Evidence suggests that Social Distancing is working

Now that there is (likely) a stimulus bill, I would love to see the people in our nation who are competent, compassionate, and actually do things, get together and talk about what is coming next. We will cycle through the stages of national/political and personal grief as we move forward, but what will be our steps to move forward?

Testing for antibodies so students and teachers and other workers can get back to work (or begin work on making PPE) if they have already been exposed? (with exemptions for those in high-risk families?)

Build and distribute PPE to prepare for locations with upcoming outbreaks and second/third waves?

Hazard pay for those who are working in essential capacities (including grocery store workers, truckers, etc)?

ETA - I imagine this will involve coalitions of states - hopefully all of them, though those who are not too worried may choose not to join.

I'm tired of being angry and screaming at the wind. So while we are bracing ourselves for what's to come, how do we plan to move forward as truly United States? This is an opportunity to be our best.

Riddle me this: if the olympics are being cancelled (postponed until September 2021), why would anyone think it is okay to open up society, get rid of restrictions, get together in churches and other graoups? i don't get it. It is a huge deal that the olympics are being cancelled: there has to be a darn good reason to do it.

I would assume, because an Olympic Games is an enormous undertaking that (IIRC from a documentary I saw a few years ago), a minimum four-year process (might be more) to schedule and plan.

Takes a lot to turn a cruise ship of that size around. NYC has had shorter construction deadlines than this (they don't usually make 'em, but they've had 'em ;) ).

Walmart, Kroger among grocery stores installing plexiglass barriers, social distancing markers amid outbreak

In press releases, both Walmart and Kroger shared that supermarkets would be adding temporary plexiglass sneeze guards to pharmacy lanes and checkout counters.

Walmart shared the news Tuesday, confirming that all locations across the country will install the plexiglass shields at store registers in the next 2 to 3 weeks. The company will also be installing the barriers at both Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacy lanes during the same time period.

In addition to the sneeze guards meant to protect both customers and employees, the major grocery store chains have also implemented social distancing tools by installing floor decals and waiting points designed to keep people six feet away from each other.

“Over the coming days and week we are installing floor decals in our stores at both the entrances and in checkout lanes, making it easier for customers to judge the proper social distance from each other,” a press release from Walmart read.

NY/Cuomo:

28% of all testing in US is being done in NY

Any hospital in NYS can perform the testing

We are hunting +'s to reduce the spread

30,000 + cases in total: 5,000 new cases

17,000 in NYC
4000 in Westchester County
3000 in Nassau County

Westchester has dramatically slowed the exponential rate of infection

New York’s Governor Cuomo will have a daily briefing at about 11am on CNN. I will post a link later when it uploads to YouTube if anyone missed it.

Some points:

Doubling has decreased from every 2 days to every 4.7 days. West Chester County has slowed. Staying at home and shutting down is working! Opinion- Keep it up NY and NJ! And everyone else!

Also - 28% of all country's testing is being done in NY State. Cuomo has secured enough PPE's, masks etc for all hospitals. Ventilators remain the biggest issue.

NYC has more cases because "We welcome people from across the globe." Population density..."Our closeness makes us vulnerable. But our closeness is what makes us who we are - connected to each other and accepting of each other."

Mitt Romney has tested negative, which is good news, not only for him, but also for his wife, Ann (she has MS).

Congress poised to pass Coronavirus #StimulusPackage
Includes:
-Individuals: $1200 ( Income $75-99K )
-Couples: $2400 ( Income $150K-198K )
-Children: $500
**Income levels would be from 2018 taxes

I've seen two posters post separate information, both links reputable. Is it Income, or Earned income? Two different things. MOO. Anyone have a hard answer?

Trudea specifically today said earned income...

This great news! Now for those ventilators...

30,811 tested positive for #COVID19 in New York; 12% hospitalized and 3% in ICU. "All the noise, all the energy, it's about that 3%. Take a deep breath."

@JerseyGirl can we have a thread for the government economic package please ?

Usually, when we do the major cases, folks can start a sub thread if they have posted more than 20 times or so. Have you tried to start a subthread for such?
