Partying for mardigras is as dumb as a coronavirus party in KY. We routinely have hurricane parties here, while my neighbors party, I pack up and drive like a bat out of h-ll to go north and away from the path.

How many times has the US helped our allies with emergency supplies and aid?

NATO is a team. At this time, every NATO country has their own exploding problem with the pandemic. Surely no one is expect California to send their doctors and equipment to New York simply because New York needs them too.

sorry for the repeat but it seems incredible that fecal samples were 100% diagnostic when some of the same patients tested negative with swabs. Yeah I know n=14 but this seems like a testing breakthru.
Yeah, but if the testers only want to do swab testing, you can't just say, "Here, have a fecal sample instead."

I have been in your shoes. In a way, I am still in your shoes. I have a daughter who refuses to stop drinking, it has been 7 years of my hoping, praying, worrying, detaching, trusting-being let down. On and on.... she denies she has the problem. She doesn't live with me and I refuse to let her manipulate me. I know the song and dance. She has more stories than the Bible. It hurts every day to have lost her-I try to be kind to her-
You must set boundaries for your own safety and life. It is about respect too. You must choose your life, first.
Early 2000's My boyfriend(father of my youngest daughter) love of my life was an addict and binge drinker...he lived on the edge. I was always afraid. He did really reckless things and my life was always in jeopardy. I had to choose to live without him. You have to choose. Choose.
It may be safer and more comfortable for you now to stay in this less than safe pandemic with him. Eventually, Just open your eyes and see it for what it truly is. Are you willing to die for him?
Anyways, I'm sorry. Be strong and you can do it. Accept him the way he is, you can't change him you can only change yourself.

Sorry if this is not allowed but I just needed to reach out. I have been granted the opportunity to work from home. This is truly a prayer that has been answered. My boyfriend has been living with me for about 3 years now. He does not want to stay quarantined. Last week I pleaded with him not to go to a friend's house to hangout. Well he did. I have a weakened immune system since I have had many times gotten very sick with bronchitis. Asking for prayers that he will listen to me. He left today again to run an errand. It has been over 6 hours. I know he is out drinking. Again sorry if this is not allowed. I just needed to tell someone.

Isn't it a lot simpler to test fecal samples than sputum? Does anyone know how that works?
Sputum specimens! Horrors of nursing school came rushing back!
Yes, poop! I'll take that over sputum anyday!!
It makes sense, I mean if the virus is there, I think tests would be more accurate. I've had some nurses who swabbed me for strep and they barely touched the back of my throat! Having to go that deep? I had numerous sinus infections when I was younger, the ENT used a flexible metal rod with cotton wrapped around it. I swear he swabbed under my eyeballs with that! At least he numbed me first. I can't imagine how uncomfortable the test must be.

 RED EYES.

I appreciate every single health care workers so much right now.

Care home nurse tells of terrifying and sudden ways coronavirus struck her patients

That's it! Thank you. I understand this to mean red shadow on outside of the eyeball, not red eyeshadow makeup.

"It's something that I witnessed in all of them (the patients). They have, like ... allergy eyes. The white part of the eye is not red. It's more like they have red eye shadow on the outside of their eyes," Earnest said...

Earnest tracked those symptoms, too. But for her and her colleagues at the Life Care Center and admitting doctors at a nearby hospital, the eyes became a sign that coronavirus had struck, she told CNN.

"We've had patients that just had the red eyes as the only symptom that we saw and go to the hospital and pass away," she said."

Does anyone know how the test actually works? Would they be using the same reagents for the fecal sample? Iirc it was fau!ty reagents that gave inconclusive results for the bad cdc tests first developed.

Slow Response to the Coronavirus Measured in Lost Opportunity (NYT)
WASHINGTON — When Ford’s chief executive, Jim Hackett, announced on Tuesday that the carmaker would team up with General Electric to build ventilators, he tempered the good news with a note of caution: “We’re talking about early June.”

Oh I agree. I’ve been concerned since day one this would ultimately be proven as a source of transmission. If so, I see frequent outbreaks, Jmo.

I'm not sure if it's been discussed here this evening. There is a recent video of a nurse speaking out in NY. I watched it on CNN it's still up. She has stated, people have come in for other things (car accident) and they test, do xrays (not clear on wording) and they are showing up as having the virus and damage from it. Take from it what you will. They are ringing alarm bells!!

I got the impression that loss of sense of smell and taste, and a red shadow on the eyes, is early signs that something is going seriously wrong.
Look, as it is, I wake up at 2:30 a.m. with every symptom: cough, hot/cold, fatigue, headache, body aches, twitchy eyes, hallucinations. Doncha know that tonight, I'll have red-eye and won't be able to smell the desert mesquite and creosote from the open bedroom window.

This has a photo of how people are swabbed. I don't believe they could use anything else in place of it. Honestly I don't know. They need to figure something out that is a rapid test.

Reporting here-- an update from an older lady just trying to stay alive and also to flatten the curve.

Someone on here said maybe today would be a good day to beat the crowds. It was Day 12 for me in isolation, but I decided to go shop at Kroger's Food4Less in San Diego. I couldn't go early for the senior special time. I went around Noon. Let me tell you, Kroger's has it together! (in the South, I think they own the Publix chain?) I was impressed! :) They gave me a disinfected cart, and no wait to get inside. They had decent, sufficient stock on hand. Wow, I got everything on my list except flour. No flour at all on shelves.

Listen, I got a big package of 12 rolls 1,000 sheets each of toilet paper for $6.50! They seemed to have plenty of meats and vegetables. I needed some of the suggested OTC headache and cough meds, just in case I got the virus...yes, found the OTC meds I needed. No price gouging, prices were almost the regular price. NO long line to pay either. A lot of shoppers, me too, had on masks. I had disinfecting wipes handy. Ready now to go back into a longer self-isolation, but now I have enough supplies to go 20-30 days or longer if needed. I promise stay home, if you'll just help me stay sane. :D
I've enjoyed the same great experience with my Kroger in Central Kentucky. Hard to tell if it's the retailer, time of day or location that contributes to each shopper's experience. IMO

I've been in dire straits a time or two in the hospital, and have had all sorts of invasive procedures, so I don't care -- stick a swab up my nose or, like, wherever, and let's see. I just want to be able to be tested if I need to be tested.

I do not know how to do it. You can watch video on CNN. Do not need cable. It should be top of page as I watched in the last hr half
