Social Security checks do not always cover one's bills. I think most people on SS supplement their income by working part time. Many have lost those side jobs. JMO
We have some guys that are in their seventy's that are drivers that work 3 days a week where I work. Business has dropped off so they are not getting as many hours as before.

I'm sure that hurts them. JMO.

From their own supply plus purchases they have and will be making. I would imagine that they have a ton of masks on hand.

Who, where?

I need to call my father in MI, he gets a good retirement from Kellogg’s as well as SS. I can’t see how Covid increased his cost of living or his monthly expenses, but I’m not 100% certain. I feel like I’m missing a key factor.
If a person works, even PT, they can draw UI.
If he has been ordering by delivery , he has spent more than he usually does. The prices are much higher, and he probably ordered much more food in order to stock up for a month or more. Like 4x his usual food bill so far.

And if his retirement funds are in a 401k, he has lost a bunch of savings, most likely.

these are indeed terrible numbers. I wonder how good their health systems are? Apparently it's pretty good. However they have a very large elderly population.

France has the best health care system in the world:

France's health-care system was ranked as the world's best—Here's how it compares with the US'

They have a higher life expectancy than we do. The French are healthier than us as well despite a diet full of butter and bread and wine.

Moreover, per Wikipedia, 62% of France’s population is between 15 and 65. But 63% of Americans are between 18-65.

20% of their population is over 65 and 13% of ours is over 65. So yes, their population is older than us.

And 79% of their deaths have been of those over the age of 75.

However, as of 3-19-20, our stats have been much grimmer.

20% of our deaths have been of people between the ages of 20-64. But only 1-7% of their COVID-19 deaths has been between those ages.

Coronavirus: age of patients in France 2020 | Statista

20% of US COVID-19 Deaths Were Aged 20-64

We stand to fare far worse than France, IMO, when it comes to the ages of those who die as well as the rate of those testing positive who don’t make it.

(CNN)Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's top medical expert on the coronavirus pandemic and a member of President Donald Trump's coronavirus task force, is facing threats to his personal safety and now requires personal security from law enforcement at all times, including at his home, a source confirms to CNN.

A law enforcement official told CNN that the Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General, the agency's law enforcement arm, asked the US Marshals Service for assistance following threats to Fauci. The Marshals then deputized HHS officers to act as personal security for the doctor.

A source also confirmed to CNN last week the presence of several members of the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Police Department stationed at all times around Fauci's home in the district. The source added the stepped up visible police presence was a response to growing threats to Fauci's safety, though the source of the threats was not identified.

During the White House coronavirus task force briefing with reporters on Wednesday, Fauci was asked whether he or White House coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx, who also serves on the task force, had received threats of any kind or whether they had been assigned a security detail. He said he was not able to answer.

"Anything that has to do with security detail I would have to have you (ask your question) to the inspector general of HHS," he said, referencing the Department of Health and Human Services.

Fauci's response was quickly interrupted by Trump, who stepped up to the podium to say the nation's most visible infectious disease expert doesn't require protection.

"(He) doesn't need security, everybody loves them," said Trump. "Besides that, they'd be in big trouble if they ever attacked."

However, as Fauci's profile in the pandemic crisis has grown, so has the concern for his welfare. Fauci's guidance to Trump for the country to remain as locked down as possible to help control the virus spread has not earned fans among some fervent right-wing voices.

Fauci was among the health advisers on Trump's team encouraging a continuation of the current guidelines after the President heard from business leaders and some conservative allies that the restrictions were more damaging than the virus itself.

In fact, Trump's decision to extend those guidelines came after Fauci and Birx gave a strong presentation with the new models that showed 100,000 to 200,000 people could die, a source familiar with the President's decision told CNN.

"You don't make the timeline, the virus makes the timeline," Fauci told CNN last month when asked about how long the novel coronavirus could affect daily life in the US.

"You may see in a relatively shorter period of time, when you're seeing the inkling of the flattening and coming down," he said in reference to slowing the speed of the outbreak. "But you know, you can't make an arbitrary decision until you see what you're dealing with. You need the data."

That's what I am hoping. We get 1099's, so we file taxes every year. But we haven;'t filed this year yet, for 2019 taxes. I hope that is not a problem.

I gotcha covered. :) No it’s not a problem if I’m understanding correctly what I’m posting over in the stimulus thread. Take a look when you get a chance, I’m just getting it rolling, but I believe your concern is addressed in there if I grabbed the appropriate snippets:

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act

IMO no one should be denied. The prisoners being released from jail due to the pandemic will receive a stimulus check as long as they filed a tax return, even though the tax payers have been paying for their room and board for however long they were incarcerated. I was employed for 50 years and paid into SS every paycheck. If I died tomorrow, my SS goes back to the government. Why should I be denied? JMO

I draw the line on prisoners who are free to re-offend because of the virus. Their feeble sense of self preservation will not prevent them from continuing to living as criminals.

Convicted prisoners should not be given a reprieve, except when the people keeping them incarcerated give them a fatal respiratory virus. That's overkill. If their keepers spread the virus, and they are sick, they should be transferred to a different facility. Didn't we hear that some states have no problem with the virus. Maybe they can accommodate extra prisoners.

Lol, where he lives in western MI a cell phone is out of the question internet is dial up only. Do you think grocery prices online soared but not in the brick & mortar?

He was also speaking to his health on CNN earlier. He’s trying to eat regularly and get more sleep, his wife is watching him closely. Poor guy.

Source of the threats was not identified. I posted the entire article. Maybe more info will come out later this morning

Or build more prisons.

For many individuals who develop symptoms of the coronavirus, it's better to stay home than seek health care in person. But when you have a disease with so many unknowns, not having a nurse or doctor to monitor your condition can be nerve-wracking.

Pulse Oximeter

It's an electronic hand-held device that measures the saturation of oxygen carried in a person's red blood cells, according to the American Lung Association. You usually attach it to your fingertip to get a reading.

"It calculates the oxygen level based on how red the blood is," Dr. Eric Cioe-Pena, an emergency medicine physician at Northwell Health in New York City, told TODAY. He added that it can detect changes in oxygen saturation "pretty readily."

"That's useful because in COVID-19, one of the things we're seeing is people with severe pneumonias who come to the hospital have low oxygen levels," Cioe-Pena said. "One of the ways you can monitor high-risk patients is by asking to get a pulse oximeter they can use at home."

The device helps patients when they're feeling short of breath answer the question, "Is this something that's serious and I need to go to the hospital, or this something I can wait and see about?" Cioe-Pena explained. A reading below 90 merits contacting your doctor "sooner rather than later," he added.
Most of these devices cost around $20-$60.

These devices can monitor coronavirus symptoms at home — but do you need one?
I have been checking mine a few times a day...It is very comforting to see a high oxygen number if you cough a few times, and doubt creeps in....
