Gov. Tim Walz said Monday he’s working at home as a precaution after learning he’d been in contact with someone who had COVID-19.

Also on Monday came news that the disease had directly touched the families of two of Minnesota’s most prominent politicians. Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan said in a late Sunday night social media post that her brother died in Tennessee from COVID-19, and U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar said her husband is now hospitalized in Virginia with the coronavirus.

MARYLAND

Hogan is closing all non-essential businesses in Maryland effective at 5 p.m. today.
Hogan announces "further and more aggressive actions" will be taken to disperse gatherings.
Erin Cox on Twitter

Hogan says state is not on lock down, and people are not ordered to stay home.
"We are telling you, unless you have an essential reason to leave your house, you should stay home."

"
Maryland is not just going to rely on or wait for action from the federal government" Hogan says after listing all the federal officials he's reached out for supplies and help for an economic stimulus.

how many people it can be transitted....if the R0 is 2, then every person can transmit to 2 people.

@BetteDavisEyes good choice on keeping your contacts to an absolute minimum.

I am keeping my husband to me only, and my contact is social distance to as few people as possible.

Central church hosts more than 1,800 people amid covid-19 outbreak

CENTRAL, La. (FOX 44) (LOCAL 33) The Life Tabernacle Church hosted 1,825 people at their Sunday morning service.

26 buses were used to pick people up from around the Baton Rouge area and transport them to Sunday service.

Pastor Tony Spell says the way to handle a pandemic is through the healing hand of Jesus.

That is our command, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.

Social distancing did not happen at the service, held outside. All 1,825 people were spread across the campuses seven buildings.

Throughout the service parishioners could be seen touching each other and closely gathering, very few wearing masks or gloves.

Spell says if anyone in his congregation contracts covid-19 he will heal them through God.

Hmmm this seems so complicated (along with everything else). Where would they go I wonder? Thoughts anyone?

Out into the world, where they'll become infected and then infect more.

After discussion with DH and suggestions from several members, I canceled my regularly scheduled cleaning service for this Wednesday. The company has a COVID-19 statement on their website that does not mention that the ladies will wear masks; they always wear gloves. Even if the team is healthy, there is no way that DH and I would know if they've been exposed within their own families or in the many homes they clean each day.

A Message from Merry Maids on COVID-19

I canceled our regular cleaning service as well. For the same reasons, even if they use gloves and masks, I just don't know what they have been exposed to. Mr Pirate is 72, high risk with his high BP as well. We have taken no chances and have been totally isolated for some time. I just can't have someone in my home right now.

***Edit*** I just got an email from the owner of my service, the owner feels he is mandated to shut down temporarily per the governor's order. He also stated he did not want to put his employees at risk.

Robot designed in China could help save lives on medical frontline

A robot designed to help medical workers treat coronavirus patients remotely is seen, after having been placed for pictures, during a demonstration for the media at the aerospace engineering school of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China March 4, 2020. CARLOS GARCIA RAWLINS / REUTERS
''SHANGHAI — Researchers at one of China’s top universities have designed a robot they say could help save lives on the frontline during the coronavirus outbreak.

The machine consists of a robotic arm on wheels that can perform ultrasounds, take mouth swabs and listen to sounds made by a patient’s organs, usually done with a stethoscope.

Such tasks are normally carried out by doctors in person. But with this robot, which is fitted with cameras, medical personnel do not need to be in the same room as the patient, and could even be in a different city.''

China has sent tens of thousands of medical workers to the epicentre of the outbreak, Hubei province, state media say. More than 3,000 medical workers had been infected by late last month, including whistleblower Li Wenliang, whose death in early February sparked a brief and rare outpouring of grief and rage on Chinese social media.''

Thank you for sharing this. I hesitated to send an email to MM but realized that having the house cleaned is not a priority right now. There's only the two of us, we don't have a lot of clutter due to my asthma, and our home doesn't really get seriously dirty.

ETA: I just received an email from MM.

...we certainly understand. The cleaning business does qualify under essential businesses however, even with taking every precaution the risk is there. I will cancel your cleanings until I hear from you. Thanks again for your loyalty and please stay safe. I know everyone hopes this passes quickly.

Best regards...

I’ve been too afraid to peek into this thread. So very afraid. I’m a realist. I also follow the path for our children’s future. Our children’s children’s future. And on and on, it may so go. Let’s let the world’s love always flow.

Some news from Iowa. Some good, some not:
IDPH reports 15 new COVID-19 cases, 105 total statewide
Six Johnson County COVID-19 patients have recovered, officials say
This is only current as far as number recovered because it's several days old.
Winnebago stops production, paying 5K workers for 2 weeks Hopefully ths is the
beginning of other factories in Iowa doing this as well.
Collins Aerospace confirms employee diagnosed with coronavirus IMO-this employer has alot
of employees.
Citing coronavirus concerns, officials reduce prison jail numbers

I'm torn regarding the 'test everyone' vs 'test only those with Covid-19' symptoms. The reality is that there are some people out there who have contracted the disease and survived. They have immunity now.

If things get so dire that supply chain industries have a dearth of employees to sustain production, it would be advantageous to designate some of these people to work to maintain not only medical and food supplies for the general population but to keep the economy chugging along, albeit at a reduced rate.

I think research on finding an antibody test is just as important as finding a vaccine.

And maybe cause a little trouble along the way...

"Spell says if anyone in his congregation contracts covid-19 he will heal them through God"

That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

I’m totally embarrassed that this is occurring in my state. He hasn’t read his Old Testament well. @pirate, yes, pure Louisiana

@Bette & @pirate I’m considering asking my germaphobe cleaners to stay home. Not sure what she does in her spare time.
