During Thursday's coronavirus task force briefing, Trump claimed that the U.S. is testing “more than any other country in the world both in terms of the raw number, and also on a per capita basis, the most.”

We've fact-checked Trump's previous testing claims — and while it is technically true that the U.S. has run more tests for the disease caused by the virus than any other country, Trump is wrong on the issue of testing per capita.

The U.S. is not testing the same share of its population as other countries, a key measure that indicates the U.S. lags behind other nations. As of Thursday, April 2, the U.S has done more than 1.3 million COVID-19 tests. That's about one in every 250 Americans. South Korea, as of the same date, has tested about one in every 118 people. Read more fact checks here.

Fact check: Trump falsely claims U.S. is testing more people per capita than other countries

Just curious, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Two neighbors across the street have decided that they are going to "quarantine together"...not together in one house, but allow their two families to get together and to let their kids run about the neighborhood together. There are ten people between both houses. However, we have seen people coming and going into each of the houses separately.

I feel so extremely irritated, but not sure what to do. Do I say nothing and let them live their own lives or do I, as a friendly and elder neighbor, politely share my concerns?

Last night they went so far as to have a fire pit, a cookout, a party together and all the kids were screaming and dancing on the roof of their shed. I think it is selfish and is hurtful (in man you ways) to all the other neighbor kids that can't go see their friends or family members.

To top it all off, one family is a pastor's family.
I imagine they don't care much what others think. They found a way to entertain their families and are aware of what can happen. I think it would make other children want to join in the play which could drive parents crazy having to explain why those kids can play together without them. I would say something if I had a child seeing those kids playing and begging to join.

Chinese county goes into coronavirus lockdown amid fear of second wave

This story is being published by POLITICO as part of a content partnership with the South China Morning Post. It originally appeared on scmp.com on April 1, 2020.

Henan province in central China has taken the drastic measure of putting a mid-sized county in total lockdown as authorities try to fend off a second coronavirus wave in the midst of a push to revive the economy.

Curfew-like measures came into effect on Tuesday in Jia county, near the city of Pingdingshan, with the area’s roughly 600,000 residents told to stay home, according to a notice on the country’s official microblog account

Special approval was required for all movement outside the home, it said.

After months of restrictions to contain the spread of the coronavirus, China has reported a decline in domestic cases of Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. On Wednesday, the National Health Commission reported 36 new infections — all but one imported cases.

Chinese leaders are eager to restart the economy but have stressed that it must be balanced with containment measures.

During his recent inspection trip to Zhejiang province, President Xi Jinping emphasised that China must take careful steps to get life back to normal and warned officials to ensure “no loopholes” to prevent a return of the epidemic that has sickened more than 82,000 and killed over 3,300 people in mainland China alone.

According to the Jia county notice, residents must have special permits to leave their home and must have their temperature taken and wear face masks for those trips.

All businesses have been shut down, except utilities, medical suppliers, logistics companies and food processing firms. All shops except supermarkets, hospitals, food markets, petrol stations, pharmacies and hotels have been closed.

I'm trying to spread some love here.

So I did a thing. I've spent years driving from store to store for my working lifestyle. I seriously don't know my neighbors. I've been skulking around, trying to identify who of my nameless neighbors live alone. Tonight I left notes at their front doors. Knocked and ran back from the door. Introduced myself and told them my cell number was on the note.

"Chinese county goes into coronavirus lockdown amid fear of second wave"

If this is true, that has major ramifications to the US. We could be stuck in futures waves of this, and that means a lot of bad thing for the economy, health care, mental health, and about 100 other things. We can barely quarantine now. How are we going to do it for a long sustained time?

This is amazing, and more than anything I would do. Thanks for the inspiration to do better.

That's really cute. Everyone I know is on whatsapp and last night I was flicking thru the queue and had a conversation with the wrong person until we both realized it. 2 guys named Sebastian both interested in wildflowers. But completely different countries.

Let's find out who has antibodies while we work out vaccines and treatments. I really don't want to accept a future that looks like the last few weeks.

A lot of these people are elderly. I dunno if they use apps. The note said "call or text if you need anything, or need to talk". Jmo

“The state-owned Javits Center has been turned into a 2,500-bed emergency medical facility being run by the US Army. The original plan for Javits was that it be used to take non-Covid patients from hospitals to open up hospital beds,” Cuomo announced. “However, the number of Covid positive patients has increased so dramatically that it would be beneficial to the state if Javits could accept Covid positive patients."

Cuomo added: "I asked President Trump this morning to consider the request and the urgency of the matter, and the President has just informed me that he granted New York's request. I thank the President for his cooperation in this pressing matter and his expeditious decision making."

Here are death rate stats for 50 countries. You can show all 5o records on one page by clicking the dropdown next to Records and then sort from high to low. I'm surprised at how European countries are higher than the US and wonder if it's just because we haven't hit our peak yet. As an example, UK is almost at 8% which is crazy to me.

MOO...While difficult for other parents in the neighborhood to deal with, this is an opportunity for those parents to begin teaching their child/children that Life Is Not Always Fair and that parents cannot always make life fair for them (their child/children) no matter how much they might wish to.

I would remain silent and focus on my own children or grandchildren.

NYC mayor says he told Trump to mobilize the military

Mayor Bill de Blasio said he told President Trump during a phone call Thursday that “a full mobilization of the military is needed" in New York City.

[...[

De Blasio says he also told the President that it’s time to enlist medical personnel on a national basis.

“We don’t have the same kind of draft we used to have. But we’re gonna have to create something new, right now, at this moment in history, to enlist all available medical personnel from around the country with medical training — and I mean civilians — anyone with medical training, anywhere in the country, who can be spared by their city, their town, their state, to come to to the front,” de Blasio added. “And right now it’s New York City.”

Medical supplies seized from seller accused of hoarding get redistributed

The Health and Human Services Department said Thursday it used its authority under the Defense Production Act to distribute roughly 192,000 N95 respirator masks and a large haul of other scarce medical supplies that the FBI seized during the arrest of a Brooklyn man.

These supplies were distributed to healthcare workers in New York and New Jersey, HHS said.

[...]

FBI agents, as part of the Justice Department's Covid-19 Hoarding and Price Gouging Task Force, seized the items, which in addition to the N95 masks also included: 598,000 medical-grade gloves, 130,000 surgical and other masks, surgical gowns, disinfectant towels, particulate filters, and bottles of hand sanitizer and spray disinfectants, the Justice Department and HHS said in a press release.
