Whoa! (This news is not off- topic since Federer's decision materialized during the quarantine.) SAD!
-----------------------------------------------------
BREAKING NEWS: Roger Federer announces retirement from tennis
The news that all Roger Federer fans didn't want to hear in the end arrived. The Swiss Maestro officially announced his tennis retirement from professional tennis.

Federer confirmed this sad news through a touching post published on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

...The only thing Roger said on Twitter is that his injury, along with the interruption of tennis for the quarantine, gave him a lot of time to talk to his family.

...
Don't worry, it's not true. Hope this cheers you up!

From the end of the article:
Truth to be told, Roger Federer can still win several Grand Slam titles, cause this is of course a joke as it's April fool's day!

Dear readers, don't you worry, Roger Federer hasn't actually made any official announcement about the future and is career will still continue.

I was shrugged off as a hysteric for suggesting to my family to start preparing mid February.
I so WISH I was wrong.

Remember when I was literally mocked to my face for wearing latex gloves at the grocery store? And got in an argument at the checkout line with the clerk and people in line who said “it’s just the flu, it’s a conspiracy, it’s media hype...”

I wish I was so wrong too.

I too took a LOT of crap in the beginning as you all know.

We are here now.

So anyway I’m 3 WHO PCs behind as well as behind on the latest Cuomo and WH conferences.

Maybe I’ll put Doc T and Mike on speaker as I try to get some stuff done around here. Bleach the crap out of this place after handling delivery items.

I haven’t been able to concentrate on anything at all since this all started!

I’m feeling my focus returning now that there is “acceptance” and I’m getting over the shock and dread.

I just want to get things in order around here. I’ve neglected many household things bc of all of this.

And time to get that yoga thing going too.

Today was first day that I managed makeup. I have been wearing perfume (to test my sense of smell each morning,). I almost feel like I could be sort of productive...tomorrow.

And everyone I know who is in their homes feels the same way. Working my way up to regular walks outside the house.
Lip color junkie here. If COVID-19 doesn't get me, the lead and other chemicals will ;)

Wouldn’t the cruise lines have an emergency plan in place? They are based somewhere, right? Return to your home registry? Take care of passengers and your crew?

We used to do emergency drills 3 times a year at work- as if an actual emergency takes place, notify authorities 24 hours prior that it is just a drill, suit up, etc.

I so WISH I was wrong.

I started prepping mid-February. Just buying double what I would ordinarily buy. Checking my inventory of cleaners and food staples. Bought yeast, flour and sugar. Took me about three weeks. I mentioned it to friends, but no one else acted.

Now I'm in good shape, and some of them are scrambling.

They are probably doing their "plan", "go to the United States"

I started wearing gloves early on, but at first I was wearing regular gloves to not stand out. Of course you can't sanitize regular gloves like you would do with rubber gloves. But I purchased the work gloves that had rubber insides and still kind of looked like regular gloves, LOL.
Even if you wear gloves, you need to change them, or sanitize them a lot. It's easier with disposable rubber gloves.

I’m working my way up to shaving my legs. Or not. :D

:mad:This is ridiculous! The passengers had to of known when they walked on those ships that there was a pandemic upon us. AND Carnival shouldn’t have even been operating.
The Zaadam was supposed to end its tour in San Antonio, Chile. And began its tour in Argentina. Not one part nor one port of that tour had anything to do with the USA. The ship is flagged in Holland. Meaning they don't pay any USA dictated minimum wage, they don't have to follow environmental rules of the USA, and they don't pay any taxes in the USA.

Why didn't they stay in the Pacific and head for California? Did they get advance notice from the governor of Florida that if they made it thru the Panama Canal they could dock in Florida? They had to have some official incentive to come to Florida, IMO.

I've been following this conversation, and I too feel badly for people who made bad choices, but this is on par with planning to send "surplus" ventilators to Europe when when we need them ourselves, or $100,000,000 of medical supplies to Italy because we don't need those supplies ourselves.

Meanwhile entire online forums and youtube channels are dedicated to citizens' making masks to help protect medical staff. And there is a run on vacuum cleaner bags to provide some filtration.

AND, Trump said he wanted to use part of the stimulus bill to make the cruise ship companies "vibrant".

Trump says $1 trillion coronavirus relief package will ‘help everybody’

I guess a good share of the population pay little attention to world news. We all had/have access to the exact same info, google is our friend.

Regarding cruise ships left to drift with no place to dock. I realize no state or area should have to shoulder the responsibility for docking all the cruise ships, but as a humane society, we can't allow them to drift endlessly until everyone on board dies. If this is what our society has become, then we should be ashamed. The cruise lines have canceled all the cruises, so at least let the ships remaining at sea to dock.

MOO
Why can't they dock in the country each ship is registered in?

Return to your home registry may be a third world country (see my previous post). Many cruise ships are registered in "less expensive" areas. Not what you would think.

How's taking you to Hong Kong, Vanuatu, Malta, Marshall Islands sound? See registries.

"As the market always determines the prices, often choosing a flag state means minimizing costs to maximize the revenue. And for a cruise ship owner, making a choice between using the fiscal advantages of registering ships in the open registry (under "Flag of Convenience") and registration in a national/close registry means making a choice between good business and not so good business."

Thanks, everyone, for being here and sharing your stories. Makes me feel more sane to be with like-minded people.

@otto How is your son? Wasn't he trying to return home?

Hoping he is safe and all is well.

Thanks for asking. He is home, but not staying at home. He flew out of Melbourne on March 19, just in time. He was quite sick with bronchitis when he came home, but his cough has since cleared.

He has just completed his 2 weeks self-isolation and is now moving in with 3 buddies. He's stopping by this afternoon and we'll have a short visit on the driveway 20 feet apart from each other. I have read that infected people can shed virus for a couple of weeks after they have no symptoms.
