Opinion - April may be a very bad month for the USA and the rest of the world.....Take care of yourself and your loved ones the best you can. Be kind to others.........moo
I agree. I think the worst is yet to come. Not to be negative but it seems hard to believe otherwise. MOO

Still awaiting test results of a coworker. Notified last Tuesday it would be 4-5 days for results.
Pasadena, CA.

Yet some folks get their test results in a matter of hours

I have something called a “buff” that protects your face from the sun. They sell them at most camping type stores. Mine is from REI. I’m using it as a face mask. I don’t know if it really does anything but it does cover my entire nose and mouth with no gaps. I know if I use it mowing the pollen doesn’t bother me as much, so it filters some.

Thought I'd share how this virus is similar to how one cat that isn't fixed and every kitten she has isn't either exploded the cat population quickly.
COVID19 is faster.
236 doubles every 3 days, in a month is 60,000 in 2 months is 400,000. Stay home!
Still have friends who refuse to be told what to do.
One even took his keyboard to concourse C at the airport to play for other people. He thinks he is doing them a favor! Geez.

AMEN BRO....

Why is anyone in the US government of either party having a luncheon with anyone else?
Steve Lookner on Twitter

Sen. Paul was at GOP Senate luncheon on Tuesday with Secretary Mnuchin & was on the Senate floor on Wednesday to vote on a coronavirus bill
This doesnt indicate when he was tested, nor how he was able to get tested since he didnt have symptoms or contact with infected person.
Christal Hayes on Twitter

Why the heck do they still shake hands? With someone in the government affected (Barr?), with Brazilian President?

More on masks.

Okay, so the CDC wasn't completely evil. My conspiracy meter is calming down. It is true that with something like coronavirus, each R95 mask should be thrown away after each use - and of course, that's exceptionally problematic for public distribution and use.

It's unlikely that putting some additional cover over an R95 will actually work. Big university hospitals say there's no way to reuse them (and yet, of course, staff are being forced to, due to shortages).

Cleaning and Disinfecting: Public Health Respiratory Protection Program Template - Minnesota Dept. of Health

R95's can't be cleaned, apparently. OTOH, for most of us (if we had such a mask), a quick trip to the pharmacy while wearing one is going to offer protection and wearing a bandana or cloth mask under it (to protect it from your own respiration and whatever is already in your lungs) is an option.

I suppose we could all dress like beekeepers.
Front-line healthcare workers MUST be dressed like astronauts.

When I review the Wuhan footage by the journalist, everyone in the hospital is in full body containment, even the guy reading the CT scans.

This is what it is going to take to keep our healthworkers safe.

Why the Feds, FEMA, and CDC cannot get this done is beyond pathetic and absolutely unacceptable.

That should be the MOST IMPORTANT thing the government does right now. All of this can be produced in the US.

That is one major reason why I am stressing. The more I read, the more I get stressed.
I am afraid not to read the news because I used to not read the news and had no idea that this was going on. I am like a dog chasing its tail -

I know stressing about the unknown is useless and does not change anything.

Not a political post

Would a test even be needed? And if "Negative", that is sort of wasteful, because he had no symptoms at all. According to their own guidelines, he should be in quarantine for 2 weeks.

Considering the number of people many politicians/government leaders (esp as high up as the VP) are still necessarily interacting with, if he WAS positive, the number of people he'd go on to expose probably play a big piece in that decision to test him/Mrs Pence.

And as far as the people talking about return times on tests, it seems to be heavily influenced by where/through whom the testing is done, as well as which variation of the Covid test is being done. And while increasingly we're seeing faster versions of the test coming out, that's not being used widely yet, and some are still using earlier versions that necessarily take longer.

I personally know medical/hospital staff who can't return to the front lines to help because it's taken 7+ days for their tests to come back, and that's been by virtue of who runs their screenings...and obviously they're desperate for medical personnel, so I don't think it's all related to 'status/higher profile' - although I'm sure in cases where there is access to quicker testing or slower, then yes, some of them are getting done via that means.

But considering I know multiple 'front line' people who have been stuck in isolation waiting to return to hospital jobs because their own tests are so slow, I do think it has more to do with the variation of the test as well as where it's being processed.

I bought baklavas, they are going to be my mask, albeit it's totally unclear if they work at all.

I'm sorry, but consider these a fashion item, and NOT AT ALL a safeguard.

I hate seeing this sort of stuff perpetuated, then see people go out and socialize as if this piece of fabric is somehow giving them a force field.

I think they should practice social/physical distancing.

Especially AT THE PRESS CONFERENCES

And they should use different podiums for us all

Shameful....

The CEO of the Intercontinental Exchange, which owns the New York Stock Exchange, sold millions of dollars worth of the parent company's shares in late February just days before the first reported death from the
novel coronavirus in the U.S. The transaction also came as financial markets were starting to tumble as the devastating economic impact of the outbreak was becoming clear.

Jeffrey Sprecher, who is the husband of Republican U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, on February 26 sold $3.5 million in shares of ICE, as the exchange is called, at an average price of $93.42 each, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Since then, ICE shares have plunged nearly 25% amid a broader downdraft in stocks.

NYSE boss sold his own stock ahead of coronavirus market meltdown

Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) Shortage Causing Concern | Arthritis Foundation

“March 20, 2020 – People who take hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) might have trouble getting a refill from their retail or mail order pharmacy. Doctors are getting questions about this after the news about the potential for the drug to help shorten the course of COVID-19 was broadly reported on March 19. News sources are already reporting shortages. Erin Fox, an associate adjunct professor of pharmacology at the University of Utah and an expert in drug shortages, says half of the eight suppliers of the drug report normal supplies. The others report back orders.

The drug, originally approved for malaria, is now also approved as a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug to treat rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus and is used in the treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis.”

[...]

“What You Can Do

People who don’t have a refill on file at the pharmacy can call their doctor and ask for one. If your pharmacy or others in the area do not have any hydroxychloroquine in stock, ask your doctor for guidance.

If you cannot get your hydroxychloroquine prescription filled, you can report it to the FDA at [email protected].”

Thank you for this! I will definitely be calling my doctor in the morning and seeing what he advises. I can't be the only patient calling in with this issue right now. And at least I know I have two weeks to get it figured out.
Thanks again.

I think Dr Faucci and Dr. Bix needs to wear full containment suits at these conferences.

I mean, for GAWD's sake, why is Ben Carson coughing on camera and less than 3 feet from Faucci or Bix

And Trump is touching everything in sight

If Faucci even showed up with a mask and gloves, Trump and Pence would be repelled and give him a wide berth.

Coronavirus: Fourth death confirmed as 121 new cases confirmed in Ireland, bringing total to 906

Coronavirus: Fourth death confirmed as 121 new cases confirmed in Ireland, bringing total to 906

ANOTHER 121 PEOPLE have been confirmed to have coronavirus as health chiefs announced the fourth Irish death from the illness.

A fourth person has died, the HSE said this evening.

The announcement means there are now 906 cases in the Republic. There are now 1,034 cases on the island of Ireland.

The HSE said that is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre said the latest fatality was a man in the east of the country who had an underlying health condition.

Health officials have been studying the spread of the disease through the nation and are collating data regarding age profiles and the county in which the person was infected.

Of 712 cases which they have studied so far, they found:

  • 55% are male and 44% are female, with 35 clusters involving 190 cases
  • The median age of confirmed cases is 44 years
  • 211 cases (30%) have been hospitalised
  • Of those hospitalised, 17 cases have been admitted to ICU
  • 159 cases (22%) are associated with healthcare workers
  • Dublin has the highest number of cases at 402, (56% of all cases) followed by Cork with 101 cases (14%)
  • There is now at least one confirmed case of Covid-19 in every county in Ireland

It will do nothing if a COVID-19 carrier coughs within about 4 feet of you.

These kinds of masks work best to keep you from touching your mouth or nose with your dirty hands.
