Walking from the chair to the fridge here....
I'm so sorry, I had too!
But you are right; REAL exercise is so important for the mind and body.
I had to radically alter my exercise routine since getting sober over a decade ago. My absolute favorite exercise was doing multiple reps of "12 oz. bicep curls."
For those of you who have the correct "barbells" close by or at a store near you, here's some tips:
So easy to do:
You can tone those muscles while sitting (or slouching) on the couch
Each 12 oz. bicep curl provides an instant reward (yay Pavlov!)
If you need to increase weight, you can do it in increments of 12 oz. / 16 oz./ 40 oz
If you chill your "barbells" they can also be used as an ice pack, or placed against warm cheeks
It's best to work one arm at a time, but make sure to switch hands for a balanced result
Extra benefit: jog to fridge or potty between reps (note: Feel free to teach your dog how to access and deliver a fresh "barbell" to cut jogging time in half)
As always, check with your practitioner before starting any exercise plan!
