Coronavirus COVID-19 - Global Health Pandemic #37

I've not kept up with this thread but just wanted to add that I think Arizona-ians are getting braver and going out even more as there is no mandate to stay in. This is ridiculous. Utterly irresponsible and ridiculous that there has been no mandate to stay in. Yes, I'm talking to you Gov. Ducey, for starters...

Is this non-essential PPE use?

Today I got a call from a representative of a home health company I used in November and December after back surgery. She wanted to know how I am doing and said if I need help again be sure to ask for them. I suspect their numbers are down.

I took the opportunity to ask how their nurses, physical and occupational therapists are protecting themselves and their clients. She said they are wearing masks, disposable gowns and shoe covers. I know for myself, none of these healthcare workers was essential after my surgery, except maybe a couple of visits by the nurse. I could have done without the rest, but it was nice to have.

So all these PPEs are being used by mostly non-essential workers IMO. She was calling from southern CA and I am in southern Oregon. Our governor is begging the federal government for PPEs. I’m sure CA is short too.

I’m afraid experts were possibly wrong when this all started & will discover more kids and young adults will be seriously ill. Do we have enough pediatric ventilators?

Relatives can't visit either. So it really sucks. But alternative is worse.

You are correct. Residents are so isolated without a pandemic, without the visit restrictions. This just makes it even worse. And yes, the alternative is even worse. Did you think I was implying that it wasn't?

Neither is MSM.

Scientists may not comment because it doesn't fit the desired narrative, IMO. People are doing what needs to be done now by distancing and staying home, which slows the spread. That is good.

MSM media won't comment for their own reasons as well, IMO.
I don't know what the desired narrative is, but I am assuming it would be what this model is trying to claim-that you don't need so many hospital beds. People who do modeling can make their model do whatever they want. What exactly supports the idea that half of population in UK has already been infected?
Certainly you see in Italy number of deaths and infections are very large. In US you also see the infections and deaths climbing rapidly.
So UK is somehow different? I doubt that very much.

How ridiculous. But with no gov’t directive, I guess they feel safe? Idk why, but a lot of people can think of reasons they should be exempt even though they are risking many lives including their own. Moo

AARP Community Connections is helping people across the country form and connect with mutual aid groups online as a way to combat that helplessness and provide much-needed assistance to their communities — without putting themselves or their neighbors at risk.

"With AARP Community Connections, we have created a platform for anyone seeking support or looking to offer it," says Rick Robinson, VP of AARP's Innovation Labs group. "AARP has been promoting the health and welfare of Americans for 60 years. That mission has never been more important and we hope people of all ages find the help they need through this site."

Over the course of this pandemic, mutual aid groups could be crucial to those who are elderly, immunosuppressed, unemployed or otherwise vulnerable. AARP has created a platform to help communities organize these groups and keep neighbors connected.

Whether you want to start a new mutual aid group in your town or find an existing group that can help you, the AARP Mutual Aid website is a great place to start. It has helpful resources such as health guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along with virtual town halls, as well as instructions on how to form a mutual aid group on your favorite platforms including Slack, Nextdoor, Google and Patch.

"For the first time, Dr. Amy Acton showed the current model of the trajectory of Ohio’s infectious disease curve. Dr. Acton said without the measures the state has taken, today would have been the peak."
Coronavirus in Ohio Thursday update: 867 COVID-19 cases confirmed, 15 deaths
She also said that even with the stay at home measures taken we will soon be seeing 6000 - 8000 new cases each day!

Coronavirus: State could see 6,000-8,000 new cases a day during surge, Acton says

As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases climbs and jobless claims explode, Gov. Mike DeWine implored Ohioans to stay home to give hospitals time to get ready for an anticipated 6,000 to 8,000 new cases a day when the pandemic peaks across the state in the coming weeks.

CT - Debate about Gun Stores being "ESSENTIAL"

Curious how many other states have slipped "GUN STORES" into the essential business category such that they are allowed to remain open during the pandemic?

Domestic Violence advocates have called on Gov. Lamont to SHUT DOWN the gun stores but he has refused to address the issue that has many folks concerned about personal safety during a time of crisis.

Right Now in CT its COVID19 + Groceries, Gas, ALCOHOL and GUNS AND AMMO!!!

Do we really need more guns and ammo amidst at time of crisis? Recent reports suggest that avg. gun owner has 3 guns and 6 months worth of ammo....

MOO

My gosh, that could spell disaster. Our state hasn't ordered shelter-in-place but the calls to the domestic violence hotline have skyrocketed.

Chart: The coronavirus pandemic, state by state
At the same time, we may still be under-testing in other parts of the country as well. Michigan has nearly as many confirmed Covid-19 cases as California, even though it has tested a much smaller share of people. Florida and Massachusetts have about the same number of positive tests, but the latter has tested at a much more robust rate. High positive test rates suggest that the real number of cases is much larger than the official count.

...
But I despise touching the keypad for putting my pin in on card purchases above £30 that needs addressing somehow.

For quick trips, I grab a napkin or PT from the car. I use it to open the door to the store and the keypad, toss the napkin in the garbage, and use a pocket hand sanitizer before getting back in the car.
