don’t get it” and they’re willing to assume both sides of the risk?
Soon the stores will be noon-8, imo. Of course limited hours only causes more congestion during open hours, imo.

I hope WMT gives everyone that worked thru this 1,000 stock shares! They deserve it & it would be a good learning strategy for many of the younger employees.

ATLANTA....FINALLY....midnight tonight....

I have signed an Executive Order, effective at midnight, limiting restaurants to take out service, closing bars, gyms, etc. The fate of cities across the globe will be upon soon if we do not follow recommendations on ways to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. Keisha Lance Bottoms on Twitter

Just read the statement on the website :)

I was actually thinking of going there last week when we were going to have dinner at the home of friends who had just returned from Maui. We were going to greet them with leis :) Didn't get to Party City, so we greeted them with a bag of Lay's Potato Chips :D

I think it's more of people not having child care options, as well as others who don't see the risk to the community and not appreciating that vulnerable people could catch the virus from kids who might not be displaying symptoms.
