MOO

Now is the time to self quarantine if you can. This is what my wife and I are doing. We are not having any interaction with others, save via phone, text, or speaking with a neighbor from a safe distance.

We have chosen to not go to any place of business, for any reason.

When we need re-supply we will take that step, but it may not be for quite some time.

Here is an excellent article on what appears to be the current objective of U.S. and other government bodies to fight the outbreak.

"The research also found that if interventions in the country could have been conducted one week, two weeks, or three weeks earlier, cases could have been reduced by 66 percent, 86 percent and 95 percent respectively – significantly limiting the geographical spread of the disease. However, if NPIs were conducted one week, two weeks, or three weeks later than they were, the number of cases may have shown a 3-fold, 7-fold, or 18-fold increase, respectively."

Early And Combined Interventions Crucial In Tackling Covid-19 Spread In China | University of Southampton

Fabulous. Can’t wait to check it out.

Well, crud. I went back on BP meds last week because my BP’s borderline and I heard high blood pressure was a risk factor for serious illness if you get the virus. Now I’m thinking about stopping it. My Doctor doesn’t know. Does anybody know? Is the Sun a reputable source? Is the blood pressure meds story being covered elsewhere?

Sorry, I’m sure you guys have hashed this out already but until this week I didn’t start diving into COCID-19 info. Now I kinda wish I hadn’t.

:(
Why don't you call your doctor and tell him/her your concerns?

I wonder if stores are closing because they know they will lose less money if they close and let the government take over payments for unemployment insurance? Don't know.

depends where
some places have announced a state of emergency and all non-essential stores to close

Stores are closing, some are closing online sales also. Almost all restaurants are take out only, or have closed indefinately. At least two of our restaurants have announced they might never open.

Kohl's temporarily closing all stores nationwide amid COVID-19 outbreak; other retailers follow suit
I passed our Kohl’s today, I did not see but two cars, I wondered if they were already closed under state order. Idk how the heck a dept store can sanitize without damaging merchandise.

Even more sobering is with 30,000 infections, we add 250 deaths in 5 days for a total of 450. I dont think from here on out the focus will be tp.

Military is coming in I hope MOO. Seriously. This is what I am hoping for and focused on. We will all be in lockdown and I hope they can deliver supplies, etc etc.

That’s what has got to happen and will happen MOO.

Remember everyone that every single day you’re out, you are taking a big risk.

This is highly highly highly infectious.

When I was younger, there was rationing and couponing for gasoline. I remember it was blocks long to get gasoline and we had to sit and wait and wait and wait just to get a few gallons. I believe that must have been in the early 70s? Most people here on this thread probably are familiar with such. Just guessing the age group of folks following this thread. So yes, we have done rationing and we just took it in stride.

Oh yes! The memories!

From me, one of what they now call "the Olds" in some article posted earlier: :D

I remember the gas lines in the 70s and the tactics people used. I remember the water shortage and the funny sayings to not flush every time. I remember a paper shortage when toilet paper was harder to get.

Going back further, I remember when the east coast had a huge power outage. Also there was a time we were snowed in for a long time and it seemed shocking to many.

This time people's lives are in jeopardy and I hope we can get through this.

There was a post above re: Kohls via @Henry2326 iirc.

Comforting my students via email and some phone calls has become my new full time. That is in addition to getting their lessons to them via Google Classroom. I teach 9th and 10th graders. They miss their routine and many are very scared. Last week, I noticed many were going to the hand sanitizer frequently and many seemed concerned. I think most of them have their heads on right. What we are seeing in FL is a large concentration of risk takers and they are not representative of the whole.

that's a good point

Frankly, many of the commercials are either irrelevant or depressing - as they often show people outside and.or having normal lives. Ads are for things that no one can or wants to think about buying at the moment.

It's like watching the past and mourning it.

Oh you are SO right.

I was just noticing that last night. I was watching TV last night and could recognize the ads were for what seemed like an old life - car ads for people going to the beach and to parties, beverage ads for people at bars and having picnics, ads for kids doing school stuff.

It was a sad recognition of a loss of innocence.

You know what’s bugging me? There was an agreement between the governors of CT, NY and NJ that restaurants and bars could no longer serve in their establishments-only takeout and delivery service. May be a great idea, except that some establishments are not in compliance, and there is zero enforcement. So the places which have chosen to obey the new laws will probably go out of business, and the ones still operating like always will make all the money and spread the disease around.
Where is that info from? Yesterday there was a report that only two places in NYC were out of compliance - a hookah place and a smoothie shop, IIRC.

LE is checking.

I saw two officers looking into a restaurant on my block yesterday - I thought they were reading a menu but later realized they were making sure no diners were seated in the restaurant.

Please correct me if I have incorrect info.

Absolutely...I had asked numerous times throughout the hour and eventually had enough. I honestly could have used more appropriate words maybe...lol

To put in perspective:
I already work with cardboard boxes of product from all over the country and have to open them and remove the product from inside then divvy up the product to 608 other cardboard boxes repeatedly for 10 plus hours a day...if that's not enough it's in a small space with other people attempting to do the same thing. It's bad enough on a normal day but its concerning now for sure.
Do they at least provide gloves? If not, I would buy a few boxes.

Guys. It could just be me.

This is going to sound weird.

But maybe consider giving someone you trust here a phone number or something, email, whatever, should you want to have a connection here just in case / if:

My techie spider sense is going off that internet systems are possibly generally overloaded across the board and this is just the beginning. MOO

“Not to sound like an alarmist but” - (LOL remember when we USED to say that...sadly we don’t seem to need that preface anymore.)

Anyway, I think pretty much everything I’ve said that is going to happen has already started happening, based on what we’ve learned so far from those who have come before us...

There is value in all these international posts that you might not think could affect you.

Watch what happens in other countries.

Front lines, police, FD, medical workers, etc etc same old

Anyway my point is:

Oh yeah. In case the internet goes down have a plan B for communication and contact Jmo moo.

Jumping off this further.

Everyone go to Public Health Dept and Governor’s Office in your State and write down phone numbers, etc. Moo

Just pretend the internet goes down. Make some notes moo/

hopefully a lot has been learned from Katrina re: FEMA.

Checking in on FEMA brb.

Blizzard here.

My internet already is going down at least twice a day. But it comes back every time within 20-30 minutes. The networks must be overloaded from everyone working from home and all the kids doing school from home and all the rest of society streaming endless Netflix marathons at the same time (no judgement I'm watching Netflix right now, LOL). I don't have any cell phone signal where I live. So if my internet goes down, I simply won't be on here. It's happened before that I've lost internet at home for a couple months due to a broken pole and nothing the company could do about it. Life goes on. We will get through this time too if it comes to that (although I really hope it doesn't because my DH's job depends on him being able to work from home right now). So if I suddenly stop posting for a while, don't worry about me until it's been many weeks or months. We have good neighbors IRL and we will be OK. :)

I remember that cars with license plates that ended on an even number could only buy gas on even number days of the month and the same with license plate ending in an odd number only allowed to buy gas on odd numbered days of the month. Doctors were allowed to buy gas on any day.

I think this is much worse than the energy crisis but I was a kid then so maybe I didn't realize the severity of it then.
I remember that, and I also remember the LONG lines!

Yeah. And this is jus the beginning of the overload. Jmo/

Imagine when more people are on lockdown, etc.

We have a couple mom & pop diners out of compliance, they are taking “to go” orders but the regular clientele walk in to place their order, then linger, chatting it up. LE is aware, but......

I know people are snatching tp up as soon as it hits the shelves, and I understand there may not be more in warehouses, but really, how long does it take to make tp? Charmin is made in Wisconsin, you would think they could keep up with production. Of course I don't know if they are short of some basic ingredient since I don't really know what's in tp.

MOO

eta you tube has an answer to everything.

I wonder how people will manage with special diets if the military is dropping off supplies. Does one just eat less of what one needs and give away or trade items not used?

It has been making me really sad to see 'the old life' commercials. I wonder if things will ever be the same?
