idk but my dad is dying right now in hospital and no one is allowed to be with him, not even my mom
Hugs! I’m so sorry for your dad and family. I cannot imagine. I will say a prayer for your family.
Locally, a lady posted on Fb asking a nurse to please stop in her mom’s hospital room to tell her mom who she loved her and hoped someone could hold her mom’s hand as she was dying. Mom was a former nurse. This happened a day or so after the hospital activated a no visitor policy. I’m so appreciative that my sister and I were able to be with my mom as she died.

Just a thought, cooking to 142f kills this virus. If you buy takeout and are concerned, to be extra safe, reheat meal in microwave or oven.

My concern was the person doing the cooking at their food establishment. I cant be sure if they are healthy or not.

From the article:

Our experience dealing with multiple outbreaks of Ebola offers some lessons that could be helpful in addressing Covid-19. Some of these are more specific to the African context, but most apply anywhere.

Protect health care workers. This is emerging as a major priority, as the coronavirus begins to overwhelm the health care system in the United States. ...

[...]

Aggressively push back against rumor and disinformation with frequent, fact-based communication. ...
[...]

Engage the local community. Some of our best and most effective outreach during the Ebola outbreak in the DRC was done through trusted members of the community. ...

[...]

Use faith-based networks. Faith leaders are often among the most trusted members of a community ...

[...]

Test, test, test. As we are finding in the United States, you can't treat it if you can't see it. ...

A close friend of ours is in Peru. He started out doing missionary work along with our pastor's daughter and SIL who live there. He fell in love and married a Peruvian girl last year and they were planning to come back for a 6 month visit. Obviously they won't be coming now but they sent pictures of guards at every river dock. Absolutely no one is allowed on the docks.

I guess I didn't realize that only certain folks were allowed in public to shop. You know there may be good reasons why a child has to go with their parent to the store. I am raising a 9 year old autistic child. I would almost always prefer to shop alone, but I get so uneasy leaving him alone, that I usually make him go with me. While I understand the importance of all the directives, and adhering to them to the best of our abilities, you don't know the circumstances of any or all of the folks you encounter, perhaps they really just need compassion and understanding over judgment and condemnation.

Moore asks residents to limit numbers, purchases at grocery stores - WTAD

I have read many suggestions & I believe one country enforced the one person rule. Moo
My understanding is children carry this & more are now contracting the ugly virus.
If we have an outbreak of canine parvovirus, I personally would not visit parks with my my dog.
So, I don’t understand a family of 4-5 all piling in a box store. Seems disrespectful to the front line and public, imo.

The coronavirus may be deadlier than the 1918 flu: Here's how it stacks up to other pandemics
[...]

Some scientists estimate that millions will ultimately die before COVID-19 runs its course. There’s a lot that infectious disease specialists and scientists still don’t know about the virus. Exactly how deadly and contagious COVID-19 is, is still a matter of debate.

COVID-19
  • R naught (a mathematical term that indicates how contagious an infectious disease is): 2
  • Mortality rate: 4.5% (this number is in flux)
  • World population: 7.8 billion
[...]

A variety of factors affects the mortality rate: geography, the quality of health care, age of the population, life style and underlying conditions. In China, the mortality rate for CV-19 has been 4%. In Italy, it’s about 10%. In Iran, it’s about 7.6%. In Germany, it’s less than 1% and in the U.S., where the outbreak is just getting underway, it’s about 1.5%.

The mortality rate generally drops as testing rises and more patients are identified. But epidemiologists caution that the reverse can be true as U.S. hospitals get inundated and run out of necessary equipment, like ventilators, to treat patients who might have otherwise been saved.

Yes. It is almost impossible at times.

Ive concluded that we should just try to do as much safety precautions as possible and know that we may fail in some of our efforts but at least we are reducing the frequency and opportunity for the Virus to get us. Every little bit of prevention we do is helping to keep us and others safe and healthy.
It is very upsetting to see so many blatantly disregarding guidelines. Especially since so much is unknown. Moo

I have been getting so many emails about supporting local business to get take out food. My heart is heavy that many places are struggling but I personally cant not take the chance of getting sick. Sad situation all around.
I feel the same way. I share the Facebook posts because I know people still need to use carry out and the businesses need them. But for me, no. Just too risky. MOO.

Children can get infected just as adults, but they are more likely to be asymptomatic or have minor symptoms. Thus they could very well be carriers, and it's nearly impossible to make children adhere to social distancing rules. It's kind of hard to be understanding when this virus could easily kill elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.

NOLO.com not free, but very reasonable and highly recommended.

Question: my daughter will be 19 in April and in order to have access to her medical information or, God forbid, need to make medical decisions for her, I will need a temporary power of attorney. I did a google search for free forms (Florida), but the options are overwhelming.

Has anyone downloaded legal forms online from a reputable website that you could direct me to? TIA!

In addition to saying "I love you" in words, you can also sign the words in American Sign Language. This method is the universal way to say "I love you," no matter what language you speak.
To do this: Spread out your hand and bend down the middle finger and the ring finger, leaving the others up and out. You can do this gesture from across a room to let your significant other know you love them or simply do it whenever the mood strikes and you want to be silent in your declaration of love.

EXCLUSIVE: Top CDC official warns New York's coronavirus outbreak is just a preview
[...]

“I think what we're seeing in New York City and New York State right now is a real warning to other areas about what may happen or what may already be starting to happen, and these efforts to make sure that our health care system’s ready and that we can protect the most vulnerable before we ease up on the social measures that are in place,” she said. “The measures are meant to be used in a layered way, and it may be possible that selected ones might be eased up on. But as I talk to colleagues around the world who are facing different stages of this epidemic, I think we are all trying to make sure we have the very best information about how to ease up and also about how to minimize the unintended consequences, the negative consequences of the mitigation effort.”
