Coronavirus: COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow postponed for a year

Coronavirus: COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow postponed for a year

The UN summit on tackling climate change meant to be held in Britain this winter has been postponed because of coronavirus.

The conference has been pushed back to 2021 following a decision by the UN's convention on climate change and the UK, but no specific date named.

Plans for it had been put on the backburner for some weeks, as governments around the world diverted resources to fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

Preparatory meetings due to be held by officials from across the world were cancelled, in Columbia and Germany, due to international travel shutting down.

Just a small tip for those clenching their teeth when stressed. Push your tongue to the roof of your mouth. May save a headache and sore jaws.
I have a horrible clenching habit. I broke it totally with this tip! Great advice, IMHO only.
I started prepping mid-February. Just buying double what I would ordinarily buy. Checking my inventory of cleaners and food staples. Bought yeast, flour and sugar. Took me about three weeks. I mentioned it to friends, but no one else acted.

Now I'm in good shape, and some of them are scrambling.
This is exactly what I did. I can even remember commenting as we drove around how crowded, packed the stores were. This was on or about March 7th(we were not shopping just getting supplies from our camper in storage).

I was so glad my supplies were bought.

Costco, Meijer etc was packed. Mr Pirate said it looked like Christmas only worse and thanked me over and over for being such a “nut” Lol. This was right around the time Michigan has its first case. I said “ well if Coronavirus was not running wild in Michigan before, it is now”. Sure enough a few short weeks later my neighborhood is a hot bed.

Gov Cuomo presser live MSNBC- Closing down neighborhood playgrounds since compliance of social distancing still not happening by those seeking the parks for swings, basketball courts, etc. He says he tried to ask for compliance and warned of this happening. Open spaces will still be available.

"As a society we should start looking forward to how this experience is going to change us/ or should change us. This will be a transformative experience. We don't get back to normal - we get to a new normal. Let's take the positive lessons and not the negative lessons with us. We must learn and grow."

Those of us that survive - I can just see years past still wiping down groceries, sanitizing doors and playground equipment. Sort of like my Great Depression dad who went around turning off light switches everytime someone left a room.

I completely agree with you. I can't believe it's been going on this long.

ETA - We have ALL done willfully stupid things. ALL of us. Much of the time, we've gotten away with it. These folks did not, this time. There is no reason to keep this situation going.

IMO, most of us make the right choice when faced with a life or death situation. My husband and I knew better than two go on a two week road trip. Those people willingly rolled the dice despite knowing what the situation was. At some they need to take responsibility for their actions. Who do they expect to pick up the tab, anyways?

Thanks for asking. He is home, but not staying at home. He flew out of Melbourne on March 19, just in time. He was quite sick with bronchitis when he came home, but his cough has since cleared.

He has just completed his 2 weeks self-isolation and is now moving in with 3 buddies. He's stopping by this afternoon and we'll have a short visit on the driveway 20 feet apart from each other. I have read that infected people can shed virus for a couple of weeks after they have no symptoms.
@otto so glad to hear this! Now, how about his buddies? Are they safe?

I was late knowing about the virus - I never read the news. I really only found out about it in March.

ETA, now I am glued to this thread for updates.

The important exception is the bathroom. “Several studies have come out regarding the role of feco-oral transmission of this virus, in addition to respiratory droplets,” said Dr. Soni. In other words, when he uses the bathroom, your sick loved one is shedding virus in the form of gross flying poop particles.

If a separate bathroom isn’t possible, all the experts we consulted suggested to wipe down your bathroom every day, and especially after the sick person has used it—along with putting disinfectant in the toilet bowl, and wiping down high-touch surfaces like the faucet handles and toilet handles with disinfectant. And make sure your sick loved one closes the toilet bowl lid and washes his hands.
How to Care for Kids if You're Sick With Covid-19

I was thinking of large, public restrooms, like casinos, airports, arenas. Most have lidless toilets now & auto flush features. The flush almost sounds like a small aircraft preparing for take off. Think of the germs flying thru the air when 7-8 get flushed simultaneously.

BREAKING Six-week-old baby dies of coronavirus becoming America's 'youngest victim'

A six-week-old baby has died from coronavirus, becoming what is believed to be America's youngest victim.

The child died in Connecticut last week, with test results from last night showing that the youngster had Covid-19.

Governor of Connecticut Ned Lamont tweeted: "It is with heartbreaking sadness today that we can confirm the first pediatric fatality in Connecticut linked to #COVID19. A 6-week-old newborn from the Hartford area was brought unresponsive to a hospital late last week and could not be revived.

Six-week-old baby dies of coronavirus becoming America's 'youngest victim'

This news is desperately sad and tragic. My thoughts and prayers go out to the little one's loved ones.

This is so horrible! 6 weeks old!!! We all know babies do not have an immune system at this age. I would like to know who in the family has it and could it have been avoided? Like I'm so interested in the asymptomatic cases. Those case do not show symptoms, so those individuals can pass the virus and not even know it! It's so scary! That is why my family has tried to stay confined in our home. We go out for necessities but even that trip may get us and we know that!

The Zaadam was supposed to end its tour in San Antonio, Chile. And began its tour in Argentina. Not one part nor one port of that tour had anything to do with the USA. The ship is flagged in Holland. Meaning they don't pay any USA dictated minimum wage, they don't have to follow environmental rules of the USA, and they don't pay any taxes in the USA.

Why didn't they stay in the Pacific and head for California? Did they get advance notice from the governor of Florida that if they made it thru the Panama Canal they could dock in Florida? They had to have some official incentive to come to Florida, IMO.
zaandam update

Maybe some of the quotes will answer your question or add information:

The ship was originally scheduled to arrive at Port Everglades on April 7 at the end of a 31-day cruise that originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 7, and made stops along the coast of South America. Holland America has confirmed that 411 passengers were booked on the 31-day cruise. The remaining passengers were booked on shorter segments, including a 14 day cruise that was scheduled to end in San Antonio, Chile. Since the cruise was terminated before arriving at San Antonio, all those passengers remain on the ship. After arriving at Port Everglades on April 7, the ship was scheduled to go into dry dock for two weeks, then return to Port Everglades to leave for Canada on the first leg of its reposi
...
There are 1,243 passengers aboard the Zaandam, including 305 U.S. citizens and 247 Canadians. There are 49 Florida residents on board, including several Broward County residents.
...
Holland America Line has been a primary customer for Port Everglades since the mid-1930s. Further the Zaandam was christened at Port Everglades by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in May 2000.

This cruise season, October 2019 through May 2020, Holland America had 11 cruise ships scheduled to sail from Port Everglades, including Zaandam.

...
Btw. It is Netherlands, not Holland

I just love Trudie's posts that give us visuals. Trudie has opened my eyes to many things.
THANKS my dear TRUDIE.

Two weeks ago I had a social worker, intern and a nurse in a HOSPITAL either roll their eyes or laugh when I mentioned Coronavirus. Really pissed me off.
A few weeks ago I told my GP that we had my parents in isolation. She asked why! I just shook my head and left. Now, they are pushing video appointments!

I’m working my way up to shaving my legs. Or not. :D
I started on mine this morning. I didn’t get far before the razor clogged up. I decided I’ll work a bit on it daily. :D

I had the same reaction from most of my doctors offices. In one doctor's office, my husband went for his appt., but I didn't and he said my wife stayed home because of what is going on, and the nurse actually, said, "why, what is going on." In this same office as of today, no one (nurses and doctor) are wearing masks or gloves. Wht is this about? I am mad, and stunned. Thanks, Katt

I wish I could find some. Stores are limiting the amount of items you can buy but I still have not seen any toilet paper for two weeks.
I keep expecting someone to start selling TP rolls out of their garage soon.
Do you have disinfectant spray? If so, maybe we should start bartering.:D

@otto so glad to hear this! Now, how about his buddies? Are they safe?

All four are off work at this time. We're pretty sure that my son got the virus in Melbourne and that the symptoms lasted for 3-4 weeks because he was not resting. When he first got sick, he used the phrase "never so sick in my entire life." That turned into bronchitis, which is not normal for a healthy 24 year old athlete.

There is no antibody test available here at this time, but he will follow up as soon as one is available.

Connecticut governor says people will have to wait FIVE WEEKS for their unemployment checks and laid off workers in New York say they still can't get through to apply

Connecticut governor says people will have to wait FIVE WEEKS for their unemployment checks | Daily Mail Online

This is terrible. People really need help ASAP.

One of the most terrible aspects of this epidemic will be the economic consequences. We have not handled this reasonably or well. I hope for better next time.

And there are so many people needing help, I do not have a clue how to begin to help.

He’s the new Luv Guv.

Women are crushing on Gov. Andrew Cuomo — calling his coronavirus press briefings their daily “fix” — during this state of emergency.

Denise Albert, a 45-year-old divorcée on the Upper West Side, is officially smitten.

“For me, it was when I heard him say, ‘My mother is light and joy,’” said Albert, co-founder of multimedia company The Moms.

Trudie, have you checked out “our” Gov’s meme page on Facebook with 15K members? It’s hilarious. And women are crushing on him, but only in a respectful way. And his sign language gal is a major hit, too. Anyway, if you need a smile, check out the Beshear meme page on FB.

(I say “our” because I’m still not used to KY not being my home. Last weekend I was supposed to be on vacation In Louisville. Now I don’t know when I can return or when my friends can come see me. I had a long list of people I needed to hug.)
