Wow. Glad we made our own test kits.
As was widely reported, the original kits that cdc made were failing as well and had to be recalled.

Our tests failed in the first few weeks too. That’s why it took us this long to get testing.
Exactly. They had to be recalled because they were so bad.

DR. EMMA HODCROFT

This *is* a century-defining moment.

We *will* refer to things as before or after 'the pandemic'.
The post-pandemic world *will* be different.
The Hope is this:
We have chance to make that post-pandemic world one we want. To address what caught us short; to do better.

I respect your opinion as well, and love your posts. Ahem, however, people are living and paying rent/mortgages, utilities, food, whatever on the social security checks they have coming in. So far these checks have not stopped coming in, but paychecks for those who aren't able to go to their jobs any more will be shorter or nonexistent. They ARE hurting, us SS peeps are no better or worse than we were before the virus. If we could pay our bills then, we can pay them now. I don't believe we should get a "windfall".

I have 2 SILs, with families, who are now unable to go to their work. It will hurt both families badly while I'm in the same boat I always was. IF I get any money, I will gladly give it to them. As far helping the economy, we can't go anywhere or spend any money. I can't even go out to lunch and am afraid to do drive through. Any money I get will sit in my pocket/or family's until things change.

Another child of mine, living in Italy, is salaried, he isn't hurting, but he told me yesterday 600-700 people died the day before. This thing boggles my mind in more ways than one. I'm very torn, except for the money. I do not feel I deserve it. Any other time I'd GRAB what the gov't gave me, but now others need it more than I.

I feel the same way about not deserving it. My DH and I both receive Social Security and have savings. If we get the payments, we will redirect the funds to our local food pantry and to help others who need it more than we do.

May have been posted already, but if you use the Weather Channel App (free) on your phone, it is integrated with COVID19 data so that you get info about state & county data. Not posting this to stress anyone out, but so that you can plan how you go about your day. There are no doubt data gaps, but it may be helpful to some. Hubby has it now and likes it.

— How much will my check be?
Adults will get $1,200 each and children will get $500 each. A married couple could receive $2,400 and a family of four could receive $3,400.
According to Vox, the checks will get smaller for those with higher incomes, ensuring the payouts benefit the lower and middle class. According to the CARES Act proposal on Monday, payments phase out at a rate of $5 per every additional $100 in income starting at $75,000 in adjusted gross income for singles, $112,500 for heads of household, and $150,000 for married couples filing jointly. For example, a single adult who earns $85,000 would get $700 (a decrease of $500 due to their higher income).

— Where will the money come from?

Taxes, essentially. CNBC reports it’s unclear whether the money will be considered a loan or a gift, in which case some of it may have to be paid back. Recipients may have to repay it on a future tax return -- this year’s income tax filing deadline has been delayed to July 15 -- or if it’s a “gift," it could be considered taxable income, Dunn said.

— When will I get my check?

Mid-April, possibly later.

“We want to make sure Americans get money in their pockets quickly,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said last week. “As soon as Congress passes this, we will get this out in three weeks.”

The payouts could arrive by April 15, but The Tennessean reports specific dates may change during the appropriations process in Congress. Individuals who set up a direct deposit with the IRS should still expect to see their money sooner than those waiting for checks in the mail.

I think in this rare occasion, we will receive paper checks from the US Treasury department. They don't know the eligible recipients' current bank account information so will probably use the last address filed with the IRS to send the checks by snail mail. I of course much prefer direct deposit if I'm eligible though. IMO

We already filed our tax return for 2019 electronically and the IRS took what we owed from our checking account (ACH withdrawal). So I would think the IRS would probably credit our account rather than send us a paper check. But IDK. MOO

I do admit to being ashamed of NY folk leaving for vacation this late in the game. They should know how dangerous and selfish that is. When I traveled a couple of weeks ago to manage my late sister's affairs, I was worried about spreading it to others, and my area is still pretty low-risk.

All those college students on spring break, families at Disney and at the beaches were not only from New York.

NOT ENOUGH TESTS!! We cant see the enemy yet!

By Sunday afternoon, California had conducted about 26,400 coronavirus tests of its 40 million people.

New York, which has half as many residents, had performed more than 78,000 tests as of Monday”.

California is way behind in testing and tracking coronavirus. It’s a big problem

I am done trying to say the same thing here when people point fingers at NY and NJ.

Ask your governors to start mass testing!!

Just because figures in your state are low does not mean the virus isn’t running rampant.
