WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — The coronavirus pandemic could last into 2021 and cause shortages for both the government and private sector along with strains on the hospital system, according to a leaked government report.

The 100-page report was published March 13 by the Department of Health and Human Services. The New York Times was the first to report on the document which was marked "unclassified" and "not for public distribution."


The government's predictions about the pandemic included the following:

• "A pandemic will last 18 months or longer and could include multiple waves of illness."
• "Supply chain and transportation impacts due to ongoing COVID-19 outbreak will likely result in significant shortages for government, private sector, and individual U.S. consumers."
• "Increasing COVID-19 suspected or confirmed cases in the U.S. will result in increased hospitalizations among at-risk individuals, straining the healthcare system."

Subconsciously, I was stocking up long before and having a virus thread here helped. It's so strange though that so many people in my area didn't take advantage of the Scott toilet paper on sale a couple of weeks ago-- a pkg of 12 double = 24 for $3.99. I didn't really want Scott, but I was standing in front of a huge stack of it. I bought only one. Within a week, people were fighting each other for it. Yes, I should have bought two.

I’ve reached out to a few who I’m aware of who are near me and I’m generally a super private person, but if anyone in Colorado (Denver metro area) is in need of the “essentials” please reach out if you feel comfortable. I am willing and able to share what I have plus we are fairly consistently getting trucks at work.

I just hope that medical experts weigh in - some doctors will prescribe almost anything that a patient asks for. That isn't going to help the situation, if a particular drug actually doesn't work or only works anecdotally or marginally.

80% of people with CoVid19 will recover and many will never know they had it. A person with a common cold who has not been tested will end up with some of these special (and increasingly unavailable) medicines. Without actual scientific study published yet (the tertiary care people are doing their best to publish quickly, but I would not want to get out ahead of the research unless I had 1) had CoVid19 and 2) had serious symptoms.

Yes, and we all know what could happen when vulnerable people who need malaria treatment can't get medication because the US has sucked up all the drug of choice.

The problem with this, is that many low wage workers, don't bother to file taxes, as it is not a requirement for people with taxable income of less than $10,000.

I would hope those low wage workers are filing a return so that they can claim the earned income tax credit, which is a refundable credit, ie, money they can get without any tax liability. There are other refundable credits, so low income people should make sure they claim everything they are eligible for, even if they are below the filing threshold in income.

I keep thinking of that couple in the near-Nashville tornado. They huddled in their bathtub while their house was picked up by the tornado and the house flew with them in it. They survived. They, along with many others, lost their homes in that tornado...now there's this COVID-19 virus and they're suppose to stay in their homes that are in splinters.

I just wanted to say that it's a very nice thing (if you can afford it) to send a little cash in the direction of your favorite hairdresser or nail artist. My daughter and I are going to continue our monthly budgeted amount at our nail salon.

If you expect to continue to have services such as massage, you can maybe help your masseuse out with a little donation at this time. I figure if I can afford the luxury of nails once a month, I can afford to help out.

I have already planned to "pay it forward" when I finally go for a haircut later this month. My stylist has many senior clients who are probably not coming in regularly at this time. I will write her a nice check to help her through this difficult time. DH and I went to the same salon for more than 25 years before it closed more than a year ago. Four of the long-time stylists opened their own boutique salon, so we stayed with one of the stylists that we've seen for more than 15 years.
